FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY (2004)
The PTS is set in the past (and filmed in black and white). James Bond is standing over Tracy's grave, laying fresh flowers on it, one night, when he is greeted by Marc Ange Draco, his father in law, who is also visiting the grave. Draco tells Bond not to blame himself for Tracy's death. Bond tells him that no matter how much he tries, he cannot forgive himself for letting Blofeld continuously get away and failing to avenge Tracy. He mentions how everytime he destroys SPECTRE, it always keeps coming back larger and more powerful than ever, and everytime he believes hes killed Blofeld, the villain keeps coming back from the grave and Bond has only ever killed an imposter. Draco however tells Bond that he has received information about Blofelds current whereabouts and that this time there will be 'no imposter'. He offers Bond the information, which he gladly accepts...
Cut to a chemical plant in East Germany, where Blofeld has been hired by the Soviets to wage chemical warfare on the West. Bond infiltrates the base, kills numerous KGB and SPECTRE agents and confronts Blofeld. Blofeld holds Bond under a gun and taunts him about Tracy's death. Bond however activates the plastic explosives he'd placed in the base earlier which start to detonate. The explosions allow Bond to escape swiftly. Its only once hes safely outside that he triggers the second batch of explosives that completely obliterates the base, killing Blofeld once and for all. Later we have a brief scene in MI6 Headquarters where Bond completes a Top Secret report labelled 'Ernst Stavro Blofeld' which he stamps as 'Terminated'...
After the opening credits (which involves a shadowy silhoutte of Bond with stylized visual representations of scenes from many of the older Bond movies displayed in the background amidst iconography pertaining to England (similar to the OHMSS PTS) and we cut to the present day (with a caption stating 'Fifteen Years Later' or something like that). A major terrorist attack occurs in London's Times Square with an entire building being destroyed. MI5 agents conduct an investigation shortly thereafter where they determine the sort of explosives and technology use. We see M, flanked by Tanner and Robinson in the situation room (seen in TND) viewing a list of suspected terrorists believed to be in possession of such technology and orders the entire Double O section into action. We see 00's tracking down, capturing and brutally questioning various suspects across the world. One agent, Paul Johnson, 008, interrogates a Palestine terrorist leader, who claims that his superiors within his terrorist group contacted an organisation named SPECTRE who carried out the attacks. Just as he says this, the terrorist is shot by a sniper. Paul chases the sniper across Istanbul, and captures him, but the sniper commits suicide rather than divulging information.
Johnson reports to M about the lead on SPECTRE, which shocks M as she remembers it was an criminal organisation that operated during the Cold War but has ultimately been destroyed with its leader Blofeld, killed in East Germany. She goes down into the MI6 digital archives with Johnson and accesses the information on Blofeld (including some of his background, which is taken from what was presented in the novel Thunderball, with no dates mentioned). M mentions how Blofeld constantly sought domination by pitting world powers against each other and how he was ultimately killed by the one agent for whom his death had become a personal vendetta-James Bond, 007. M even shows satellite footage of Blofelds demise in the explosion at the chemical factory. However M is convinced that is SPECTRE is back, she will need the aid of someone who has been up against the organisation before...she will need the man who destroyed it and its creator in the first place...
We cut to James Bond, part of the Diplomatic Section of the Service now, having been removed from Double O status as he was getting too old and burnt out for the job, especially after his ordeal in North Korea. Bond negotiates an exchange of intel with an Italian intelligence officer, though he clearly seems to find it a mundane task. It is then that he receives a call from M ordering him to urgently return to HQ as hes needed urgently...

He had always wanted to go out on one more. Whether he should have, is another question.

Imagine, what if Die Another Day wasn't the swan-song for the original cinematic James Bond and if Pierce Brosnan got to do a fifth Bond film that would have been 007's final adventure before the CR reboot.
Except DAD was not the swan song for the original cinematic James Bond, that would be either DAF or NSNA (depending on your pov). The Bond series has had somewhat of a reboot every time an actor changes. There is no way Brosnan's Bond could have battled Dr. No in 1962.

The problem is that Die Another Day was a letdown. If they had done it better -- if it lived up to its potential -- it would have been a great end to the era.
It's a shame, really. And how crazy that the film is already 00(7) years old, this month. Seems like only yesterday....

