Why, for god sake. We now that some Bond movies are associated with the Olympics? FYEO heavily! But why do we see olympic rings on the suits of the henchmen. Although, when Guan Antonio Samaranch was still chairman of the Olympic Comitee, it was, bloody hell, a very corrupt organisation. ;-)

Why olympic rings on the henchmen's suits?

My guess is that the Winter Olympics were held in Europe in early 1968. I can't remember if it was in France or where, but it may have been that the people still had Olympic fever, or maybe had too many coats left over and Saltzman and Broccoli got a good deal on them.

In OHMSS,on the basis that the film involves chemical labs and skiers, I'd say that the use of the symbol was entirely appropriate.

Maybe Blofeld hired the entire Deutsche alpine ski team as guards. Or he was tired of the corny bright jumpsuits that his Japanese guards had worn. But he reverted to that same tailor for his American oil-rig guards.

This is a good question. I've always noticed this, but I never thought to ask the question.

Perhaps the jackets were on sale.
Sorry to dig up this old thread but I was just wondering the same thing.

I've always presumed that the henchmen's ski suits were off the rack and were probably the 1968 Olympics promotion editions. Can't very well have SPECTRE ghosts embrodered on the breast or have SPECTRE ghosts on the zippers can we?
I was curious if On Her Majesty's Secret Service was made before Willy Bogner had his line of ski clothing or he was already selling a line of ski clothing. Could James Bond and the baddies be wearing Bogner? I'll look to see if there is B on the zipper the next time I watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

PS-- It looks like from the Bogner company website that Willy Bogner Senior was the manufacturer of ski wear and that Bogner first outfitted the German Olympic Team with ski blouses in 1936.
Could the henchmen's jackets be considered Bogner product placement?
I wonder if the other Blofeld's Cat would know why the Olympic rings appear on the ski jackets?

If I remember correctly Lazenby told Harry Saltzman and Cubby Broccoli that he competed in the 1964 Olympics on the Australian National team, which is why they used thse symbols as a sort of homage to that.
Supposedly this was said later on to have been a lie by Lazenby, yet that he did in fact have amateur skiing championships.
Some Australian sources said he was on the Olympic team but the Olympic team didn't list him.
Either way the New York press ate Lazenby alive for this like everything else, this is based on my memory from that time so it's all a bit subjective mind you.
