Saw this over at the newsgroups.

According to THIS interview in The Independent, Anthony Horowitz, author of the Alex Rider books, was originally offered the 'Young Bond' series:

"My boys are invaluable to me in getting the details right in the books - Alex Rider is a junior 007. In all modesty, I can say I'd done it all before Charlie Higson committed to the new James Bond Junior series, which was offered to me."...

That's interesting. I noticed a couple of Horowitz' books when I was browsing the other day. I was tempted to have a look but then decided against it for some reason.
