A big day for the hopeful nominees, for the 85th Annual Academy Awards nominations are announced today!

But also a big day for Bond fans who are praying that this could be the year 'Skyfall' is included in those nominations and, dare we dream, for Best Picture?

Via comingsoon.net I found a link to watch the nominations announced live at 8:30 a.m. ET

/5:30 a.m. PT / 1.30pm GMT.

Fingers crossed...and I'll join you for the debate as they arrive...!

Normally a day for Bond fans to gloss over, or at least it has been for the past 31 years, so the very fact that we have an active interest is testament to the quality of SKYFALL! For those in the UK, the major nominations will also be revealed live on Sky News and the BBC News Channel from 13:30 GMT.

Thanks Vauxhall - any bets what the big nominees will be?

I'd expect LINCOLN, LES MISERABLES and LIFE OF PI to get the most nominations in total, potentially with SKYFALL not too far behind if it does as well as hoped in the technical categories. I believe that they only announce the major category nominations in the 13:30 GMT press conference - so our best hope there lies in a Best Supporting Actor nod for Bardem. The full list of nominees should then be on the Oscars website around the same time.

Hopefully Lincoln gets every nomination it deserves.

I should know by the time I get home with my Coffee at about 6am. Hoping 'Zero Dark Thirty' gets it's well deserved nominations.

Lincoln, Life Of Pi and Les Miserables will be the big ones I reckon.

You can always tell the films that are genetically bred for the Oscar season!  :)

I hope 'Life Of Pi' doesn't get nominated. It's one of the worst books I've ever had to read. Most of these "Oscar" films didn't appeal to me, or they looked like complete crap.

Great, all I see is a black screen. Guess I'll have to go to the twitter feed.

Adele's "Skyfall" nominated for Best Original Song, Roger Deakins nominated for Best Cinematography!

No nomination for Javier Bardem or for Best Picture.

So we have:

  • Cinematography
  • Music - Original Score
  • Music - Original Song
  • Sound Editing
  • Sound Mixing

Dissapointed nothing for Javier or Judi, and of course Best Picture (never going to happen, really) but proud 'Skyfall' is being nominated for the technical side of the film which was a major wow factor itself, and for the music.

Let's hope 'Skyfall' bags at least one!

If Deakins and Newman don't win, I'm going to go crazy.

Love that the swedish documentary "Searching for Sugar Man" got nominated. Also that Chile got its first nomination ever: "No" by Pablo LarraĆn.

I'd be astonished if either won, to be honest. I wasn't expecting Newman to even in contention. Being nominated at all is a great victory for Bond movies, and blockbusters as a whole, though. Realistically, I'm going to be pinning my hopes of victory on Adele and the sound categories. :)

The Sound Editing and Mixing awards are a good shot. I believe it'll win all the awards it's nominated for.

Off-topic: I'm shocked that Kathryn Bigelow got snubbed for Best Director for 'Zero Dark Thirty'. I'm even more shocked Jason Clarke got snubbed for Best Supporting Actor as he was phenomenal in that film. I think Alexandre Desplat should've had his score for 'Zero Dark Thirty' nominated, as it's better than his score for Argo, which was nominated.

Quite a few tabloids and critics have noted the 'snubs' already, top names coming up are Ben Affleck, Kathryn Bigelow and 'Skyfall'. Which is nice Bond is being seen as robbed of more nominations.
