You've done it again! BRILLIANT work.
Do I detect some Goldfinger inspiration for the beginning of 'Drugged'?

You mention Arnold & Barry but I think it sounds more like Jerry Goldsmith (especially his 13th warrior score)

Mharkin - Good call... but more of my influence definitely came from Thunderball rather than Goldfinger.
Mr. Wint - GREAT work

Though you do need to work on the Bond-harmonies a bit. i.e. the classic Em6 chords at the beginning of the gun-barrel. and the brass and wood wind stabs of minor/major 9th chords (basically a polychord of C minor and G major). Those dissonances help evoke that classic Barry sound.
Good luck.

And to think you got the whole orchestra to do that in your room just to post up on a fan site is very kind of you.

Its brilliant

I think your score warrants a film, really.

This is terrific stuff but to a non-musical music lover such as myself, it is both awe inspiring and confusing. I love the sound but I have no idea how you've created it! I assume that's part of the magic, but it SOUNDS like you have a full orchestra at your disposal. To write music for a film that doesn't exist and to pay and orchestra to play it just so you can post it on a forum would be folly of the highest order, so I'm assuming you've either played these instruments yourself (again, highly unlikely) or they're flawless samples manipulated with software. Could you explain, simply (short words...), how you're doing this? I don't know a treble cleft from my oboe so excuse the twattishness of this question.
And where else we can hear your work?
Thanks
Dan

Dan - I did play every instrument you hear, but not in the way you're thinking. I played / sequenced all of those instruments heard in that piece of music (and everything I do musicwise) on a dell inspiron laptop... everything you hear is 100% digital and was played via a keyboard hooked to an external soundcard. However, the sounds don't come from the keyboard... they come from various instrument sample libraries that contain gigabytes upon gigabytes of individual instruments which were sampled and when loaded are chromatically playable via a keyboard. If you're curious to know more, google "software sampling" and/or digital music creation... you'll find a wealth of info on the subject.

I hope you have plenty of work. It would be interesting to hear someone with your talent and techniques rescore DR NO, LICENCE TO KILL or G*OLDENE*E, films that have scores that impact the overall effectiveness of the film. Specifically LTK which has no score over the tanker chase. I know not playing music is as important as playing it, but that scenes strikes me as a tiny bit at odds with the rest of the movie (when music does appear toward the end, it's bits repeated from earlier in the movie). Can I plant the seed in your mind? Either new material or something akin to the rest of the score?
Just an idea. And I understand it's not something you can just pull out your backside!

I've actually recently did a new score (and did an all new sound design pass) for the entire goldeneye pre-titles sequence.

Also, the cue from 5:11 on sounds a lot like this, don't you think?

Fantastic as ever, Rich, but the guitar still sounds fake, I'm afraid; I know it's a synth-guitar, but everything else sounds remarkably realistic, so why not this?

That video was terrible. Like a dodgy parody of David Arnold, no recognisable melodic texture or harmony, just Arnoldisms.

As much as I detest parts of Serra's GE score, I've always thought the way they approached that little bit of the antenna confrontation was rather well done. Perhaps insofar as the absence of score at various points heightened the danger level.

When it comes to reinvigorating the classic Barry Bond sound, I guess you've got a licence renewed. Could even win a Tony.
Keep up the good work.
Can't wait for the finished result of all the efforts

I'm seriously considering changing my mind and saying that you should take over for David Arnold now. I think your style is closer to John Barry's then Arnolds. Keep adding to that Bond portfolio on your website, its wonderful!!

Not quite; Lloyd only uses the Bond theme once, in the final moment where Bond kicks Trevelyan off the tower (Arnold used the Bond theme all the time in the Brosnan scores, remember?)... but would you just listen to the music from 0:30 on and see how incredibly similar it is?That video was terrible. Like a dodgy parody of David Arnold, no recognisable melodic texture or harmony, just Arnoldisms.Fantastic as ever, Rich, but the guitar still sounds fake, I'm afraid; I know it's a synth-guitar, but everything else sounds remarkably realistic, so why not this?

The guitar still sounds just fine to me... just because it's not tinny like guitar work in previous bond scores doesn't make it sound fake.

A question from the technically challenged. My iPod won't recognize .mpga files. Is there a way I can save your music downloads so that I can enjoy them on my iPod? I tried to find a converter online with no luck. thanks
