Goldeneye - Ace of Base's The Juvenile?

I ran across a piece of trivia concerning Goldeneye, where it was said that the group Ace of Base had made the theme song, but were afterwards refused. The rewrote the lyrics and added it to one of their albums
I still prefer the Bono-written, Tina Turner-sung Goldeneye song, but considering that Ace of Base are far, far away from being my proverbial cup of tea, I actually don't think that their version didn't come out that bad. Well, at least it certainly is Bondian.
Not as sexy and mysterious as the Tina Turne version, but here is a link:
The video itself is fan-made, and you'll have to replace the word "juvenile" with "Goldeneye" in your mind's eye, but this song did come above my expectations and, at least, it is "Bondian" (I do prefer this one to Madonna's and Sheryl Crow's).

Know about other videos such as this one that I can find on you tube that feature other rejected Bond themes?

I already came across Alice Cooper's TMWTGG. Still prefer's Lulu's version.
Also of that band that was rejected for TND. Still think that Sheryl Crow's the lesser of two evils here.
And the intruments in The Juvenile actually sound more Bondian, IMO, more powerful. Their Original Goldeneye song feels a great deal more bland.
Cheers.

For those fans who enjoy trivia and what ifs...

I think EON's record of rejecting inferior submissions stays intact. Blondie's version wasn't as good as Sheena Easton's. Lulu's was better than Alice Cooper, and Tina Turner's version was better than this awful Ace of Bass crap. AoB was modestly successful at putting out dance tracks that didn't strain the singer's range, but AoB didn't have the punch to do a dramatic Bond song. Turner's was better, but I still wish EON had gotten to U2 6 months sooner, and maybe "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" would've been Goldeneye's theme song instead of Batman Forever's.
Oh, and I shudder to think of how bad the rejections for DAD were if Madonna's was the best of the lot.
If memory serves me right Arnold had written a Bond track with Don Black called I will Return and I believe did a demo of You know my name later to be re-written and used for CR.Arnold had also wrote a far superior version of Tomorrow Never Dies.

But that's a matter of incredibly personal taste. Except for LALD, TMWTGG & AVTAK, I don't really like most of the Bond songs of the Moore Era (fun as those movies are - although literally turning Bond into a clow in OP was still crossing the line IMO). I find them... (..thinking of a proper term that won't insult another's musical taste...), well, I'll say "bland", too tame and romantic, without that punch/rhythm which I usually associate with Bond.
BUT, I'm the only Bond fan in this unfair Earth

No kiding. I can't believe they gave her a cameo in it too...ugh
But I do like Madonna's DAD to Chris' You Know My Name...I can't stand that song and I'm glad it was left off the score. (Please tell me there are others that didn't like CC's song...I'd hate to be outcast over something as ridiculous as that song...)

Speaking of Batman Forever snatching potential Bond songs, I think Seal's Kiss from a Rose would have also made a good one.Turner's was better, but I still wish EON had gotten to U2 6 months sooner, and maybe "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" would've been Goldeneye's theme song instead of Batman Forever's.

I love "You know my name" although I remeber that the first time I sat in the cinema to watch CR and that song bursted though my eardrums I was completely shocked. I had grown used to not liking the Bond songs after the great Tina Turner GE theme. And having a male singer, with completely different credits that weren't trying to imitate its predecessors, it was a wave of shock that just rolled at me. ANd I do love the song and the credits.
But there is absolutely nothing wrong in disliking the song. We Bond fans should never act like a hive mind.

Way better than Tina Turner's version, and suits the film far better. I think the same about Alice Cooper's TMWTGG, Blondie's FYEO, and k.d. lang's Surrender, although I do prefer Thunderball to Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.

..and they should have replaced the word "Batman" from the 1960's TV show theme with "James Bond!"

Here's the actual demo, paired with the GoldenEye credits:

Bondian, but mediocre. Turner’s ‘Goldeneye’ is far superior even with the ‘borrowing’ from ‘Goldfinger’.

Absolutely agree, especially as EON actually brought in the entire HOLD ME THRILL ME crew to recreate the magic for Tina's song (U2, Hooper, Armstrong, DeVries). It's completely heartbreaking.
