[CENTER] "'SilverFin' 2005 Promotion Preview" Young Bond #2Posted 12 December 2004 - 01:16 AM
Interesting that they're already planning a second book even before the first one is released. Not sure that's the best route to go, saturation doesn't always equal success.

It's nice to know that GoldTail will be released in November 2005. I don't think I'll be able to wait until April for SilverFin.

hopefully they'll go through the five books in no time at all.....
......then we can get back to real Bond books... #5Posted 12 December 2004 - 01:40 AM
Hopefully the series is very popular therefore creating a new generation of Bond fans. I also hope it pushes Harry Pothead away from the spotlight.

Still not too excited about the idea, but I agree with Righty, if it gets a new generation into Bond, then I don't think it's a bad thing.

I am still waiting for the punchline to all of this....
Mr. Benson, no more Bond. We want to go in a different direction.....by writing for the kiddies! Mr. Brosnan? No more Bond. We want to bring in the Orlando Blooms. #8Posted 12 December 2004 - 03:10 AM
Whatever, it's something new that's Bond to read.
Not gonna been too keen on shopping in the Kiddies section of Barnes and Noble to pick it up though. #9Posted 12 December 2004 - 03:14 AM
I cannot wait to read this, and I'm glad to see that it will be a longer read as well. Very cool.

Silverfin?, GoldTail?. This guy's got a fish fetish!!!.
#13Posted 15 December 2004 - 08:16 PM
Sounds just fine to me!
Very glad to hear both of those points as well. I eagerly await this one! #14Posted 15 December 2004 - 08:39 PM
Sounds as though he means business with this project - all fears of a James Bond Jnr have been removed.
However, I now find myself yearning for a piece similar to that of Jim's efforts when this was first announced. I'm very difficult to please you must understand... #16Posted 15 December 2004 - 09:08 PM
Everything I hear makes it sound like they are doing this idea right. The question is, though, is this the right idea?

Just another sign that says the franchise is finished.

I'm really looking forward to this novel. Unlike most of you, I'm happy that we're getting anything at all and don't immediately whinge about things before they're even out yet.

I wouldn't say that, he seems to be taking this very seriously. The update here seems to show that:

"If you could write some good books for kids, they would then want to progress to the adult books"
good. I hope this happens sooner rather than later.... #21Posted 15 December 2004 - 10:42 PM
I merged two SilverFin threads.
#23Posted 16 December 2004 - 01:25 AM Them's fightin' words! It DOES sound like Mr. Higson is doing this right, but like others have said, is this the right idea? I didn't think they'd make Bond a teen when I heard this, I thought we'd get a 22 year old or something. You could argue that that would basically be adult Bond, but I don't think so. By making him that young we can see how he develops into the man he becomes, just as Mr. Higson seems to be doing with Silverfin. It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if I want to read about a 13 year old James Bond. I can think up a million cliches for this, but I want to stay away from them because the author seems to be serious about doing this right. #24Posted 16 December 2004 - 03:37 PM
I grew up on the Enid Blyton books so it sounds as if Higson is writing one of those "....of Adventure" series books.
I'm looking forward to this getting on the bookshleves though - for the curiosity factor more than anything else. #25Posted 16 December 2004 - 05:29 PM
I wish they were doing a series like they did with Indiana Jones a while back, with the 10-15 yr period before Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. You saw how he became the man he was. They also picked up on him in his 20s, which I wish they were doing with Bond. The books by Max Mccoy, Rob McHregor, and others, are kinda hard to find now.