Bond hurries back from Rome to London where he reports at MI6 HQ. M informs him of SPECTRE's suspected return. Bond and M have a discussion about SPECTRE where Bond mentions how SPECTRE was constantly trying to play the world powers against each other and how he eventually not only destroyed the organisation but succeeded in killing Blofeld as well. M mentions the death of Bonds wife Tracy as well and gives her consolations for it. Bond tells her that it was a long time ago and hes gotten over it now. However he is shocked that SPECTRE has returned because he is convinced that only Blofeld could have ever brought it back. M however tells Bond there is probably a new mastermind behind SPECTRE now and asks Bond to find out who it is. She temporarily reinstates him as 007. Excited at the prospect of field work, Bond eagerly accepts the assignment.
In the meantime, on a yacht somewhere in the Carribbean, a terrorist leader named Harid Rashim is having a meeting with SPECTRE's second in command, an Englishman named Doughlas Wilson where he pays Wilson the sum of twenty million dollars in return for organising the attack in London. Wilson however reveals that that a member of Rashim's organisation has revealed to a British agent that SPECTRE was involved, leading to their organisations anonymity being compromised as MI6 is now aware of their return. He tells Rashim that the compromising man was eliminated but the damage has been done and as compensation, SPECTRE demands an additional ten million. Rashim refuses to pay up, but Wilson tells him that SPECTRE's loyalties are solely to those who bid the most for their services and that they have no qualms about revealing all the intel they have about Rashim's group, and his contacts in various Middle Eastern governments, to the US or British governments if they pay the right price. Rashim agrees to pay but protests that it is extortion, to which Wilson replies with a bitter smile, 'Extortion is our business'
Later, we see a board room somewhere in Paris, where a group of people, members of the new SPECTRE are seated around a conference table and having a video conference with Wilson, referred to as 'No. 2'. Wilson mentions that he has received thirty million dollars from Rashim. One of the other men on the table, No. 5 suggests investing in a lucrative assignment they have been offered by a Nigerian revolutionary group, while No. 3 suggests carrying out operations for terror groups in India. However, the chairman of the meeting, the enigmatic No. 1 (whose face is not seen) mentions that he already has been contacted by a highly profitable client for a mission in the Middle East. He mentions that his client is American. No. 5 is shocked by the idea of SPECTRE providing aid to a Western power especially when they are currently dealing with anti-Western Islamic radical groups, however No. 1 sharply cuts him off by reiterating that SPECTRE's objectives are to spread anarchy and chaos across the world and reap the profits of it, no matter whose paying them for they have no loyalties except to the organisation as well. He also warns No. 5 icily never to cross him again. No. 1 then instructs Wilson to travel to Munich, where he has arranged the meeting with the American...
Cut back to MI6 HQ where Bond is practising shooting with his old Walther PPK at the 'old fashioned firing range'. Q (formerly R) wonders why Bond isnt using the simulator to which Bond replied that it was too fantastic for his tastes and sometimes the 'old ways are best'. Q jokes about Bond being an old man now, but then shows him his latest Aston Martin as well as hands him some gadgets, including a modified PDA which has a direct line to all MI6 and NATO intelligence transmissions and even to MI6 satellite feeds, and which has a GPS locator built in and which can decode any electronic lock. He also gives him a pair of modified gloves and shoes with special retractable grooves and spikes built in that would allow him to scale up walls. Bond also heads over to the gym and works out, trying to get into shape for field work. The fitness trainer believes that Bond is pushing himself too hard, but Bond assures him that its necessary. Finally, Moneypenny comes into the gym and is quite amused to see a bare-chested Bond working it. They flirt briefly and she tells him that M has suggested he head over to Munich as 008 there has a lead. Bond agrees and sets out. We then see a jet taking off from London airport as the Bond theme starts to play...

I would have like to have seen a 5th for him too but I think you are right. Although, if it was to be his A View to a Kill, I would have wanted John Barry to score it.I would have liked to have seen a 5th Pierce film in 2004, though I remember seeing Laws Of Attraction and noticing how much he had aged since DAD. A fifth might've been his AVTAK.

