I've found this to be a very interesting game of cat and mouse. Look at it this way.
Rumours move around saying Brosnan will retire from the role at the end of Bond 20.
So: More people go to see Bond 20 because it's his last, box office dollars go up.
And: When the Box Office Dollars go up Brosnan can demand more money. Much the same way that Moore did with FYEO!
It's only a theory. Feel free to blast it to bits!

Despite what everyone says, I believe he will.
I can show you a stack of fanzines from 1977 that state with certainty that THE SPY WHO LOVED ME will be Roger Moore's last Bond film. I believe we're in the exactly the same cycle.
