just saw it again

without a doubt, the best film since casino royale (obviously, heh). and holy :(, i dont know how anyone could say it lacks the bond feel - it has everything that made the classics great, along with brilliant inspiration from the novels (mathis' good/evil speech was ripped straight from the novel Casino Royale, if i remember right). There were stunning sets, a extremely bondian espionage scene at the opera (brings back fond memories of the living daylights and the spy who loved me). The settings were very well chosen, and the scenes at the port and at the party were very similar to scenes in Thunderball, but with their own modern edge to them.

bond also had some classic lines ("my friends call me dominic green" "...I'm sure they do."), which could have easily been written for Sean Connery. And the action sequences were incredible.

Watching the film a second time, there was a whole load more character development that I picked up on that I didn't before. Really memorable scenes for me include Bond and Mathis on the plane (and in that scene another use of the novels as a source - a drunken bond),
Spoiler
Also, the use of overcutting audio and the use of mute silence (like in The Dark Knight) worked very well to emphasize the feeling of some scenes. For example, when felix is talking to bond in the bar.

And the music throughout was easily David Arnold's best work yet. Not just on Bond, either.

Anyway. Enough. 8/10, and in my top 5 Bond films easily:

1. From Russia with Love
2. The Living Daylights
3. Quantum of Solace
4. On Her Majesty's Secret Service
5. For Your Eyes Only

Also, the film was beautiful. Something the bond films haven't seen since the Connery years. All the little touches were great, such as the text to introduce each area. Any other director would have used standard boring font at the bottom of the screen. Did Forster? No. He used really nice typography cleverly related to the setting, placed in the middle of the screen.

and I love little things like that, they really add to the film

Second? I have seen the film 3 times now :(

Anyway, it is really bad compared to earlier Bondfilms. I've a feeling your opinions will not last very long. Because, to rank this film in top 5 you have to be very forgiven. It's too rushed and confusing. Bond has been way better than this.

So you're saying you know my opinion better than I do?

Uh, yeah. Right.

Agreed with pretty much everything you've said. This is up there with YOLT as one of my favourites, I think, it just has everything that I want in a Bond film. This is in my Top Five for sure. Sexy girls, cool action sequences and some stunning locations - and an uber-cool James Bond.