And now, on for more...
Bond arrives in Munich where he is received by Paul Johnson, who appears to be over-awed at meeting this legendary agent from the past. Johnson explains to Bond how, on the corpse of the sniper he killed, the MI6 forensics technicians discovered a cheque from the corporate account of a certain firm WilTech, which on the surface appears to be a perfectly legitimate company belonging, through various intermediaries to a certain businessman named Doughlas Winston, who is suspected by Interpol of being involved in various dubious deals over the years, some of which may have involved extremist groups, but otherwise he has a clean bill of health as far as the international law enforcement and intelligence community is concerned. However, owing to his suspicious background, MI6 was monitoring him since the discovery and discovered, through various back channel sources, that he was hurrying to Munich for an important meeting with someone, and he feels that they should listen in on this meeting.
Bond and Johnson both venture into the darker corners of Munich and confront some underworld men, asking them about Wilson's whereabouts. They get into a fight with some thugs, in which Johnson fights pretty well and even Bond shows some remarkable prowess, inspite of age. They discover from one of the beaten thugs that Wilson has a meeting with an American man flying in from Washington in an office building. Bond and Johnson set up an elaborate survelliance of Wilson when he arrives in Munich (which is made easier by Bond's PDA) and put electronic bugs in the room where the two men are to meet. Johnson is concealed within the ventilators, while Bond is sneaking into various offices in the buildings, opening the safes in offices and checking the files, which seem innocent enough documents about Wilson's businesses. However, he does discover a disk, which he insets into a computer, only to find the files are heavily encrypted. However, he does manage to load the data onto his PDA.
In the meantime, Johnson overhears the meeting that has started between Wilson and the middle-aged American man who has come to meet him. The American reveals that he is willing to pay as much as 100 million US dollars if Wilson's company 'expands' its business into the 'concerned territory'. Wilson graciously acknowledges that his immediate superior is seriously considering the proposition and that he suggests they meet in Jamaica in a few days time where the American must pay half the fee. Johnson takes several pics of the American on his cellphone, while the conversation is recorded on tape. However, in other part of the building, Bond is found out by a guard and an alarm sounds out, after which, both Bond and Johnson are forced to run and contend with various guards throughout the building. They escape and get into Bond's Aston Martin and a car chase ensues in which they manage to shake off/kill all their opponents.

I always consider DAD to be Brosnans MR. I suspect that had he done a fifth film, things would have been brought back down to Earth in the same way FYEO did.I'm completely sure that if Brosnan did another it' be his A View To A Kill, cause he'd preety old and the audience would be more critical after the CGI fest Die Another Day.
Plus personally I think Brosnan carries his age off quite well.

Totally agree. And Brosnan would not have looked at all too old had he done another 007 outing. If a fifth film had been released with him, as it should have been in 2004, Brosnan would have been only 51 years old. He still looked good then (heck, he still does now) and I'm sure he would have gone out on a high note with a great performance and a solid film. And then we'd have Craig for Casino Royale in 2006. It's a shame it didn't happen. If Brosnan had done one more, I am sure it would have been a lot more dark and gritty, in the vein of Casino Royale....
However, I still think that a 5th Brosnan would have been a lot more realistic and edgier than most people would have expected.

Later, at the local MI6 station, Bond is communicating with M via a video-conference link while Johnson is doing a computerized ID-check of the mysterious American Wilson was meeting only to discover to his shock that the American is a high-ranking US Government official, Frederick Howards, a Pentagon intelligence officer. M confirms that she has heard that he was one of the many US officials who pushed for the invasion into Iraq and he is a highly-entrenched milatarist, extremist to the extent that the US administration does not entirely entertain his radical ideas. M suspects that Howards is up to something behind Uncle Sam's back and she tells Bond that he must find out what he can from this meeting in Jamaica.
Johnson asks Bond is he can accompany him, although he has heard that 007 always preferred to work alone. Bond however, impressed by Johnson's skills, agrees to let him accompany him to Jamaica.
In the meantime, Wilson is talking to No. 1 on a video-link and sends him pictures he'd taken with the survelliance cameras in the building in Munich of the two intruders whom he suspects are MI6 agents. No. 1 identifies Bond as a formidable adversary of SPECTRE from years before who has consistently proven to be a thorn in the organisation's side. He tells Wilson that 007 and his companion will no doubt be heading to Jamaica, and while there, Wilson should arrange for 008 to be taken out, so that he, No. 1, may personally deal with this far more formidable adversary with whom he has a 'score to settle'.
Bond and Johnson arrive in Jamaica, where Bond mentions he's been here before, and Wilson even casually remarks that he was born here. They meet up with Jack Wade and Felix Leiter, Bonds old friend who is now wearing a wooden leg. Leiter mentions how he is retired from the CIA, but was brought in for this special case owing to his previous experiance in dealing with SPECTRE alongside Bond. He also mentions how he and Wade have been keeping an eye on Wilson for quite some time now, because if SPECTRE was hired to attack Britain, its only a matter of time before US is targeted as well.
Later, in a bar, Bond tells Felix about Frederick Howards involvement with SPECTRE. Leiter is astonished. He then reminds Bond how they first worked together in Jamaica against Dr. No and how at that point of time, SPECTRE was involved in playing the powers against each other. He wonders what it can accomplish now that there are no rival powers. Bond however reminds Leiter that its still the civilized world against the terrorists, and it looks like SPECTRE is once again benefitting from this 'war', by hiring itself out both to Middle Eastern terrorists and now to a US Government official...

