[OO7 is the man!!]

In all the series so far, what are your top 3 fight scenes -

heres mine...

1. Casino Royale - The fight scene with the 2 guys with the swords on the stairs. Very brutal and full on.

2. From Russia with love - The train fight with robert shaw.

3. Goldeneye - With Sean Bean at the end

3 - Final fight of Thunderball, always hated the way it's directed.
2 - Roof fight between James Bond and Sandor. Always hated the way Roger Moore acts fight scenes.
1 - James Bond and Kananga.

I'm afraid to get some flak for this but...

1. Bond vs. Che Che in the hotel room in OHMSS- For me it seems better choreographed than the pre-title sequence and is really an edge of your seat kind of fight.

2. Bond vs. Slate in the hotel room in QoS - I know, I know. This is the part where most non-Bond fans raise their hands and say "Who's that guy?" but as a fight scene, it is quick, brutal, and everything Craig's Bond should be. (Lots of swishing noises too make it pretty awesome)

3. Bond vs. Sandor on the rooftop in TSWLM - one of those rare instances in Hollywood where less is more. No music and fewer cuts in the editing make for a good old fashion realistic fist fight. You also have to love when he hits that tie.

EDIT: I meant to say this earlier. 007 is the man!!, welcome. I have not seen you in these parts yet but I hope your time is enjoyable here. And yes, 007 is indeed, the man.

In no particular order

The fight on the Hercules plane in The Living Daylights which extends onto the cargo netting thousands of feet above the Earth!

The stairwell brouhaha in Casino Royale which is a tough, brutal fight in an enclosed area with an even narrower surface!

The Orient Express mano-y-mano between Bond and Red Grant (*spoiler*) that is just pure excellence and realistic.

Runner ups

Dr. No - The first action scene Bond engages in the series between himself and a lowly agent of SPECTRE which is relatively simple, yet effective in Bond's efficiency.

From Russia with Love - The train sequence of course is one of the best, but the sequence where Klebb hits Red Grant in the gut with a knuckleduster is pretty good, although not a fight scene. Speaking of Klebb, the "lion tamer" sequence is also good.

Goldfinger - Who can forget the Ft. Knox one on one between Bond and OddJob with a nuclear weapon set to go off in mere seconds? Or the little dalliance between Pussy Galore and Bond that makes her "vulnerable" to his charms? Or the pre-credits teaser with one of the best one-liners ever?

Thunderball - The underwater climax is the best of this overrated film.

You Only Live Twice - A pretty good fight when Bond infiltrates Osato's HQ. And the battle at the docks is good as well.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service - All of the action is excellent with this one.

Diamonds are Forever - It seems small spaces between large people work best for Bond, as the elevator fight is a classic donnybrook of the highest caliber.

Live & Let Die - The Baron Samedi fight in the graveyard is good, the double-decker bus chase is good, but it's the Bond - TeeHee fight on the train (Read DAF referrence on small spaces) is the best of this film.

The Man with the Golden Gun - The car chase is great, penny whistle included, and the climax in the fun house is really good.

The Spy Who Loved Me - The pre-credits teaser, the Sardina car chase and the small scene between Bond and Stromberg in the end.

Moonraker - The "Bull in the China Shop" scene.

For Your Eyes Only - Great car chase among the twisty roads of Albania, the storming of Kristatos' docks, the pre-credits teaser, and the end of the film itself.

Octopussy - The nail biting rush to the bomb, the plane fight (Yet again, small space), the top of the train fight, and the pre-credits teaser.

AVTAK - A hard one, but the Golden Gate tussle, the massacre of Zorin's men by Zorin's hands, the horse chase and the city hall scene.

The Living Daylights - Yet again, all the scenes are excellent from pre-credits teaser to Whitaker's Last Stand.

Licence to Kill - Almost the same as the prior film, yet the bar scene is relatively weak. But the rest of the action is top notch, from the capture of Sanchez by air fishing, to the terrific semi-truck chase amongst the winding mountain roads of Isthmus.

GoldenEye - All are good and very intense.

Tomorrow Never Dies - Yet again, all good.

