He said no/probably not in every different interview (whether in magazine or elsewhere) I've read where he was asked the question.

in a tv interview for Finland's YLE station (there was quite a lengthy sitdown interview)he said:

"well, never say never... again! After Goldeneye I said I'd never do another Bond... and look at me now. So you never can really say."

that was almost exactly what he said.

I'd like to see Ken Russell or Michael Winner direct. Or perhaps Andrei Konchalovsky, director of Tango & Cash.

Ah, yes. I forgot about that one.

I'll be thrilled it he returns.

I hope very much that he returns just becasue of the fact that he has reinvented the franchise twice and has made two of my favorite Bond movies of the last 20 years. Also he would also do a better job of keeping Bond more "real" than some new director who might try and make the films more campier like the later Moore Bonds.

I'd imagine that Campbell might rethink his stated aversion to doing another Bond film. His stock has never been higher, and that's all down to the wide acclaim for CR. I'd welcome him back.

But I would be even more excited for Christopher Nolan.

Paul Greengrass would do right by Bond, but he's done Bourne so he's out of contention. :)

I like Matthew Vaughn, but I feel he's perhaps a better producer than director. Layer Cake was good, but Craig and the other actors were the bright spots in that film. A decent enough story, interesting locations, excellent photography, but it didn't all add up to greatness. Its potential was not realised, and I fault Vaughn for that. Just my opinion.

Martin Campbell was one of the [many] things that impressed me about Casino Royale. Before this film I would have thought of him as no more than your average run of the mill director. Because, let's be honest. Yes, Goldeneye was a good film, and yeah, Mask of Zorro was fun. But other than, what do we have? Legend of Zorro (...), Vertical Limit (I'm going to leave that one alone...damn) and a few other films.

But CR really showed me a differnt Campbell, and I do hope he (and EON) will reconsider and that he will become director of Bond 22. It always bothered me how EON was switching directors around with Brosnan. Let Campbell have a few films, just like John Glen and a few others have had.

I was also going to suggest Matthew Vaughn, who Bon-San mentioned up there. I think early on he was rumored to direct CR, I think, right? I think he's a talented person, although he hasn't made many films. (I look forward to seeing "Stardust" next year.) He's already worked with Craig, so that's a plus. Although I was also intrested when it was mentioned that Roger Michell might direct Bond 22.

I would much rather see Martin Campbell return for Bond 22 than see Matthew Vaughn get the job. I thought that Layer Cake, as a whole, wasn't that great of a movie, was extremely mediocre at best. Campbell has just given us one of the best Bond movies in a long time, one of, if not the, most critically acclaimed Bond movies ever, and I think that EON needs to do everything it can to lure him back for the next installment.

LAYER CAKE's flaws were in its screenplay, not the direction. I don't fault Vaughn for that; his direction was stellar, IMO, and it oozed style (in fact, CASINO ROYALE shares many visual cues with it). For a starting film, it showed a vast amount of potential, and Vaughn's new film, STARDUST, is also getting great advance word-of-mouth.

Now, don't get me wrong, I'd have Campbell back in a heartbeat, if only to establish some real continuity between films. But since it's exceedingly unlikely he's returning, Vaughn is my other choice.

Yeah, in the early stages Craig and Vaughn met with EON together. During the casting rumor days, Vaughn said "I think they liked him better than me" about the meeting. He really wanted the job, and thinks he "would've nailed Bond".

He'd bring a consistency to the film, something a true sequel needs. However, there's no guarantee he'd knock one out of the park again.

And he's had a very spotty filmmaking record thus far. CASINO ROYALE is the best thing Campbell's done, but it's yet to see whether that was indicative of great things to come from Campbell, or rather just a hiccup in his otherwise mediocre career.

I wouldn't care either way if he did them all, but for the second one he definitely needs to because, the two most successful Bonds' first two were guided and groomed by the same directors. Connery's firt two were by Young and Moore's first two were by Hamilton. hint hint

So funny. If this thread had started a year ago, the Campbell haters would have been in the majority. In a way, it was like Campbell-not-Bond-director.com...

Do I want him back? Yes and no. Yes, because he did an outstanding job with GE and CR. No, because he can only lose with Bond 22 because CR turned out so well - and lots of people will say: Well, it

I fear that whatever happens, wether Campbell directs or not, Bond 22 will be a dissapointment. Not because it's gonna be a bad movie, but because CR is such a very tough act to follow. Having said that, I wouldn't mind Campbell to return (the constant changing of directors didn't do the Brosnan era any good). Let's not forget: Campbell needs Bond more than Bond needs Campbell. He hasn't had any successes since the Mask of Zorro, so with CR putting him back on the map, risking it all again on something brave but risky like Beyond Borders wouldn't be his best move.

With GoldenEye and Casino Royale on his resume--two Bond films I really enjoy and two that are big hits--the choice of having Campbell return for Bond 22 is easy for me. I say yes, yes, yes!

It depends. I'm more concerned that a good script is written for Bond 22 than whether Campbell returns or not. I like Casino Royale but I'm not as fond of GoldenEye so I pick option #3. As long as the script works well and the director they hire is competent(whether he's Campbell or not), I'll be happy.

They need to do whatever it takes to bring Campbell back. Obviously, he was born to direct James Bond movies and if they don't lure him back, we'll be back to TND-qualify dreck. The best Bond films of the past 20 years were Campbell-directed. They should pay him what he wants.

I voted 'yes'.

The possibility of the Craig trilogy (3 movie deal) all being directed by Campbell would make for a franchise event our grandchildren will be talking about.

Talk about continuity. It's a dream, I know.

I would like to see him top a few subsequent films like John Glen did back in the 1980's.

I for one, think that would be stellar.
