Great news, though you absolutely could have put this in the Skyfall forum. Still, absolutely remarkable that the 23rd sequel is the franchise's most successful entry. Says a lot about the talent of the producers and the unrelenting vitality of their main character.

The news doesn't just concern Skyfall. Perhaps I should have put it in "General Film Discussion" though... I think it's pretty big news.

And now begins the grand 2 year reign of Skyfall.

Yeah, it may even pass The Dark Knight Rises to become the number 2 film gross from 2012!  Way to go, Bond!

I think The Hobbit will have the number two spot when all is said and done.

True, I was thinking that too when I saw the grosses.  Finally saw Hobbit last Thursday.

Good job 'Thunderball', you held the top spot well and now it's Craig's time to shine with a fantastic and mind-blowing acheivement!

The problem of such information is for me that this news doesn't contain the production costs and marketing costs between both movies. The net income adjusted for inflation between the different Bond movies is the true parameter which film of the Bond franchise is the most commercially succesfull.

Net income isn't the same as profit, surely? And profit wouldn't contain the costs.

Except Skyfall has not yet finished its initial run and Thunderball's figures include theatrical re-releases, something that does not happen much anymore since home video.