Imagine, what if Die Another Day wasn't the swan-song for the original cinematic James Bond and if Pierce Brosnan got to do a fifth Bond film that would have been 007's final adventure before the CR reboot. Well, imagine no longer, for I have done it. And here goes-
FOR QUEEN AND COUNTRY (2004)
More on this coming soon...

Wilson contacts Salamanca, a mercenary and torture specıalıst, and gives him an assignment...
Later, Bond is heading back to the hotel where he and Johnson are staying, and sees Johnson on the street, when Johnson is suddenly hit from a passing car by a tranquiliser dart and is bundled into the car which drives away. Bond steals a car parked nearby and drives off in pursuit, using the MI6 satellite coverage via his PDA to keep track of the vehicle. He ultimately arrives at a warehouse. He contacts Leiter and gives him his whereabouts. He then uses the gloves and boots with retractable spikes to scale the wall of the warehouse. He gets in, only to see Johnson being tortured by Salamanca. An enraged Bond attacks Salamanca and pursues him intently, while at the same time Felix arrives with several CIA agents, including a female sharpshooter who capture or kill Salamanca's henchmen. Bond himself pursues Salamanca to the docks and there is a boat chase on the Carribbean until Bond ultimately suceeds in shooting Salamanca dead and then blowing up his boat by hiting the fuel line.
Later, Bond, Felix and the female CIA operative, actually a Jamaican-American named Maureen, are outside Johnson's hospital room, where Leiter tells Bond that Johnson will survive, although it may take months for him to recover. Bond later takes a look at some of Johnson's belongings that are kept seperately on his tray (including his gun, passport, drivers licence etc.) and finds his wallet. In the wallet he finds a picture of none other than Honey Ryder! (the Bond girl from Dr. No). He has a brief flashback of Honey emerging from the sea. Bond is astonished by the discover of this photo in Johnson's possession, and walks by the beach to ponder this new startling information...
Later, No. 1 admonishes Wilson over the Salamanca situation in Jamaica, but Wilson defends himself by stating that the decision to capture and torture 008 for information first was entirely Salamanca's idea. He mentions that at any rate, 008 is out of commission, even if not dead, and that they can proceed with the plan. No. 5 however mentions how Wilson's operation has endangered the organisation's security and how the plan to help the Americans invade Iran is ridiculous. He requests No. 1 to immediately terminate No. 2's project and go along with his proposal instead. No. 3 too mentions that No. 5 is right, though he is not as vocal about it. No. 1 however icily mentions that he has already received information that someone within the organisation has been secretely leaking intel regarding Wilson's movements and travel patterns to the CIA and MI6, which is how they've been able to follow him so easily. No. 1 mentions how No. 2 has his complete confidence and any attempt at back-stabbing him will be considered as treason against SPECTRE, for which they all know the penalty. He makes No. 5 stand up and brow-beats him, insinuating that he's the one responsible, while his hand slides underneath his desk towards a silenced pistol. He then aims his gun at No. 5, who is terrified and pleading his innocence. Suddenly however, No. 1's gun veers to the left and shoots No.3 instead, who was the real traitor. No. 1 icily mentions that this should be considered a warning to all other members not to interfere with No. 2's plans. A sweating and visibly shaken No. 5 agrees, and sits down, while we finally get a brief shadowy glimpse on No. 1's face only to realise that its Ernst Stavro Blofeld...
Back in Jamaica, we see Maureen meeting up with Wilson at a club and then seducing him. Maureen then persuades Wilson to let her accompany him on his yacht, to which he agrees. After sleeping with Wilson that night, the next morning, under the pretext of laying out his clothes, she replaces one of his buttons with an electronic bug, which ties into a frequency that is picked up by Bond's PDA. Bond and Leiter are thus able to listen in on Wilson's meeting with Frederick Howards.
