Moviefone have decided that Auric Goldfinger comes 7th in the best movie villains of all time. Here is the full list:-

http://www.starpulse..._movie_villain_

1. Lord Voldemort, Harry Potter - Ralph Fiennes
2. Darth Vader, Star Wars -James Earl Jones
3. Darth Vader, Star Wars- Hayden Christensen
4. Wicked Witch Of The West, The Wizard Of Oz - Margaret Hamilton
5. Hannibal Lecter, Silence Of The Lambs - Anthony Hopkins
6. The Joker, The Dark Knight - Heath Ledger
7. Auric Goldfinger, Goldfinger - Gert Frobe
8. Anton Chigurgh, No Country For Old Men - Javier Bardem
9. Hans Gruber, Die Hard - Alan Rickman
10. Queen, Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs - Lucille La Verne.

Hmm, for a start, I'd disagree with that list because most of the mystique around Voldemort as a villainous character comes from the books rather than Fiennes' interpretation. To have him at #1 seems ludicrous to me.

Hans Gruber, from Die Hard, one of the 10 best movie villain ever? A tad overrated, IMO!

Given that most people have not had a chance to see the film, I would need to wait on that one. I would vote for Jack's version however.

I would have added HAL from 2001: A Space Odyssey into that list.

One of the all-time great villains.

Lame. I disagree with them on eight of ten counts (all but Hannibal Lecter and the original Darth Vader). Well, six, since I haven't seen The Dark Knight (obviously) or No Country For Old Men.

Amazing that Heath Ledger is so good people don't have to see him to know it. Also amazing that 2008 gave us two of the best villains ever, apparently.

Oh, and these lines are priceless: "He is the most powerful dark wizard to ever wave a wand." Wow, impressive. Now what about the people who are most powerful in other fictional universes?

"What's more, he schemes to dominate the whole world." How novel a concept for movie villains.

Myself, I would include HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey, Jaws, the Xenomorph from the first Alien movie, Predator, and Terminator (maybe even T-1000 as well).

Of course we don't need to know it...its been beaten over our heads for the last six months that Ledger is not only the best villain ever, but the best performance ever in the history of anything. In fact, nobody is ever going to try to act again, in anything, ever, because they can't top Heath Ledger. Or something.

Having Voldemort placed at number one is a farce, the youngsters must have spammed this vote. I agree with the James Earl Jones Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Goldfinger and Hans Gruber selections. Ledger as The Joker is fantastic, he deserves a place in that list in my opinion. He transcends the comic book medium and becomes a villain in his own right, while still remaining true to what the character is all about.

Oscar.

I agree with the James Earl Jones Darth Vader, Hannibal Lecter, Goldfinger and Hans Gruber selections.

Even as a Bond fan, I have to say Goldfinger is nothing more than an iconic Bond villain. That doesn't make him one of the best overall movie villains. Within the Bond universe, I'd think Blofeld would make more sense anyway, although I'm sure the schizophrenia of his depictions is what hurts him.

My favourite Bond villain is Blofeld from FRWL. Just a voice, hands stroking a cat, a quick shot showing he has hair, and the fear in the eyes of Klebb and Kronsteen.

Goldfinger is a formidable villain. Nasty guy (he kills little girls, you know), audacious plan. Honestly, the only reason he fails is because Bond sexually won over Pussy Galore. That doesn't happen, Bond is dead, 50,000 men are dead, economic chaos throughout the world.

That list is absurd. Obviously put together by thriteen year olds.
Greatest villain of all - someone you sure wouldn't want to meet - are the two hillbillies from DELIVERANCE. Not a speck of humanity in those two.

I wouldn't even place his version on the list. I found it too over-the-top for my tastes.

I find myself agreeing much more with those characters featured on AFI's list of 100 Heroes and Villains from 2003, although Goldfinger only features at #49. Bond himself features at #3 on the heroes list though.

Goldfinger is well remembered as a great villian because of one great line "No Mr. Bond...I expect you to DIE!"

Really, the creepiest villian in the Bond series is Rosa Klebb.

What kind of list puts the Dark Lord on #1?

I think that Goldfinger is a much better villian than Darth Vader of Episode III.

What an incredibly odd list. I personally can't see how Voldemort deserves to be anywhere near the top ten (yes, yes, the films are megabucks and so on, but honestly...). Same goes for Hayden Christensen's Darth Vader ... ???

Voldemort is a kiddies choice. As is Haydn Christenson.

For fun I would have put Alan Rickmans turn as the Sherriff of Nottigham and Sydney Greenstreet did a mean set of villains.

But no, it has to be 2008 doesnt it?

LOL, yes.

Hollywood gets all its villain names from 1980's British sitcoms!!
