Don't bother with 'The Jacket'. DC is fine but the film itself is such appalling crud to waste two hours for.

Really? I love it.

Ya me too!

And aside from ROAD TO PERDITION (which I don’t even remember) I haven’t seen Craig in anything else.

Not a very impressive list, I’m afraid.

Anybody watched Renaissance?

Amazing movie, kind of animation movie in black and white! Just great.

And DC is the voice of Barthélémy Karas, a worn-out police officer !

I really wish I could see "Archangel" but I'd say overhere in the U.S the chances of that are slim to none.

Archangel is available in Region 1 format from Amazon.com (just checked, they have it in stock)

I saw it last week, Daniel Craig is as good as usual (does this guy ever give a bad performance?), the story is quite good too. An interesting historical "what if" story set in Russia.

If anyone gets Love is the Devil and doesn't know the story, be prepared for a bit of a shock in that it is the kind of role he does not often get to play anymore. He plays the lover of gay artist Sir Francis Bacon. It shows what an "actor's actor" he really is. I saw it in the late 90s and will never forget it. Derek Jacobi as Bacon is also totally awesome. Not a comfortable film, but a very very good one.

Layer Cake is awesome - and if you don't like the ending, make sure you get the two disc set because there is an alternative ending on the features disc. Sony wanted one ending, the director wanted another. The director got his way, so the ending Sony originally wanted was put onto the disc.

Munich is also very good. I was unsure whether I could bear to watch it, but Spielberg does it very well. Daniel Craig does a great South African accent in it. His first decent sized role was in The Power of One where he also plays a South African. He looks soooo young, but its obvious even then what a talent he is.

Some Voices is awesome. Again it shows a talent that takes the viewer's feet out from under them.

I only ever knew him in his art-house kind of roles, so seeing him in Bond was a bit of a culture shock!! :( But, oh boy, I think he is perfect for Bond. :)

Layer Cake is one of my favourite films. I love it.

I've heard Enduring Love is pretty bad though. Can someone give me a rough idea of what it's about?

With Elizabeth, I was far too distracted with bad history to actually watch who was in it. I seem to remember Geoffry Rush though?

That's my second favorite non-Bond Daniel Craig movie after The Jacket and before Layer Cake.

It sounds like a chick flick but it's not. It's basically about a stalker who stalks a professor (Craig) and :(s up his life. It's a great film directed by Roger Michell, a guy who turned down Quantum of Solace.

Right. On that basis, I'll see about renting it. I did dismiss it as sounding like a chick flick, so as long as it's not, should be good.

Casino Royale: Collector's Edition

Enduring Love
Road To Perdition

Just got Flashbacks of a Fool today, haven't watched it yet. My sister isn't into Craig films especially non-Bonds with the slightest chance of male nudity (she's rather old fashioned that way. Hasn't quite forgiven me for Viggo in Eastern Promises. :( ) so I watch them when she's gone. I'm a huge Bowie/Roxy fan so I'm interested in the music they use in the Flashback.

As I can find them I'd like to get Love is The Devil both as a fan of Craig and Jacobi and also as an artist, Bacon's art fascinates me, it's repulsive yet intriguing like Lucien Freud's stuff. But anyway I'd also like to get my hands on Love and Rage. Munich, I can pick up for a song, I just haven't yet. Tomb Raider I watch on cable, not sure I want to pay money for anything with Angelina Jolie. I do want Sharpe's Eagle I think that's the one he's in. Watched all of the Sharpe's with my dad, back when they ran on A&E, so I enjoy the series and the novels.

Any others worth picking up?

I can recommend The Ice House. 1997, BBC drama. DC plays D.S. Andy McLoughlin, a decent cop with a bit of an alcohol problem, trying to find his way through a typical Minette Walters plot of subtefuge and murder. Available on good old Amazon in both USA and UK.

I won't say any more because it will spoil it for you, but watch closely the scenes between him and Kitty Aldridge (they are both on screen for most of the 171 minutes of it). The journey the two of them take from mistrust and hate to the final resolution is excellent. Looking how he is in QoS, and thinking back to this, no-one does "repressed rage" quite like him!

