I mean, The Omen coming out on 6.6.6 - who really gives a s--t? Empire called it a release date in search of a movie, and that's the sort of cuteness a series can do without.

Well, I hope they don't chase the 2007 date.

Who said anything about chasing? They have been working on Bond 22 for over eight months now at least and we are less than half way through 2006. They are well ahead of the schedule they had for CASINO ROYALE.
Besides, it's pretty silly to think the 2007 date is the ONLY reason why they want to release a new Bond movie next year.

Well, I hope they don't rush it either, but they have been working on the script for quite some time like you said. I just hope it's good. I can totally understand Simon here, but at the same time they took 3 years with Die Another Day and most fans tend to say it was one of the worse (including myself).
While I think it's doable, I think 2007 is really the only reason why they want to release a new Bond movie next year. Otherwise they'd take a regular 2 or 3 year gap. MGM was insistent on a 3 year gap after Die Another Day claiming they would take 3 years so as to "not rush and screw up the franchise" or something along those lines. I think since Bond 21 was originally slated for 2005, one could reasonably assume that Bond 22 was being written around the start of 2005 or had been started or whatever especially since it's connected to CR (i.e., probably been in the works for much longer than 8 months) - just a theory though.

I don't doubt this is how casual fans view Bond.

2008 - The centerian birth of Fleming. Perhaps they'll have another Bond film, perhaps Craig's last
I think CR is going to be a begining of a trilogy that will tell people the side to Bond we have never seen. I personally think that Craig and the CR and seqeual(s) is going to be an experiment for the Bond franchise.
Then after three Bond films with Criag it will go back to the original formula

well according to the BBC Craig is contracted until 2012 so...IMHO i think it would be silly not having a Bond film in 2007. I'am sure EON know what number next year ends in and it will be great to see it being taken advantage off.

Doubtful, the general movie-going audience couldn't care less about Ian Fleming.

Unfortunate but true...Anyway I don't care what year they make the film in, just as long as they make it good.

Well it made $12 million on that date and it got a ton of free publicity.
While I agree that bending over backwards and relaxing standards and rushing a Bond film for 2007 would not be wise - they would be absolute idiots if they didn't come out with a lot of products, retrospectives, and other media celebrating Bond during that year, and if they can come out with a film in time then they should.
I've had multiple people with very little interest in Bond ask me what they have planned for 2007 - it's too good an opportunity to pass up.

Agreed. But let's not forget that they are not rushing it, they were working on the script months ago and are well ahead of the schedule they had for CASINO ROYALE.

And yes, Victor Tourjansky was apparently insane with rage that he was never offered the chance to gawp at his wine bottle while watching a clown dismantle an atomic bomb in Octopussy.....

Who did Victor Tourjansky play?
Victor Tourjansky is the guy who had cameos in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME (looks at his bottle as the Lotus exits the water), in MOONRAKER (looks at his bottle as the gondola becomes a hovercraft) and in FOR YOUR EYES ONLYT (stands up as Bond ski's off the table.

I think we'll see a November 16th or 23rd release date for 'Bond 22' in 2007 in the United States.
Yeah, I would expect another November release if Bond 22 really did come out in 2007.

Bond 22: 2007
Bond 23: 2009 winter
Bond 24: 2011 summer

We will all see.
