Please enlighten me the "real" fact of why Maud Adams was cast again as Octopussy in OP? She looked good as Andrea in TMWTGG but quite "mature" in OP. What was the "real" reason why Cubby cast her again as OP?
It would have been a better movie (yes, I do think it is a good one) with some new actress like Kathleen Turner (hot off Body Heat) as OP.
Was she really friendly with Glen, Cubby, the casting director, or just a damn talented actress (whose talent most couldn't recognize)?

I would think b/c she was closer to Moore's age, after Carole Bouquet, being way too young (24 to 52; 28 years) for him in FYEO...Adams was 38 in OP/Moore was 54 (16 years). Still a huge gap though.

Good point about the age thing. Though werent there any other good actresses in their 30s who could have carried this off better? Michelle Pfeiffer would have been much younger but would have made a kick :( OP...

I think I recall reading somewhere that someone (it may have been Dana Broccoli) ran into Maude Adams and they decided to use her to read the part while they were auditioning other parts to play opposite OP. They were impressed with her reading for the part they decided to cast her.

You two are correct from what I remember. Plus, she got along real well with Roger Moore (but that may have been more from her Octopussy experience rather than from her The Man With The Golden Gun stint).

Personally, I don't like actors playing different roles in the series such as Maud Adams, Charles Gray, and Joe Don Baker. As a result, I would have rather seen Persis Khambatta play the role of Octopussy. She's dark and mysterious and Indian, all of which would have fit with the character as well as the film's setting.

Yes, she can be seen on the OP DVD doing the screentest with James Brolin!

I think Maud became good friends of Cubby and Roger after TMWTGG. She was part of the Bond family in a way. When Octopussy rolled around, she was the right age (Octopussy needed to be older than her flock), still looked fabulous, and had good personal chemistry with Roger. I don't think it really mattered to them that she was in a past Bond. She was perfect for the part of and got it (and I'm glad she did).

EDIT: Just read the above posts... Yes, that's right, she helped them out in the tests. As I said, she was part of the "family."

So then, does anyone have an explanation for Joe Don Baker returning for GE/TND after playing a villain in TLD?

My explanation for Joe Don Baker returning was he was known to the Broccoli's and also worked with Martin Campbell on Edge of Darkness. Bond films love familiarity.

I loved Maud Adams in OP, she did a great job. I've never really thought about anyone else doing that role to be honest. The script in places was a bit thin, but she and Moore make it work.

She was just perfect for the role so I guess that's the main reason.

Another explanation (which I doubt): Maybe they wanted some connection to previous EON films, with NSNA around the corner.

IMO, no other Bond girl had that kind of chemistry with Moore during his tenure. Maybe the age thing, I dunno. But it was great in OP.

Come to think of it. Which other girl had great chemistry with Moore?

Barbara Bach? No
Jane Seymour ?No
Britt Ekland? No
Lois Chiles ? No
Carole Bouquet ? A BIG NO
Tanya Roberts ? Nope
