No, sadly not amusing cheeky joke but a sad story from the BBC that we as proud James Bond fans, should honour with the fact this little one helped 007 open the London 2012 Olympic Games!

One of the Queen's corgis, which appeared in a short James Bond sketch for the Olympics opening ceremony, has died, Buckingham Palace has said. Monty and two other corgis greeted actor Daniel Craig, playing 007, in the short film.

The death of Monty, 13, who was previously owned by the Queen Mother, leaves two corgis in the palace.

The royal family's ties with the breed began when the future George VI bought his first Pembroke corgi in 1933.

The palace announced the death of Monty and of Cider, a dorgi, or dachsund-corgi cross-breed.

In the short film, screened ahead of the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Games, the dogs ran down the stairs and performed tummy rolls.

They then stood as a helicopter took off for the Olympic stadium, carrying Bond and a stunt double of the monarch.

Willow and Holly are the two remaining corgis. And two dorgis, Candy and Vulcan, remain at the palace.

Out of all Bond's allies - Leiter, Wade, Vijay - Monty was my fave.

Well, Chief, I had heard he was signed up for a couple of sequels. He made quite an impact in the opening of those Olympics!

As a former companion of a dachshund hybrid I have to ask for a moment of reverence for Cider, too. I feel sure Monty's artistic brilliance was only possible because of the headstrong example of a dachshund in his pack. Behind every great animal actor there is a dachshund who pushed in that direction...

Yep, the fame went to his head and he ended up doing drugs and going to wild Hollywood parties. It was an overdose that did it in the end.
