The cheapest Colonel SUn book I can find is $25 used. Is it worth it? (not from a collection standpoint but from a reading standpoint)
If you could find a cheaper one, let me know.

$25 seems high. You should be able to find a cheaper one on Bookfinder.

You can easily find paperbacks for $2 or $3 often on eBay. I eouldn't pay $25 if it was just some paperback edition or so. Keep looking.

Thanks guys I haven't looked in the last month so I'll start to again. How does Amis compare to Fleming and Benson?

It's all about personal choice. Nothing anyone will say will be 100% what you think of comparing the authors.
Personally, I find all of them to be good authors. Many fans say Amis' one book is the best continuation novel after Fleming.

How does Amis compare to Fleming and Benson?
"Colonel Sun" was the book that got me into the literary Bond a couple of years ago. As a writer, Amis is better than both Benson and Fleming. As a Bond novelist, he's right up there with Fleming, and leagues ahead of Benson and Gardner. IMO.
Just like ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE in the film series, "Colonel Sun" may be what you might call the one-off oddity, largely shunned by the public, that may actually be the best of the whole bunch.
But as Qwerty points out, it's all down to personal taste. Me, I love "Colonel Sun" - you, you may not.

[mra]I just checked eBay and there are some of the British paperback going for as cheap as $1.57US. Granted these would be coming from the UK, but my experience with buying from Great Britain has been that it is just as easy and cheap and almost as quick to send paperbacks from the UK as it is from the US. In fact, it

And if you're into collecting first editions, you can often find the UK or US original hardback on there for often around $20.

Thanks a lot After I get a good way through the Fleming novels I'll order it. I especially like Loomis' analogy to OHMSS of the movies.

I believe there is one copy on eBay for something like $1 now. Just note shipping and all the other regular stuff.

Look for it at used bookstores, garage sales, or swap meets and you are bound to find a copy. I paid 30 cents for my copy at Half-Price Books. It was in very good condition.
