And Craig's Bond looks like a tiger in constant repose, which seems more like the literary version.

Nah, FWIR the literary Bond was often out of shape and indulging in excesses. He weren't exactly an Olympic athlete.

Well, that's true, he would often start out in pretty bad shape and then shore up for a mission or M would send him somewhere to clean up, which doesn't really work too well in real life. But I think what I mean is that Bond in the novels was also a brute with a killer instinct, which I think George Lazenby really nailed in his one and only portrayal in a way that Connery hadn't. It's interesting to also note that Bond smoked like a chimney in the novels, and other than a few cigars none of the Bonds smoked in the films. Or did he? Am I blanking....?

If Statham was smart at all he'd know not to cross Bruce Lee, hypothetically. I couldn't imagine it being a draw, but to each their own. :)

Supposedly Statham's next project is 'Parker', which are based on great novels. This will be a chance to show whether he has respect for or even understands the source material or if he's just another guy out to make a buck. Who they choose as director will be a good indication.

Right, I heard about that being directed by Taylor Hackford. It was already shot actually as IMDb listed it in Post-Production. I believe the Mel Gibson film Payback was loosely adapted from the Parker novels right?

Oh, that Parker. Nice.

Taylor Hackford? I'll have to look him up, I hope he's good. The Parker novels were adapted a number of times, Mel Giblson was one, Lee Marvin in Point Blank, Robert Duvall in... The Outfit, I think...? There might be more that I'm forgetting, but there's a lot of books. I'm not expecting Statham to get it right, and I'd love it if he proved me wrong and I was pleasantly surprised. Visually, the author based Parker on Jack Palance.

Except for Moore, all the Bonds through Dalton smoked cigarettes. I think Moore stuck exclusively to cigars, though I couldn't swear to it.

Personally, the 60´s look was way more natural than today´s pumped up steroid-style where everybody has to look as if they are spending at least four hours a day in a fitness studio, with a personal trainer and chef.

When does Bond find the time for that?

Actually - what else has he got to do? When there's no killing to be done he has to keep in shape and his gun in practice. And that's it really. No use having the guy snoop around HQ and picking up all kinds of secrets when there's a high likelihood he'll end up on a chair minus seat or in front of a buzz saw. Whatever internals stuff the guy knows, if it's more than the menue of the canteen it's wasted. Let him fight the whole day, that's his calling anyway... ;)

What else?

Frequent gambling clubs, meet women, eat at fantastic restaurants, drink martinis, visit his tailor, etc.

Yes, but there are also those flexible office hours from nine till five and there he's hopefully hitting the gym floor, the shooting range and the odd obstacle course at some military installation.