Love is the Devil is not a comfortable movie, but then again, it's not meant to be. If you also like Derek Jacobi (me too :( ) then its a double bonus. One thing I would caution, if you have youngsters and they know how to load your DVD player, then keep this one out of their reach in case they put it on accidentally. It really is not suitable in any section of it for young uns. It is very sexually explicit.

Munich was good and I can recommend spending money on that. Because Eric Banna is the lead, it is sometimes easy to overlook DC, but his character Steve has a very definite journey which leaves him an older, but I did wonder how much wiser, man.

I agree with you about Tomb Raider. Like Invasion, I think it's what happens when he gets caught up in a role that clips his acting wings. I didn't think there was enough meat on the bone of the characters he plays in either movie for him to make anything decent out them. Even though he is still more watchable than many actors, he sleepwalks through both of them imo.

Thanks! I have something new to look for! ;)

No kids for me, unless you count the furry four legged kind! :( Now a religious not so keen on 'man can' (and all the areas adjoining said can.) sister in the house, well that's another story! There are dvds (like Bond films, Withnail and I or Renaissance.) I watch with her and ones I watch(Eastern Promises, Layer Cake, Sylvia) when she's not home. Love is The Devil will be one of those! My best friend saw a pic from the movie of Craig and Jacobi laying in bed and he said "Wow, that is acting!", that's a movie I'm sure he won't borrow from me, like he does my other Craig dvds. :) Well who knows, he's man enough to love Rocky Horror and Velvet Goldmine. . :D

Munich, I think I will snag in the near future, they have a bunch of used copies at my local dvd/cd shop.

Yeah TR, Invasion, and Golden Compass, either not enough DC screen time ( GC was a disappointment on that one.) or don't like the lead gal like Tomb Raider. Danny boy in the shower isn't enough to make me spend the five bucks I could get it for. :) :)

I'd totally forgetten about Golden Compass! I'd certainly put it with Invasion and Tomb Raider, not meaty enough roles and, as you say, not enough screen time.

I can't wait for the beginning of January for the general release of Defiance. That one looks like it will have everything going for it in large measures.

I just posted a link on the Defiance thread of a really nice interview with DC.

Defiance yep can't wait! I get to see it the day after my 33rd birthday! Happy birthday to me!

I just finished watching Flashbacks, absolutely loved it. :) :( Sure Craig isn't in there a lot but he doesn't need to carry the film, it's just that good. And when he's on screen he's fantastic. BTW casting props on the kid playing Craig's younger self. :)

done, but this list is not complete. One of his best The Ice-house is missing and Kiss & Tell is missing too. Both are really good murder mysteries.
And of course Flashbacks is missing, it hasn't been out back then :(

As others are coming out the closet and admitting to their Daniel Craig DVD library, I will 'fess up to mine :(

The only ones in the list that I bought and was disappointed with were Invasion and Tomb Raider - he sleep-walked his way through them both. Not enough meat on the bones of either character for him to get his acting chops into. Also, as I agreed with ImTheMoneyPenny, he was not on-screen enough in Golden Compass.

If I had to take 5 DVDs (sorry, can't make do with less than 5!) to a desert island, I would take: Ice House, The Trench, Sword of Honour, Love is the Devil and Archangel.

That will change when Quantum of Solace is released. I'll drop Archangel for QoS.

Casino Royale
Golden Compass
Invasion
Infamous
Munich
Archangel
The Jacket
Ice-House
Our Friends in the North
Layer Cake
Enduring Love
Sylvia
Some Voices
Sword of Honour
The Mother
Copenhagen
Road to Perdition
Tomb Raider
Love is the Devil
The Trench
Elizabeth R
Obsession
Love and Rage
The Hunger
Moll Flanders
The Power of One

Could I ask.....what's the difference between the 2 Disc Collectors Edition and the 3 Disc Deluxe Edition??

I've seen the new 3 disc one and I'm tempted, but wondered if the 3rd disc had anything on it that justified, basically, buying the film again?

Did you think it a good purchase??

Really recommend Our friends and Some Voices, Love and Rage and Renaissanse. Actually love almost all the movies Ive seen with Dan. Agree about Invasion Compass and Tomb Raider but still watch them rarely.
