Bond to Blofeld "does the stroking of some pussy really compensate for having no hair?"

Blofeld to Bond: "Depends on whether the roadkill you've splotched on your scalp is cat fur..." :(

ROFL :)

Or for Craig in Quantum of Solace "does the fact you have blond hair compensate for having no pussy". :)

Oh dear Bondian. I like the Eastenders comparison. Craig could be Grant Mitchell. I think one of the things that has been jettisoned is the Clever/Entertaining scenes that were original and had the WOW factor for the audience, in favour of gritty action scenes. The CR parkour sequence was a return to the OTT action sequences Bond is known for, but alas no such sequence in QOS.

I must admit, I don't mind gritty. But I would like Bond to do something original and clever once in a while, rather than ramming a car off the road, or machine gunning a car.

I guess the gadgets are jettisoned also, Batman is now the guy with the toys delighting audiences, Bond can do without them.

I do think we will get some wow factor back in Bond 23. Qos was a gritty stripped down thriller, and I thought a pretty good one. Gotta admit though it can't touch CR/OHMSS/TSWLM for me. But didn't have an extreme reaction, I didn't hate it. Did you really hate it that much ?

I mean even some of the grittier earlier entries like FRWL and OHMSS had original and clever action and Bond doing some clever things in a certain style, and FRWL did have the gadget briefcase.

Hopefully they can combine it back with some of the entertainment and fresh ideas, Would that make you happier ?

Thanks for your reply, mate.

As with a lot of other members, I liked it more on my second viewing. However, the bad points for me still outweigh the better. I was hoping we'd get a tense thriller in the same kind of mould that made Casino Royale so good (with some flaws of course). But we got a toned down bland and grim rehash from previous movies and other action films.

Quantum of Solace is like a modern 360 degree u turn to the Connery movies. But this is not the fault of Forster as all new directors seem to want to make a Bond with all their favourite moments from past films. If Forster came back for Bond 23, we may get something more original. He's made his movie, and the next would have been thinking forward not back. This is why Campbell gave us something more unique as he was not thinking in the past (accept the novel of course). However. I'm sure the Producers insist that some reference points from the past should go here and there.

Removing all the usual "my name is Bond, James Bond" etc doesn't really bother me. Neither do the changes of having no 'Q' or 'Moneypenny' as it was becoming stale. So why remove all of these but still pull in stuff from previous movies? Why are we still hearing musical themes that were written by John Barry? There's so much that Arnold pinches from the past it's getting tiresome. Some of the action scenes (even when assisted by CGI) are laughable. If an actor is doing more than the Insurance Company should really let him, why is he busting bones when half of the action is edited so it looks like he's not actually doing it?

IMHO. EON have done it's best to make us believe we're witnessing a brand new way of doing Bond. It IS handled differently, but it's still 12 fresh eggs, 5-6 oz. of fresh butter and salt and pepper. :(

See where you are coming from :(

And I agree that some of the action scenes(Boat/car chases), because they are quick and snappy, don't give you the full benefit. Sometimes too frantic, too close. Some of my favourite Bond action scenes are where you can see the scope of the action, the PTS fight on the beach in OHMSS is quick and snappy, but you get to savour the uppercuts, bond chucking the guy in the net etc.
I have to say on the other hand the rooftop chase was better. I actually enjoyed that one. But I take your point that Craig is doing the stuff himself, but it may as well be a double some of the time.

That was bold about the Musical themes, but also see, the halfway house doesn't always work. Eon probably don't want to get rid of the "Bond Sound" Its must be difficult for them, which stuff do they keep from past movies, and which do they chuck(maybe to include or introduce later)

I for one, would never like to have the James Bond theme totally absent from the movie, its cinematic gold as far as theme tunes go for me. Having it play at the end of CR was a great move by them.

Ta, mate. :D

Exactly. There's a few quick edits scenes in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, and as you say, you can see what's going on. It also enhanced Bond's fighting skills (probably after his Ninja training in You Only Live Twice). :)

I have to say on the other hand the rooftop chase was better. I actually enjoyed that one. But I take your point that Craig is doing the stuff himself, but it may as well be a double some of the time.

I agree 100%. For me, it was the only scene where I felt some tension. Being 6'4'', I do not like heights (I know Richard Kiel would probably feel the same) and it WAS very well done. The quick edits made sense because of the close proximity both characters were facing. Nearly falling off of the roof and the tiles breaking and sliding off one would jerk around trying to not fall off. This scene gave us a 'hands-on' (or more appropriately a weak foothold) tense scene until the CGI kicked in, and the absurdities were back again. Poor Danny must have worked hard on those ropes, but we didn't really see him doing any "business". It was cut so fast, we couldn't see if it was really him or the stuntman.

That was bold about the Musical themes, but also see, the halfway house doesn't always work. Eon probably don't want to get rid of the "Bond Sound" Its must be difficult for them, which stuff do they keep from past movies, and which do they chuck(maybe to include or introduce later)

Yeah.

There's one music cue that haunts me (like the 'Back-Seat Driver from Tomorrow Never Dies. When Bond is on his way to the Quantum meeting at the Opera is very effective. Okay. It's Barryesque (hints of You Only Live Twice), but the high strings with the brass, strings and woodwind in the bass is very effective. IMHO, this is the best appropriate piece of underscoring that Arnold has done for Bond. Even when I type, it's haunting me right now. It lingers.

I for one, would never like to have the James Bond theme totally absent from the movie, its cinematic gold as far as theme tunes go for me. Having it play at the end of CR was a great move by them.

It played well in Casino Royale as like a reminder that this was a Bond film. But in Quantum of Solace it's all over the place, and when the gunbarrel kicks in, in comes more adsurdities. He walks far too fast almost as if he's in need of my Pierce Brosnan (because I'm worth it) pile cream. ;)

Just right click and download it, my friend. :)
