I can imagine Valentine is a bit like Tony Soprano. If you know the Soprano's you'd know what I mean.

That's right Dave. I saw GE again the other day and Coltrane is completely diferent than what he is in TWINE. His sequence is the best scene in GE.Dave (11 Jun, 2001 10:01 p.m.):
If you had no knowledge of Zukovsky previously beig a KGB agent, would you have guessed it. No !...

Is there really any difference between the two occupations in the former Soviet Union ?...I think not (Zukovsky's words in GE)...let's face the fact...the scriptwriters and Coltrane got the character wrong in TWINE (though I still like both incarnations anyway).Digitarius (11 Jun, 2001 01:12 p.m.):
Well, he has turned from Bond's enemy in GoldenEye to Bond's ally in The World Is Not Enough. The transition in character can be partly due to his change in occupation, from Russian mafia boss to Azerbaijani casino owner.

Plus he has also moved on into more fields of business. He wasn't a full gangster. He was a gangster with real business fronting his illegal activity. After all, who got Elektra the submarine in TWINE? Zukovsky did!

In GE, he was the out-and-out gangster, and he acted ruthless, not caring what people think about him.
In TWINE, he has a legitimate business and thence cannot be the nastiest Russian in the land, thence a different portrayal. He was very funny, though, in both cases.

IN any fact, it's weird how he would want to own a casino. With all the enemies he's made, I'd have thought it to be a bit life threatening towards him.
