Now that I've seen CR I think that Daniel Craig is one of the best James Bonds. He's very dark and gritty like the late, great Ian Fleming invisioned Bond. But I have to admit that when Craig was first cast as Bond I really disaproved of the idea of having a "blond" Bond but now I could really care less.

I think he's one of the best, but I'm not ready after seeing CR only two times to say he's the best ever. He's gonna need another film for that and a least a year to let Casino Royale settle in. So, I approve.

I approve, is he the best? one film is not enough to judge, but if his Bond films are like Casino Royale, then he will be the best.

Indeed. I've still only seen the film once, so I don't even feel I can judge his performance fairly. I did vote approve though, becuase I definately did like his performance while watching the film, and I doubt that impression will change.

His performance in Casino Royale makes him the best for me. With a few more films under his belt, he surely WILL be even better.

What Q said.
Not just the actor but the director and scripts and films.
Craig certainly benefitted from the best of those elements.

I'm not even going to lie. I think Daniel is THE BEST James Bond because he simply appeals to ME more so than the other blokes.

Other than mindless entertainment for when I'm in the mood, the other Bond movies barely impressed me. But CR with DC in it, it's not only the FIRST Bond movie I paid to see in the theater, but I went twice.

That's gotta say something about a)Daniel as Bond, :) and a great movie, period.

If there is a path to 'the Best', Craig is the first to be on it since Connery blazed it (and still collects tolls for using it).

I'll wait and see if he can stay the course.

"Best Bond Ever!" is a bit sensational considering the movie is less than a month old.

Still, I give a resounding "Approve".

the only fair way to determine craig's true place is to wait until his tenure as bond is over so he can be rated based on all of his films, not just his debut.

approve

just saw the movie tonite (ill rant on about what i liked/didnt in another thread) but i rather liked him. Sean IS Bond, nowon else will ever give the same performance as him, the other bonds just carry the character throughout the years, but Sean is Bond in my heart hehe.

One word i used throughout the movie to describe Craig's face would be 'expressionless'. but for some reason, i liked craig, something did it for me and i cant quite put my finger on it~ does anyone else think the same way? like theres something about daniel which makes me like him... maybe the director psychologically challenged my mind.. or maybe they put a lot of research into earlier bonds and put them all into daniel, but still, he has his own style which i like as well.

I can't say he's the best Bond ever - he's certainly the best actor to play the part though. It's a definite "Approve" vote.

I agree. Craig gets a big "Approve" from me.

But I'm not sure it's possible for Connery to knocked out of the Best Bond spot in my opinion.

Lacking a "Daniel Craig is the best James Bond ever." option, I opted for the "Daniel Craig is the best James Bond ever!" one. :)

Seriously, I didn't need more than one film from Lazenby to decide he was my third favorite, and if Connery or Dalton had only made one (their best), that would be enough for me to decide they were my favorites.

Similarly, Craig topped my list with just this one, so he has nowhere to go but up (or better said, solidify his greatness). I'm not one to count strikes against good actors for the occasional dud. The only thing I need the entirety of his tenure for is to rate it, not him.

I've always thought the perfect James Bond would be a mix of the best Connery and Dalton had to offer (even before I had seen their films), and to that extent, Craig delivered, and then some by making such qualities his own despite their echoes of his predecessors in question.

So yes, best ever, until someone even better comes along. :P

I completely agree with your theory, but I think Craig's situation is a bit different from the situation of Laz, or a single Connery or a single Dalton as you describe above. The reason I have to 'wait and see' before crowning Craig, is that, at this point, I don't see the suave and sophistication in Craig. And of course this is because his Bond hasn't been there yet. Unlike ANY of the other Bonds, this guy is a work in progress. To rate him with the others, he'll have to get there first.

But of course there are things present in Craig's performance that we CAN use to judge him against other Bonds, and I will agree that in these he excels.
In terms of raw power, I think Craig is king.
In terms of emotion, Craig blows all out of the water.
However, in terms of screen presence, magnetism, wit and humor, I have to still give the nod to Connery. If Craig's later Bonds can match Connery in these departments, I'll give him the crown.

Won't be easy though.

Connery's performance in FRWL is my fav but DC's CR performance is a close 2nd, if he keeps up this standard, I think he's more than capable of topping SC.

DC adds depth, SC's Bond never demanded this attribute, these days I am more in favour of DC's style to SC's but his performance will have to be exceptional to top Sean's FRWL performance, although I believe Craig is capable of this but as a whole CR is my fav Bond film period.

Fair point, yet...I still find Craig's not-quite-yet-Bond ironically more like Bond than the supposedly already-there Bonds of most of the movies.

Ah, that explains our disagreement. I think Craig edged out Connery (my previous favorite in this regard) in terms of the wit and humor, and matched him for screen presence and magnetism by bringing that realistic and intense Dalton-esque element to the brutality Connery epitomized. Connery still does some things better and more Bondian, just not enough. :) Still, my top three of Craig, Dalton, and Connery is very, very tight.

I felt exactly the same way, until I revisited YOLT a few days ago. Sir Sean couldn't have been more disinterested, as if he were doing a bad Robert Mitchum imitation.

Sean Connery will be #1, for a variety of reasons, unless/until Daniel Craig does two or three more films in the same fashion as he was in CR.
