Finally, a big-time Bond exhibition I can go to. I've never been able to do the cruises or other conventions, but I live close enough that I WILL be at this one.

It looks similar to the one that was in London recently.

There's a link on the museum web site which shows dates and times from 2002 in the UK. The museum web site says it's an "international" traveling exhibition.

Has anyone checked it out yet? How long does it take to go through the exhibits? I would assume they would have a Bond Shop stocked full of toys and stuff?

I just got back from Michigan yesterday night. I was supposed to visit the exhibit on July 28th but the plans changed and now I have to wait until later this year to visit it.

Well, I went there on Friday and I must say that it was Spytacular as the poster reads.

As you first enter the James Bond part of the museum they have the DAD cars out side. I got to see the Aston Martin, Jag, and Thunderbird. The AM had the Target Seeking Shotguns out, and the missles and machine gun under the grill out. Plus, it was missing the passanger seat. The Jag had the Gatling gun out and the missles in the front grill.

Wow! And I hadn't even got into the museum yet.

You first start off walking through the gun barrel and you find your self in the music room which show's how all the titles were made. They have the see through Walther that Klienman used in TND titles. Now, you get to pick what level of agent you are. Basically easy medium or hard. You get a key card that allows you to access all the computers and answer trivia questions.

I had the chance to sit in M's office and pick up the red scrambler and call in Miss Moneypenny. She never came though! Then you enter the Q branch section where there are many different props and drawings. Notably, the Croc sub and Acrostar jet.

Then, you enter a Scaramanga fun house type place and get to see, Jaws teeth, the golden gun (i looks amazing), both of klebbs shoes, and Oddjob's hat. (i thought that was sold at auction)

Now, we enter into the women's department. They have solitare's dress, Wai Lin brown cat suit (that makes me wonder, was it not black in the film?) and Electra's beautiful casino dress. All with shoes no less. Another cool thing is that they had a normal still photo of Denise Richards trying on her blue dress in a hotel room.

Moving on there are more props like Zorins Blimp, Neptune. All miniatures. They you can pretend your Zorin and fall off the Golden Gate Bridge in a gree screen room. Quite cool!

More props and drawings take up the rest of the space. One thing that was interesting is that there was suspose to be an battle in the air from a helicopter, (presumably tiger) and a jet, in Goldeneye. Syd Cain had the drawings.

Then they had the menu from Cafe Martinque, Fabergee egg, gold bars, tomorrow news paper and more.

The final room has many posters from all over the world.
And the Peice de resistance is the Dom Perignon 55' from Dr. NO, sitting in a glace case. I perfer the 93" myself (the only one i've ever had)

So that's all except the spy store. It's got some cool stuff like corgi cars, books like the legacy and some new Fleming paper backs. And just some more 40th aniversity little stuff. Like pens pencils shot glasses. And of course it has all the Bond 1:18th bond cars. Tons of Thunderbirds left but hardly any AM or Jags. I wonder why? :cool:

So.. if you get a chance. Go! It takes the normal fan about an hour. Real Bond fans can be there all day.

No... there weren't any brochures. But you get to keep your 007 key card.

I may just make it up there myself before Jan. 5 when I go back to work. I've been saying it since last summer, but I've got the time now.

I just back from there on 12/27. It was fun but I thought there was too many story boards and not enough cool stuff. I took many pictures and I spent $50.00 in the gift shop.

I made it up there on Friday and I've got to say it was probably the best chance a Bond fan on this side of the Atlantic will probably ever have to be in touch with that much archival stuff from the series. Usually, things like that go to places like New York, L.A. or Washington. To have an exhibit like that within driving distance for me was a great thing.

I'm sorry you weren't as enthusiastic, Righty. True, there weren't as many props as I'd have liked either, but but just being around what was there was great. Where else could you see yourself hanging from the Golden Gate Bridge on video or sit in M's office? And remember there have been so many props that have been lost or sold over the years. To see the Dr. No. bottle of champaign, one of only two existing props to survive from the film, was worth the price of admission itself.

If anything, this visit really made me appreciate just how much really goes into making a film of this magnitude. It's still hard to swallow the three-year thing, but just looking at the detail that went into designing the props and storyboarding the scenes makes you realize it's not just a matter of going out and making a film of that magnitude. And seeing the unsused poster artwork in person was also a great find.

I bought a few things, but the gift shop was way overpriced. I mean $6.95 for a Jonny Lightning car that normally retails for $3.99? I wish there'd been something truly unique there. But that's what eBay is for, I guess.

Anybody who still wants to see this exhibition can do so through Sunday. I'd highly recommend it.
