I was looking through the bloopers of The World Is Not Enough and it says:

X-ray glasses used by Bond in the casino are scientificly impossible, as there would need to be an x-ray reflector on the other side of whatever Bond is looking at to reflect the x-rays back.

I was also thinking that as X-rays can pass through your body except your bones, how come in the move only the people's weapons and undergarmets were visible to Bond but not the skeletal system? What would you call those types of glasses if that's only what they can do? I know it's not Thermographic vision.

I would call them movie magic glasses.

Actually, there is a device called a backscatter X-ray that I believe produces an effect similar to the X-Ray glasses. Also, I believe the original Sony DV camcorders with the active infrared assist had a "bug" where, if the infrared mode was invoked in normal lighting, it also produced an effect of 'unwrapping' the person being viewed (current models disable this feature in daylight). I believe that either method would be viable.

Well, backscatter x-ray would produce an image with some similarities to what is presented by the TWINE xray glasses... although you'd completely lose all of the other detail...

But you need a machine that is about 8 feet tall, 4 feet wide, and over a foot deep... and a person standing very still, directly in front of it... anything smaller and you can't collect the 'backscattered' xrays well enough to produce any sort of image...

So clearly this technology is not anywhere near feasible for such 'x-ray' glasses...

I'm not familiar with the Sony DV issue, so I can't comment on that...

I have also heard of the Sony DV bug, but I always thought that was an urban legend.

So there is such thing similar to that used in Bond's glasses! Speaking of it being impossible

And what about Bond's invisible car in Die Another Day? How do they make it appear/dissapear? (I know it is the computer graphics but how exactly?)

You want an explanation from the movie? The car has thousands of tiny cameras that photograph the background and display it on the car, thus giving the illusion that it's invisible. This technology exists but it only really functions if you're looking at it from a distance (ie: tank in the distance, jet plane), not if you're right next to the car.

Oh, like the blue/green screen used to create the effect of a moving background (sky for example) when in fact the person is on the floor in a false object.

I'm pretty sure they were talking about introducing something like this for airport security. I remember the talk was about them being able to see you naked.

Wouldn't they be called MRI vision glasses. Like in GOLDENEYE: ROGUE AGENT where you can see the complete shape of a person through walls?
