Although the odd mention of Julia Mackenzie makes me think it might not be entirely untrue...

Struck me as an April Fool's joke.
Me too, although I'm not sure. Doesn't sound entirely bizarre enough somehow. And: McKenzie...?

It would seem odd for two different papers to be doing variations on the same gag...

The Express are reporting it as filming for Skyfall:

Wow, the ultimate April Fools prank. We think its a joke and it turns out to be real.

Therefore, is this a hoax? Probably. But then again it would be a great addition to the Olympic opening ceremony. If it is part of the opening ceremony. Which it won't be. Probably. Or not. As the case may be. :-)

If true, it's a horrible idea. If it's not true, it's a pretty lame April Fools joke.

As a Bond fan and an Olympics fan, I think I'd cringe equally if it actually turned out to be true.
Actually, I think you are right, I was just taking aim at the red tops who promote this stuff. Can't help thinking that (1) it seemed like a good April Fool joke or (2) someone in red top land noticed that David Arnold is involved in the Olympic ceremonies, and thought that Bond might be involved as well.

My response wasn't aimed at you; sorry if I accidentally gave that impression. I'm of the opinion that it probably is a joke, but I do find it odd that two papers seem to have the same gag! Interesting that David Arnold wasn't actually referred to in the articles really. If they'd done their research, that would clearly be an obvious observation to make. Curiouser and curiouser!Actually, I think you are right, I was just taking aim at the red tops who promote this stuff. News Corp. owns both the Sun and Fox Sports. But if this is an April Fool's joke, it's a good one. Type "daniel craig the sun buckingham palace" into Google and note all the hits.

Never thought for a moment it was aimed at me.:-) No need to apologise. By the way, is it just me or has the screen layout of these forums gone a pastel shade of blue & white overnight? Thought for a moment I was on the MI6 site. :-)
As for the "joke", well it does seem odd that two red tops have gone for the same thing, but there's no mention of David Arnold, and I would have expected his name to crop up as he is linked to Bond and the Olympics. Then again, red tops tend to focus on whoever is Bond and whoever his latest female "squeeze" is, rather than who's doing the background music.

At first I thought this was an April Fool's joke, but it turns out that several sources have turned up with this. I hope it's true. This is probably one of the best things to happen to Skyfall, when it comes to marketing, even if it may not be directly referenced. Of course, it could do well anyway.
SkyFall will do major business at the box office with or without this kind of publicity.
I sincerely hope that this isn't true and that it's just an April Fools prank. While Bond can, and has, be a spokesman for various kinds of products, I don't think that he should be a part of the Olympics. I just don't see the two as being compatible in the slightest, and putting the two together will simply make a mockery of both Bond and, even worse, the Olympics.

I kinda like the idea Celebrate the 50th anniversary and the summer Olympics all in one. win win in my book
How do these two things possibly relate besides being related to Britain?

True. The more I think about it, perhaps it should present itself more from the perspective of Daniel Craig the actor rather than James Bond the role. Most people should already know who he is. Skyfall will get the publicity it should anyway, and it will do well regardless of the Olympics thing, if true. The idea of James Bond, a fictional character presenting the Olympics is kind of over-the-top and corny, while I can definitely accept Daniel Craig himself opening it.

That's all they need to do. You may as complain in the same way if they show a red double decker bus at any point of the Olympics.
