I loved the film.

Forget about Quantum of Soulless and Bourne - this film reeks of Bond. It is the most stylish Bond film we have had since the 60s, full of that travelogue atmosphere that made the Connery films so special.

But this is coupled with a thoroughly modern style of fast cutting which makes the film move at a supreme pace, without ever being confusing. Forster has done a remarkable job with this, because he has managed to strip off all the fat, deliver a really lean film, but not at the expense of the little flourishes of character, atmosphere and style that go to make a great Bond film. The action is delivered in short intense blasts - think the train fight in FRWL - and never outstays its welcome as some of the early sequences in CR did.

Craig IS James Bond - there is no doubt of it. And he is no grim faced killing machine - this is a rounded performance of real style, power and class.

Run, don't walk, to see it!

I agree. Certainly not the action heavy and dialogue free film we were led to believe - I was anticipating something like the last half of DAD.

Although the editing of the action sequences was too choppy I had no problem with there brevity. Reminded me of the brief action sequences that peppered the Glen directed films rather than the bloated sequences from both the Brosnan era and the foot chase and airfield sequence from Casino Royale.

I'm not sure I agree that it's never confusing - I'll confess to being confused at some moments, and for viewers who haven't seen or have forgotten the precise plot of CR, some of it will certainly be a little hard to follow. But otherwise I completely agree with your review, avl, which was also short, sharp and very stylish! :(
