The BBC's high cultural review show 'Newsnight Review' reviewed SilverFin last night and although they're a hard bunch to please (they generally look at important films and plays) they gave it a big thumbs-up, saying it is very well written and an extremely effective thriller!

Watch the review online (also includes a quick interview with Higson, some excerpts plus some moving graphics- electronic press kit?) at http://news.bbc.co.u...iew/4297617.stm
Click on the video button on the right of the page.

The SilverFin part starts at about 25 minutes in.

Looks like Blue Peter will be featuring it in their Book club feature too: http://www.bbc.co.uk...wbookclub.shtml

There's a little item in the Times from last week: http://www.timesonli...1491808,00.html

I saw this. One thought: just one show, but still, continuations haven't had that kind of *critical* recognition since LICENCE RENEWED. Ian Hislop would never have read the Gardner or Bensons, and I suspect would have sniffed at them. But he as much as said he'd be interested in doing Higson's job. If an adult continuation series comes up, could be easier to attract names like that. Even if it's not a success with kids - which it may still be - it looks like it will restore a lot of critical credibility to IFP.

Incidentally, there is a travel piece by Charlie Higson in today's Daily Mail in the UK called 'A View to A Thrill'. He visits Glencoe, etc., and locations from SilverFin.

Well, everybody's been saying the Bond novels need publicity and a good writer and it looks like they've got them (although you've still got to explain yourself for reading the Mail!).

They are the sort of papers Bond and Ian Fleming would have read mind you.

Well, that's no reason to read them! Bond thought homosexuals can't whistle and Fleming had even worse opinions! Anyhow- let's not talk about how dangerously reactionary the Mail is, but concentrate on SilverFin.
