Bond is a character that intrinsically relies on references to survive though. If it didn't there'd be no "Bond, James Bond" or vodka martinis or Walther pistols or dinner jackets or casino scenes or gunbarrel or any of the general outlines of what makes a Bond story. It would not even exist any more, as it would not have kept such a strong following or sense of identity and theatre.
I don't really see how having a little bit with the DB5 is any less lazy than having anything else which is attached to Bond.
They can do the scenes well or poorly, that is all, and I hope to see some great scenes here.

#jamesbond loks like a generic warehouse shoot, but quite a lot of limousines and the police said the aston martin was there earlier
Another interesting detail is that a few days after the shoot (yesterday) was added to the database of Castingcallpro the name Alan Low, who plays a chauffeur and whose etnicity is Asian:

The only thing we know so far about the scene that was filmed in Childers Street / Deptford / New Cross during the last week is that it is a car chase. We know that 007 is driving the Aston Martin DB5, but we do not know if and by whom he is escaping and what is the type of car the baddies are driving. I found on Twitter a detail that may be relevant: on the place of the shoot there were some limousines

I think with a Bond film, people see a scene with cars and they say “car chase”.
We only have a few observers, people not actually involved, saying it was a “car chase” on Twitter. And the one I saw posted it before the shoot, (ie he'd been told by someone there was going to be a car chase. Who? Why? Well, there was a scene involving cars).
I think it could just as easily be Bond trailing a limo or Bond driving to some shady destination where a number of limos have gathered for whatever reason. Bond could be spying on them or listening in or investigating somehow.
I think that's all possible.

Are you talking about the photo that appeared in the print addition of the Star or another one?

I’ve seen it, but don’t own a copy.
It was a different DB5 from the one in the other photo. (but represents the same car). It had no wheels. It was strapped onto an elaborate camera mount/flatbed truck, so that the camera crew could film into it whilst on the move.
M and Bond inside.
You could see the number plate, I can’t remember exactly what, but a British plate.

Would you like to buy one of these? A good condition 'Real' DB5 will set you back £250-£350'000.
We are looking at doing a very limited run of 5 replica's for circa £150k each. They will be built with new aluminium bodies on a bespoke chassis with Jaguar running gear, they will look and sound authentic but with better levels of comfort performance and drive.
Serious enquiries only to [email protected]

Bond has been using the DB5 as his own personal car since GE and in this new timeline we've already had an origin for it. I dont know why anyone would expect that it wouldnt be the same one from CR, of course it would, why wouldnt it be?
Because that one was wrong-hand drive!

It's also known as the Toyota 86:
And the Scion FRS:
The only real difference between them is the styling - under the skin, the whole thing is a joint Toyota-Subaru project (Scion is Toyota's American arm).
There's a scene in MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL where Tom Cruise jumps into a nearby car for a chase in Dubai. And while there are no lingering shots of the car's badge, it is, in retrospect, really obvious product placement - the Cruiser always gets into BMWs; the one in Dubai is just the first time he does it.
So I think that if ever Bond were to be in a position where he needed to jump straight into a car, I think a BRZ/86/FRS would be a good choice. The cars look phenomenal, but they're only about a third of the price of an Aston Martin.

There is a very interesting detail in the following comment:
"I was driving through New Cross early on Saturday morning to view a Silver Birch DB5 being towed on a trailer. Unusual enough, but I got quite excited when I could see that the digits on the reg were BMT2**** leading me to speculate that it was a Bond car, probably on it’s way into London for a show. Then I saw this story and it all made sense. I would possibly expect the DB5 to get trashed in the film as one minute later a burnt out shell of a DB5 was being towed in a follow up car. Again this seemed unusual at the time but now makes sense."
If someone was hoping for a "casual" use of the DB5 , I fear he will be disappointed...

