So, I'm nearing the end of my first Saint dvd - box (the color series) and I've read somewhere that Roger planned on producing a new Saint tv - series sometime during the early 90's.

If the project would've come to fruition, how do you think Pierce would've managed in the role and how do you think he'd have played the role? Also, would it be possible, that if he would've been in the role of Simon Templar before he was Bond, that we would view him differently in the Bond movies.

I , myself think that Pierce is closest match to Roger in the acting department, and he carries himself similarly in the movies ; being all smooth and suave. So I came to a conclusion that he would have played it similarly as Moore, like he did in his Bond movies, and if the scripts were good, we would've had a very good continuation to the 60's 'The Saint' series.

Also, I would probably view Pierce more warmly if he had done The Saint few years apart Bond. I can honestly say that after revising Roger's Saint again , I've come to respect him as Bond even more. You can see hints of his Bond in the Saint, but the comedy is more toned down. But it similarly gives you the idea of how his Bond would've been, had he played it more like he played Simon Templar. But at the same time I also appreciate the differences in the two very similar roles, that Roger Moore played. I think, and this is only speculation since the 90's series got never made, that I'd appreciate and view Brosnan similarly, appreciating the differences and similarities , when viewing his Bond movies.

What do you, the fine people think? Opinions. Here we hear them all. Fire em' when ready. But don't fire me.

I believe Pierce would’ve been a better Simon Templar than he was a James Bond, and that is in no way knocking his James Bond. When Brozzers was still playing Remington Steele and his name was first being tossed about for Bond, I said that I thought he’d be better as The Saint. It’s just a different kind of swagger.

Brosnan would have made a good Simon Templar but he would have been an even better Bruce Wayne!

Personally, I think Brosnan has a demeanour which is slightly too self-aggrandising for Templar.

I also imagine if he had played Templar in the late 80s as was considered at one point it would have prevented him from being seriously considered as Bond in the 90s in much the same way I doubt Ogilvy was ever seriously/extensively considered.

Actually it was a Saint film that Roger was going to produce in the late '80s that Pierce was considered for.

Had it come about, and been successful enough to lead to a few sequels, while Dalton played Bond, it would've been interesting to see if Eon would've approached Brosnan after Dalton stepped down. It would've been the second time in history that you had the same actor playing both Templar & Bond.

As I've pointed out in 2 other threads, Ogilvy was considered but they felt he would be too similar to Roger and they didn't want to follow Roger's Bond with another Roger.

Yeah, the Son of the Saint film.

No.

The son of the Saint has only ever been seriously considered on two occasions and this wasn't one of them.

Bob Baker and Roger Moore wanted to produce a series of period Saint films set in the 1930s and 40s. The scripts were written and Brosnan was all but cast, unfortunately they couldn't secure the financing to bring it to fruition.

Which is a major shame, for the scripts are excellent and at the time Brosnan was ideally suited to the role.

In my ideal fantasy world, Brosnan would have done a series of Saint films and Dalton would have continued as Bond.

There was a time when I was all for this idea, but now I think its best for Brosnan to move on to other things. Just look at the box office for Mamma Mia. :( I maybe wrong, but is this not the highest box office number for a former Bond?

This sounds a great idea taking the Saint back to his original period I would have loved to have seen that- shame about the funding

I elaborate on them in my book about the Saint on TV--which should hopefully be out next year. I have copies of them but can't share them as one of the stories might yet see the light of day.

I've been looking forward to this book since I first heard about it but now I'm practically salivating! This book can't come out soon enough.
