"End of the year." "New song." Not "new CD." Not "new album."
The hints are flying, folks.

I still don't want Adele doing this...she's just too....current, and obvious, and over-rated.
Oh well, we'll see....but it's all exciting new 'Skyfall' developments!

The following story showed up on Yahoo. Notice the wording. She says she expects to have a new song out by the end of the year.

Yes, she also says that a new album is at least 2 years away. So it’s not the forerunner for a new album. Why would she be recording just one track and releasing it before the end of this year? What’s if for?
On Jonathon Ross last year, she said she was recording a “Theme”.
And then there’s Craig’s cheeky, “What about Adele?" to Barbara Broccoli in front of journalists.
The hints keep coming.

Yeah I think the Ross interview was more of a hint because she said 'theme' (although did deny it was Bond): she could well have a new song out by the end of the year if they re-release her last album with an extra track or two on, which I've heard is the plan.
True. What if that extra track was a very well publicized "theme"?
EDIT:
Roger Friedman the showbiz columnist for Forbes, says that an “insider” has told him that Adele is indeed working on a track for Skyfall’s theme – for whatever that’s worth. More fuel to set fire to the rain.

Well, if Adele is doing 'Skyfall', then Craig probably will get his first powerful Bond ballad!

'Another Way To Die' isn't the worst Bond theme, and the music itself is very Bond-like, that twangy guitar riff.
I think it and "Die Another Day" are easily the worst.

Recent films and themes are always judged more harshly. I don't particularly like DAD and AWTD, but part of my antipathy is transferred from the film itself. On the other hand, while I love the film LTK, I despise Gladys Knight's "Licence to Kill". Quality-wise, I find that to be the absolute nadir of Bond themes. The instrumentation is cheesy and the tune is derivative (of Goldfinger) and unmemorable. It's totally bush-league.
Indeed, LTK theme tune is garish and hell on the ears. Though i like how 'grand' it sounds, very Bondian.
I can't wait to hear Adele sing the title theme to Skyfall. Immensely talented singer, she'll be the new Bassey.

Don't want that chav anywhere near a Bond soundtrack.
How dare you! She may be a bit of a nutter but her voice is incredible. Perhaps you should remove the cotton buds from inside your ears?

Nah, I hope it's not her..got a LOT more interesting and powerful singer/bands I'd rather see than her, because I know it will be another predictable ballad. I just don't think she's got the 'voice' for James Bond.
But I'm not Paul Gambachinni so don't hold me to anything...

See. I love it because of Gladys Knight's voice. She brings it, even if the lyrics and production don't. I have no problem with Adele because of her voice/technical ability. I'd rather her belt one out than Madonna vocalizing with the aid of Autotune.
Just give me a tune that flows with the credit sequence and let's me truly settle into my seat before the movie continues. That's all I ask.

I agree. It's a shame Knight coudn't have had a more memorable tune to work with. (Though as The Dove notes, it's nowhere near as drab and sleep inducing as "All Time High," which is my absolute least favorite Bond theme.) I disagree that it's derviative of "Goldfinger" overall--it's just the opening chords that are. The rest of it sounds nothing like "Goldfinger," perhaps unfortunately . . .

I think AWTD should have been their duet. And it should have been a different song. I would seriously love to hear them together, though...I mean, they're both getting way up there and still performing.I think Skyfall theme should be a duet like AWTD, A duet between SHirley Bassey and Tom Jones
I'm all for Adele on Skyfall, though.

What a shame, No offence to Adele, but how predicable -- can almost hear her Bond song already.
Woulda' much preferred Depeche Mode or Fever Ray

I still think U2 could knock it out the park if they really tried, Depeche Mode or Massive Attack with a great vocalist, I would say Portishead but just too leftfield to be even considered but they could make a great theme.
As for Adele I'm non plussed on her doing it or not, I hope it is a collaboration with Newman and not just some independent theme not linked to the score, I think it is likely she's got the job though, I guess we'll see.

That's not really a selling point: it'd be available elsewhere.

What, like the rest of 21, before repackaging?
“Now featuring the hit single and theme to the new James Bond film Skyfall.” Would be just the sort of sticker they’d affix to the packaging.

You should hear Pulp cover (produced by David Arnold) of All Time High", it's quite a redemption for that song.Don't know any of Adele's music myself but hey I'll say I'd rather her than another utterly awful "Die Another Day" or sappy-
"All Time High" (god, that song is one of the reasons why Octopussy ranks rather low on my list of favorite Bond films..)
