Boy, EON and Medes will be very happy with the agent talking to the press...
So they go younger with Q. A logical step. That SKYFALL indeed has Q is interesting. If Eve is indeed Moneypenny then we will have the full set back. Well, lots of opportunities for complaining...

He's different but not a full-on comedy character. I'd hoped a new Q wouldn't be too much of a reaction against old versions, and this feels right.

A young Q will add a new dynamic to the series. I wonder if Whishaw has already signed on for more than one film. Would certainly make sense.

I'm very curious to see where EON go with this: a brash, arrogant youngster who endears himself to Bond? A socially-awkward near-genius? I just hope they don't go in for the stuffy inventor trope in the vein of Desmond Llewellyn and John Cleese too soon, but to leave the path open for that. For example, by having him provide Bond with something that he is "particularly proud of", only to be disappointed/heartbroken when Bond brings it back in ten pieces.A young Q will add a new dynamic to the series.

Considering that Mendes went to great lengths to say that this role, amongst several others, was one that he "could tell us nothing about", I didn't want to know this information.

I was about to say the same thing.Shouldn't this have been in the spoiler section (and with a thread title that didn't give this away on the main page)?

I'm sort of hoping he's just a professional guy doing his job.
One thing this news may mean is... do we get a couple more gadgets this time around? I love a gadget.

Seeing this is going to be splashed everywhere I hardly think a spoiler notice would have made much difference. It is huge on the BBc website for a start.Shouldn't this have been in the spoiler section (and with a thread title that didn't give this away on the main page)?

Then we could have let the news outlets spoil it rather than having it spoiled here. I've gone out of my way to avoid spoilers on every news/entertainment site about SkyFall, so it's possible that I could have avoided this on a news/entertainment site. Plus, I'm not sure how much play it would get in the US anyway, considering very few people (I'm guessing) over here know who Ben Wishaw is.

Yep. And it's not exactly a shocker, is it? Pointless of them to try to cover it up in the first place, really.Seeing this is going to be splashed everywhere I hardly think a spoiler notice would have made much difference. He should be good, though. I'm expecting quirky rather than nerdy.

I think he's a perfect fit, it's nice to see Whishaw in a Bond film, he's from the same town as me as well.

The idea of this being a spoiler amuses me; if you frequent Bond forums you're going to be seeing info about the new Bond film, and generally who's playing who does get mentioned occasionally!
It is a spoiler if the filmmakers didn't want us to know the identity of the character, which they obviously didn't.
I guess there's no reason for there to be a spoiler section in this forum anymore if we're just going to post everything up on the main page in easily visible thread titles. And, NO, I shouldn't have to see information about the new film in the regular forums when there is a perfectly good Spoiler Section that is meant for such information. That's the entire point of the Spoiler Section, if I'm not mistaken.
I guess I can look forward to a story on the site's main page next week spoiling the ending of the film and the meaning of the title as well.
Surely, the thread title could have simply been "Wishaw's character revealed" or something like that?

This isn't a spoiler. Knowing the cast of a film before the release date isn't spoiling anything. Stop being childish; it's annoying but I've come to expect this from tdalton unfortunately.

Exactly.
It’s quite ridiculous to suggest that this bit of casting news is a spoiler.
The reason all the cast and character names was not released at once, was so Eon could drip-feed the news through over the months - it sustains interest. The agent in question has confirmed this at this stage because he/she has been told that they can now.
Knowing the cast and who they are playing is not a spoiler, unless it’s something to do with a secret identity. Which this isn't.

Yet. But I bet they would have. Just as I'm sure the name of Fiennes' character will come out before the film does; they're just dribbling info out.
If the film's plot hinges on a surprise reveal of what Q looks like (!) I'll eat my keyboard.

But at this early stage, some people may consider it as spoiler (as we can see from the discussion in this thread).
Anyhow, I'd say a change of the thread title is in order, but move to the spoiler forums? Come on...

There was evidently a new round of Whishaw-as-Q-stories in the tabloid papers. So the agent (perhaps in consultation with Eon, perhaps not) confirmed it to the BBC.
