My theory is that they filmed two gunbarrel's...one for QOS, and one for his future films.
Yeah, probably.

2) A Tux
3) The Bond theme
4) Put the gunbarrel at the beginning, dots across the screen, Craig walks slowly, he turns and shoots, blood comes across the screen, and the white dot moves (like the Brosnan one)
5) Kleinman's Brosnan era
This should be how the next film should start (without the QoS style gunbarrel)

There wasn’t really anything deep or meaningful about the placement, I remember someone saying Forster did it just for the fun of it. Still, it was quite a buoyant way to end the film, and QoS will be remembered for this distinction.

Ok, so I actually found the Casino Royale gunbarrel to be "decent" since it's still in the beginning but blended into the story.
So, in QoS the the main theme is like CR with the musical theme and stuff, but the gunbarrel is actually at the end of the film after the last lines of the conversation between 007 and M "And Bond, I need you back" "....I never left."

Luckily we can get that "Bond on Set" page 3 gunbarrel BACK AT THE BEGINNING FOR GOD SAKE in Bond 23.

For Bond 23, Craig can moonwalk across the screen and shoot in his stride. He can then spin around and stand on his tip-toes. Freeze frame that image, then drop the blood.
And instead of the Bond theme they'll be playing Smooth Criminal.

Completely agreed.Gunbarrel should be in a lounge suit - not a dinner suit. I hope they don't return to that unfortunate trend. I was happy to see the lounge's return in QoS.

I quite agree with you guys. Bond 23 should be a tribute to the late King of Pop.
The movie should be called 'Moonwalker', the title song should be 'Smooth Criminal'.
Craig should, for the whole duration of the movie wear a white fedora and glove in one of his hands, and he should , from time to time, yell 'Heee!' , 'Sha-mou!' and what have you.
Also, Macaulau Culkin and Bubbles should play his sidekicks. The movie should be filled with tributes to the great King of Pop, Michael Jackson. The movie should be directed by John Hughes and Martin Scorsese and some music video directors that have directed videos for Jackson's songs. There should be black panther in the movie... Joe Pesci should also be in it. Janet Jackson should play Bond's love interest, La Toya should play the "other" Bond girl. The Jacksons / Jackson 5 should write all the music for the film. That is, when a Michael Jackson song isn't dominating the sountrack. The movie should end with 'Can You Feel It' and with McCartney's and Jackson's song 'The Girl Is Mine'.
The movie should last for 5 hours. Minimum.

I can see where they were coming from but still. I was at least hoping it would like Casino Royale right before the main title sequence

Didn't notice it at all. Indeed probably the least thing I would care about.

In the end, I'm just glad they had a gun barrel. I'm one of those guys who thinks every Bond film should have a gun barrel.
Oh, they have. All of them. Only some carry it concealed or leave it in the luggage because the weather doesn't call for a gun barrel.
Or was that a brolly?

I don't know why EON is reluctant to use such powerful and iconic entities like the theme and the gunbarrel opening sequence. They should feel blessed to have them! I'm sure a lot of producers and studios would be happy to take those two items off of EON's hands.
Not using them is like a football (soccer) team having David Beckham on their roster, but then never putting him on the field. It's silly not to use a winner when you are fortunate enough to have one.

Add me to the list of disappointed. Same with the lack of "The James Bond Theme".
There was the James Bond Theme. In several instances throughout the score (arguably David Arnold's finest today, though that's not saying much - I know).
Even then, I wish he'd do something to update the main rendition of it (in the end credits), without the same tired electronic beats.

Were you disappointed when there was no gun barrel at the beginning of Quantum?
But of course!
I told the cinema doorman: "Hey, I want to watch the Bond film, not the Bourne one"
Just kidding (with the second part, I mean)

Well, actually it's a new mission, unless, you consider DN, FRWL, TB, YOLT, OHMSS and DAF as one- very- long mission just because Bond is searching several operations of a same organization like SPECTRE, just like he's doing with Quantum here.opening was fine- don't think the gunbarrel would have made sense at the start of qos- its not a new mission- its a continuation of the last one- could have used the bond theme though since he "earnt" it in cr