The World is Not Enough - All except most of submarine fight (Exception to the "small" rule).

Die Another Day - A lot of them are good, but most of Iceland is wasted, save for a cool car chase, and the climatic battle aboard the airplane, which is fairly lame. The pre-credits and the fencing battle at "Blades" are really fun.

Casino Royale - All are muy excellente!

Quantum of Solace - Most are quite good, kinda choppy, but a good chunk of the climax is pretty bland, but Bond's escape, and the floating opera sequence are pretty low-key but great in an otherwise action-bloated film. Oh, and the scene where Bond chases M's almost-assassin.

I watched Quantum of Solace last night and I have to amend my list. The fight with Slate was brilliant the first time I saw it but I didnt really consider it in the top 3. Watching it again, it's so precise and calculated and the choppy editing doesn't negatively interfere here (unlike nearly every other action scene in the movie save the car chase. Also somebody's mention of Bond vs. Sandor on top of the roof in TSWLM as one of the worst fight scenes is absolutely off base but did remind me that I forgot that in my calculations and it is without a doubt Roger Moore's best fight scene.

Peter Franks in the glass elevator in DAF

And sorry, TCK, but I also like Bond vs Kananga in LALD (love the production still, though!)

I'm surprised the fight in the Siena art gallery during QUANTUM OF SOLACE hasn't been mentioned. I think it's fantastically imaginitive, even if the whole thing is a bit of a Rube Goldberg machine. My only complaint about it is that Mitchell only drops his gun at the end of the fight to give Bond enough tim to get to his gun. I also like the fight between Bond and Necros in the back of the cargo plane during THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS. And third of all, the stairwell brawl in CASINO ROYALE, simply because it looked like an actual fight and not some facny choreography. I'll give an honourable mention to the sword fight in DIE ANOTHER DAY. Although it was clearly choreographed, I like the way both Bond and Graves advance through different types of weapons (fencing sabres, katanas and claymores) and use the envionrment. It's a highlight of the film.

As for the three worst, it's a tie between the beach fight in ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE and the elevator fight in DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER. I've never understood why those scenes were sped up, and while it was a common tactic in the day, it's painfully obvious in both these films. The reason being is because the waves on the beach and the floors going past are both regular and rhythmic, so they have the unintended side-effect of making things look even more sped-up. My other least-favourite fight is the climax of YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE, with the Japanese Self-Defence Forces attacking the SPECTRE volcano. If you look closely, you can clearly see that footage of the fight is re-used (when the commandos try to cross the bridge and breach the command centre), and several of the ninjas are wearing ragged clothes because they were shot and killed during the initial attack at the rim of the crater. I'm also giving a dishonourable mention to the laser fight in DIE ANOTHER DAY. I like the concept of Bond kickboxing in an environment that can kill him, but the scene also featured the ridiculous Mr. Kil and Halle Berry.

I couldn't agree more with your second choice Miles! That LTK barroom fight was an absolute embarrassment to that movie and the whole Bond franchise. It reminds me of several movies from the 80's that had scenes like that, "Back To School" being one of them. I was expecting Rodney Dangerfield to walk in at any time! And precisely because that was a comedy, that's the type of movie you would expect to see something like that in, NOT in a Bond movie. And in a Bond movie that was otherwise terrific except for THAT scene, to boot! As a matter of fact, I will even go one step further and suggest that this fight was not only awful, it was downright offensive because it was so sophmoric and so lazy of the writers to leave that scene inI Plus it hardly did anything to advance the plot anyway. But I digress. It was only one bad fight in the entire series, but still it was so blantantly bad that this is what gives the more casual Bond fan room to make fun of and disrespect what was otherwise one of the best movies in the series.

But in keeping on topic, my three best Bond fights are as follows:

1. Bond's fight with Grant in FRWL.

2. Bond's fight with Franks in DAF.

3. The swordfight between Bond and Graves in DAD.

An honorable mention goes to the Bond/Slate fight in QOS. It was short but intense, and really gave an insight into just how brutal Craig's Bond could be. Glad to see that fight getting a few votes here.
