Do some? Yes.
Die Another Day was the most recent film for a long while on the CBn Forums, and one of the most disliked (even by Brosnan Bond fans). I think that's why the hatred/dislike sometimes seems more apparent than it really is.

To be honest though, I don't think he gets bashed anymore or less than the other Bonds...Craig has his fair share, and his movie isnt even out yet.

But as Bond, yes. All wrong for the part, IMO.
Had the films been good, it would have helped his cause.
Unfortunately, they are the bottom four on my list.
But there are seventeen other films for me to watch, and about half of them are great, so I don

He wasn't very well served with films, though, and his departure was a bitter one-way mud fight.
At the end of the day he's the third most prolific actor of the franchise , and will probably remain there for quite a while (ahead of Lazenby, Dalton and Craig if he only does three).

You just have to keep in mind Brosnan was Bond for ten years (singed in '94 I believe, officially out circa '04), and has been Bond in the minds of many for twenty years now. An entire generation has grown up on his movies alone, as his era has been flanked by a 6.5 year gap on one side and a 4 year one on the other. Plus, he's the most recent. It's no wonder he's been given so much scrutiny, or that Die Another Day comes up as frequently as it does. Everything will start changing come November, and by decade's close I'm sure Craig will get more mention, for better or worse.

Qwerty nailed it. Although I am as guilty as anyone of popping in my DAD dvd and watching it every now and then.Does everyone? No.
Do some? Yes.

The anti-Brosnan sentiment almost seems to be an ongoing joke here on CBn. I try to defend all the criticism of GE TND and TWINE, but theres really no defending that dialogue in DAD, imo. Certain parts of the film are a laughfest (whether intended to be so or not).
It also doesn't help that the terribly unpopular CraignotBond people are notoriously pro-Brosnan.
Bros is my favorite because I've grown up with him as Bond and even though he is the most recent I always compare everyone to him...instead of him to everyone else.
On a side note, I can't wait to see Craig next month!

Is he Connery? No.
Is he Fleming's Bond? Certainly not.
Yet he still retains, IMO, a coolness that none of the other Bonds had. Take DAD for instance. Yes, it wasn't the best of Bond movies, but Brosnan was at his coolest and most comfortable in it. When he walks into the Cuban clinic by climbing through the window, his "buenos dias" (pardon my spelling) is priceless. None of the other 4 actors could match his "oh, they left ages ago" line.
My feeling is that the ONLY reason he is being bashed so much is because it is the transition between Bonds, at which point people tend to "hate" (sorry for such a strong word) the previous Bond actor. I'm sure Rog went through the same thing right before TLD, and Laz right before DAF. But years later, fans have now embraced both of them, giving them each a nice following. When Craig finishes his 3, he will be bashed and it will be Brosnan whom is praised. Just wait and see.

I think Brosnan had a cool toughness about him that fit the roll well (for example the PTS in TWINE). He was very classy as Bond. I blame the crummy one liners on the scripts and not on Brosnan. He is a better actor than some give him credit for (watch him in Evelyn or Matador for example).
I would very much liked to have seen him back in a 5th Bond film - and this time a PROPER Bond film (i.e. grittier and more down to earth - more old school - no/little CGI and overthetop invisible cars or Jinx type character).
Nevertheless, the think Craig is bringing something new and fresh to the role.

thats cool guys i was just wondering, i haven't been a memeber to this forum for that long. Pierce was the bond that got me into the series like i said with goldeneye.
I'm the same JWM, he's my favourite and I'm a little scared of liking Daniel Craig too much.
I'll always be a Pierce man, even if he doesn't stay my favourite, his films will always be very special to me and I will always love his work.

Anyway, I think PB did a great job in keeping the series going & growing a new fan base for the films - and for that he should be respected.
Good post - Thanks!

i got just one question. Does everyone on this forum hate pierce bronsan? I came along late in bond so my first film was goldeneye and that was what got me hooked. Look bronsan wasn't the best imo, but he was not that bad? I have since seen all of the films and love them all and all the actors. My favorite bond is roger moore, but pierce is the one that got me hooked on bond. I maybe basis hear but i want to know what you guys think.
As a Roger fan, imagine what you'd encounter if you were the same age you are now, in a 1975 ripe with internet technology. The bashing Pierce gets on here, and it's a lot, would pale in comparison to the ball-beating Roger would have taken under this scenario.
It will fade some over time. But there will always be bashing. It's human nature, apparently.
In any event, there are many CBn'ers who don't loathe Brosnan, and in fact many, who don't feel ill will toward any of the Bond actors. But these voices tend not to be as loud as the angry ones.

[mra]Pierce is great. He was a great James Bond. Loved all of his Bond films and I wish he got to do a fifth.
However, I would rather that fifth had not been Casino Royale. I

I disagree with that. I think it was James Bond who revitalized the series, meaning many an actor could have taken Brosnan's place in GoldenEye, even Dalton himself. It was the first Bond movie in many years, a different kind of Bond movie for a new era, and was released in a different cinematic climate than those before. It was bound to be a hit.All right, Mr. *. Without him revitalizing the series post-Tim, we might not have Bond anymore.
Unless you're talking quality of performance, in which case that's fair enough (although I'd still disagree and say it was Dalton who truly revitalized Bond in that regard).

I just didn't care for his interpretation of the role very much - As I said before, he's a likeable actor, but he's also limited, and some of his quirks really bugged me as the films went on (pumping his arms at head-level while running, biting his women, campy/cartoonish movement, etc). And I can't forgive the "Stockholm Syndrome" scene in TWINE, which might be the most anti-Bond moment that any actor's given in the whole series.
As someone said earlier, his era was flanked by a 5 year wait at the beginning and a 4 year one at the end, making his time as Bond much more visible and fresh in the minds of Bond fans, for better and for worse.

Also as you mentioned Vanish, his cartoonish movements. I especially hated how he grit his teeth while being strangled (both in TND, and TWINE) it just didnt look very real.

Pierce Brosnan was born in 1953.
Born to play Bond!