Much of the information that we actually have, lead to this conclusion. But if you accept this outcome, you should be willing to accept the fact that probably the tragic death of our beloved DB5 is the logical conclusion of a car chase ( and it appears that some members of this forum are reluctant to accept this idea).
There are several clues that make this hypothesis plausible:
-It took at least two nights for filming the scene: December , Thursday 8 and Friday 9 (which indicates that the scene has a certain complexity);
-It appears that at least 2 Aston Martins have been used for filming (the one we saw in the photo and that burnt out one) and even 3 if you consider that the one photographed by the Daily Star could be a further car;
-Gary Powell, the stunt co-ordinator, was on set on december friday 9th, so it is logical to assume that they were going to shoot a stunt scene;
-It has been previously reported by The Daily Mail (http://www.thesun.co...go-bananas.html) that the production had been buying some old VW Beetles for a stunt (this news has not been confirmed and you can not for sure connect it to the matter at hand, however this choice is consistent with the intention of recreating a sort of old looking car chase)
Then, if you buy the theory of the car chase, you can't deny that there is a parallelism with the one in Goldfinger:
-Both of the scenes are taking place at night
-In both of them the location is an industrial estate
-Bond is driving the same car
-The chase ends in the same way: with a crash ( in this photo we see a set that could be a Skyfall set : there is a wall at the end of what could be a dead end in an industrial complex that could serve as the crash site http://www.flickr.co...tream/lightbox/ )
Given the secrecy surrounding the production of Skyfall, we have just to wait and see...

In this interview ,which has already been posted in the Ola rapace thread, Daniel Craig says that he and Ola Rapace "filmed together the other night". Considering that it was published on December, Monday 12, we can assume that Rapace has been involved in the scene they filmed at Charing Cross tube station or in the scene featuring the Aston Martin db5...
Could anyone find exactly when Craig was interviewed?

Bond 23 film shoot in Deptford
Friday, 9 December 2011
The feature film boys and girls did quite a nice lighting job on our warehouse during a recent location shoot for the new James Bond movie, Skyfall. We heard on the grapevine that between scenes, Mr Craig himself was holed up in our local, the Lord Palmerston playing darts with the locals. Which even for Bond is pretty brave!

007 comeback for classic Aston Martin car
"One of the crew working on Skyfall, the 23rd film in the Bond series, yesterday said filmmakers had borrowed "a couple of DB5s", suggesting the car first seen in Goldfinger 48 years ago may be involved in a chase scene."

Don´t quite agree with that. Have you read the novels Dustin? If so, do you remember Bond´t relationship with his Bentley? Every man needs his horse.I revisit this thread only now, after months. Frankly I'd be delighted to see the DB5 go, ideally in a way that precludes restoration. It definitely demanded too much space within Bond's world recently. Bond never wanted to be the slave of his car and the DB5 came close to achieving this since GE.

Because I've read the novels. Bond likes his car but changes it frequently over the years. The 4.5 litre is replaced by the Continental in MR. By the time of TB he's got yet another Continental and we don't learn what happened to the MR model. But TB mentiones Bond refuses to be his property's slave. Of course, Bond is fond of cars. But he also goes with the times and I prefer that to the frequent DB5 reappearences since GE. I liked that Lazenby, Moore and Dalton had their own up-to-date models and would have preferred if the DB5 was left alone where it belonged.

I can, of course, see it the way you do, and I actually agree to some degree. The thing is, I find the DB5 a thing of beauty and having Bond drive a 1964 car is as exotic as it gets and IMO that´s what we need in this franchise, exotic an bizarre mixed with reality and grounded escapism. That being said, I wouldn´t mind seeing Bond drive a Virage, continuing the trend set by those Bonds you mentioned.

Very lazy, unimaginative cinema. Just as it was in GE and CR.
Back in the day when EON had courage to move forward and not look back, Lazenby, Moore and Dalton got nowhere near a DB5.
But I guess that was back in the day when EON were more creative and did not need to rely on the baggage of the past to produce "classic" Bond.
Disappointing.
PS - I also feel anyone expecting any continue with the DB5 in CR is likely to be let down; fanboy continuity will not be a concern of the filmakers.
Well, I prefer to look at it this way.
The Bond of the early books kept a classic car as his personal car (the pre-1930 Bentley 4 ½ litre).
Keeping and maintaining a classic car for the love of driving it, shows an important part of his character.
Using the DB5 in a modern day set Bond story, in the same way the old Bentley was used in the 50s, makes perfect sense to me and I’m pleased to see it.
I totally agree. The DB5 is Bond's own car - won in CR - and it's really great to see it back.
There's a pic in the dreaded Daily Star today - just took a look in the shop 'coz I will not pay for that paper - but it did have a new snap from Friday night's
shoot showing the DB5 on a low loader - used for filming - and there are def two people in the car. A glimpse of white hair strongly suggests M sat in the left
passenger's seat and we can see Bond in the right driver's seat. Obviously Bond has had the drive converted from left to right since bringing it back from the Bahamas.

It’s great to see the number plate reading BMT 216A.

Take a look at the plate: BMT 216A was the number in GF and TB, but in the Brosnan era it was BMT 214A. In CR we had an American plate and now, Bond had "replated" his car with the 216A...
