I agree that both Lazenby and Dalton were under-rated, but I feel this is largely due to the fact that neither were able to produce a strong Bond legacy. What can be said though is, that in my opinion, there has never been a truly bad choice made for a Bond actor. We can be happy with that.

I think he'll come close to previous bonds. Settle into the character, and i think that arc won't be a disappointment at all.

George Lazenby starred in what I consider to be one of the best Bond movies, ever. Timothy Dalton not only starred in what I consider to be another one of the best Bond movies (THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS), but also gave a performance that changed how secret agents would be portrayed not only in future espionage movies and TV series like the "BOURNE" films, "MI-5 (SPOOKS)" and "24", but how Bond would be portrayed in the early 21st century.

As far as I'm concerned, both Lazenby and Dalton produced strong Bond legacies.

I really like him. He has made that character his for this film. When I first saw his picture when he was announced, I was in disbelief. I thought he was a horrible miscast. To me, he resembled Necros (a villan in The Living Daylights).

But I am now looking forward to his second outing as Mr. Bond.

I'll get hammered for this. I think Craig plays Bond well, but when i look at him i have to keep telling myself he's Bond. I 've never had that feeling with any other. Moore was the first Bond i saw, so i've been through other changes.

I'm not sure about DC yet. His face suggests that Hoagy Carmichael quality Fleming described. But he was a little too thuggish. Fleming's Bond seemed to be one that could fit right into an embassy party, go outside and strangle someone, and then return to the party like nothing was amiss.

Additionally, Fleming's Bond seemed to have a little of the average Englishman having to do extraordinary things. No one yet has captured that quality.

Everyone has his or her own taste. After seeing Craig in the casino sequences, I feel that he would look right at home in an embassy party, as well on the street. I don't feel that a man has to look like he came straight from the cover of a GQ magazine, to look elegant.

Additionally, Fleming's Bond seemed to have a little of the average Englishman having to do extraordinary things. No one yet has captured that quality.

Since I'm not a big fan of Fleming's novels, this has never concerned me.

Also, why is Craig constantly being compared to Dalton, when he's much closer to early Connery? Surely I'm not the only person to think he's more like early Connery?

Craig is quite possibly one of the finest portrayers of James Bond to date. He doesn't really look the part, but he definitely plays it well. Not to downplay his acting skills, but I would think part of his success would have something to do with the amazing screenplay he got to work with.

That's a tough one. Craig is the best "actor" whose ever played Bond, but having grown up with Connery, who CREATED the screen role, he's still my fav in the first 4 films.

That said, Craig is amazing! After watching CR a couple more times, his subtle nuances and expressions really bring Bond to life like no other actor since Connery has. (Lazenby, Moore, Dalton and Brosnan "played" Bond, but Craig has "become" Bond).

To be honest, I'd pretty much written off the series before CR, it had been so worn-out for so long (even though I'd wait for each new film with anticipation -- and hope). After CR I'm "reborn" and can hardly wait for Bond 22.

As much as I'd love to say that Dalton changed the way secret agents were portrayed on the screen, big and small, I'd have to agree that Michael Caine got there first as Harry Palmer. But that protrayal was forgotten. Dalton opened that door again. And led us to DC. Thanks Tim, and thanks DC for a wonderful film!

I totally approve, but will definitely need more than one good film to appoint Mr. Craig to 'best-ever' status.

Having said that, if Bond 22/23 are as good or better than CR than he definitely has a shot at it.

Well said in every aspect. Bond 22 will be telling as to whether he carries the look better. But his acting was superb!

I knew Timothy Dalton. Timothy Dalton was a friend of mine. Daniel Craig - you're no Timothy Dalton.



But you've got time to come up to that level. Keep trying...

Timothy Dalton - you're no Daniel Craig. Don't get me wrong, i think that Dalton is way better than Brosnan (Soap opera Bond) ever was. Actually my two favorite Bonds are Dalton & Graig.

I always thought Sean Connery was over-rated and Lazenby and Dalton under-rated. Maybe its all to do with press and whether or not they like you. They were always great on Connery but so far have been evil towards Craig. As to whether or not Daniel Craig will be able to become the 'suave and sophisticated Bond' - hello, he is an actor!

Having seen all the Bond films numerous times, and having watched CR several times, I can honestly say that Daniel Craig is at least top two, and CR is my fav Bond film. Actually DC might become No. 1 depending on the next Bond film.

For me it's too early to say. As an action hero he is superb, but he isn't Bond yet. No double-entendres, no particular finesse with the ladies, no quips, no smug casual arrogance. Instead we have a rough, brutal, I would even say fascist hero. Little that indicates higher breeding let alone education. These are things that are aqcuired, not learned on the job, and I don't see how Craig's Bond will quickly master social graces, let alone the proper temperature for Japanese wine.

He was good in Casino Royale, but he needs to get a few more films under his belt and make the 007 role his before I make that kind of declaration.

In the overall, Mr Craig did an incredible job with his interpretation of the character, made it his way and brought the old spirit of past movies back. I hope he stays for a few more! Go Craig!

I dont think its too early to say if he's the best. Most movies are one time deals, the actor has only that one movie to show his stuff. You dont say "Brando was good in the Godfather, but I need to see him in another couple of Godfather movies before I can judge him".

Personally, I think he was very very good, and the best Bond apart from Connery in his first three films.
