From the IMDB celebrity news:

Hunky 007 star Pierce Brosnan once thought he might be gay - but was relieved when he realized he was indeed heterosexual. In his biography, Brosnan recalls how as a shy 16-year-old he felt insecure about his sexual orientation. He says, "I was young, frivolous and full of abandon - a hippie with long hair down to my shoulders and a little goatee beard. Why? because I thought I was gay. But no, I'm not gay." The action man's former school friends had no idea of Brosnan's worries. One says, "He wasn't the least bit athletic. I'd say he was naturally artistic. If he did question his sexual orientation, he never let on." But a former girlfriend of the Irish star, Rebecca McKenzie, who moved in with him when he was 21, says he was hardly a legendary lover. "I don't think he was a 'man of the world' when I met him. I got the impression he hadn't had many girlfriends. He certainly was no Don Juan."

They really have nothing better to do then report stuff like this!

This girlfriend implies it is a bad thing he wasn't a Don Juan. I think it is sweet. Gay or straight he is still very nice to look at, and him being straight means nothing to me....even when he was available, Pierce was unattainable for me. (My mother would mow me over before letting me get a moment with him!)

But don't you think it's great someone like him will come out with that kind of personal story? Perhaps in some small way he's making life easier for younger fans who may be experiencing the same confusion.

Roebuck, I agree it could make life easier for some younger fans because really it's not an uncommon experience even though some think it is when it's them. Just as when public figures "come out" it makes it easier for some young people to realize they aren't alone. Of course discussion of the subject would be of more help if most all the press headlines weren't so wink wink nudge nudge.... oooh isn't this scandalous, it makes it look like something to be ashamed of, which isn't very helpful at all.

But PB really didn't divulge this for the bio, it's unauthorized, it's something he told someone else (I don't know know when or in what context) who then told the writer. It's also something that was in the first version of this same bio over 5 years ago, so why the press is acting as if it's news is rather puzzling.

There was an interesting article he did for Movieline back in 1995 and the interviewer was speaking to him about being handpicked by Tennessee Williams for his play (back in the 70's) and his telegram "Thank God for you Dear Boy, Love Tennessee", and asking him how he took that knowing Williams' fondness for handsome young men. PB said he took it in all possible ways including that he was such a brilliant actor :) ... that he knew about Tenessee, that he knows alot of gay people, and that he has no fear about someone coming on to him, he just says thanks but no thanks, he's not into that. Pretty sensible.

Xen, I don't know if the old girlfriend implies that his not being a Don Juan wasn't a good thing (or maybe she does). It's something PB's said on more than one occassion. It's one of the reason's Cassandra Harris's nephew said he introduced him to her, that he never knew PB to have more than one girlfriend at a time and treat them with anything but respect and he thought Pierce would be great for Cassie who'd been hurt a lot by men (including his uncle).

All in all hardly groundbreaking stuff. But hey York Membery is trying to sell his book, sex sells, and the press are obliging with some free publicity. :)

On yet another rambling superfluous note, I love the new jacket photo from TCA, the only reason I might buy the book. :)

I'd say that since it is unauthorized...stealing the cover is perfectly fine. Or, as the case applies, should I say steeleing it?

This is interesting news. Although I can understand why he would think that. With the kids at school making fun of his Irish accent, his artistic ability and his parents leaving him, I suppose one would feel that way. Good for Mr. Brosnan for showing people like that they aren't alone. Although I'm still laughing at the notion of James Bond having a goatee and long hair.

Totally agree Roebuck... nice to see the Pierce helping the world to dispell what I like to called "the myth of masculinity". Anyone can experiment with their sexuality... you decide... and if you end up as james Bond then good on you!

It's interesting this and the news about Rupert Everett came out at the same time.

Naturally, the way things are they picked up on this juicy tidbit because it brings a National Enquirer/Jerry Springer-like atmosphere to selling what is probably another cheesy biography.

I laughed when I read the ex-girlfriend's comment. If this is the best they could do for sources this book should go on the bargain table right now. Wouldn't she just love to be by his side now?

If someone would like to contribute to the miseducation of MBE and I by sending us the book...that would be fine with me. ;-)

As for PB making folks feel less alone...every time I hear he has hurt himself again, God help me, I can only smile and say, "Thank God I am not the biggest spaz on the planet."

Considering how many teenage fans Bond films have it's really a good thing that they know that the man who embodies their hero went through the same problem as they do. But it's sad that there's still so much intolerance in this world that tabloids have to make it sound like something bad one should be ashamed of.
I salute Pierce for his sensitivity on the matter!

Pierce is a human being and we all, no matter our station in life, have questions about ourselves at some point in our lives. That is only natural and normal. As for that former girlfriend I bet she wishes she was still with him. I salute Pierce for his honesty. Have a great day!!!
