Does anyone remember "If there was a man" performed by Chrissie Hynde?
For me that was the real Title-song for "The Living Daylights"!
Not that I don't like the song performed by AHA, but I think "ITWAM" is just a bit stronger and has just that thing that makes it a real Bond-title song. I'm I alone with my opinion here? 'Cause the song is never mentioned in polls nor can you find it on any of the Bond-collection cd's :)

It is a wonderful song.

A nice love theme compliment to A-HA's rock theme.

The video is pretty cool too.

I adore this song. One of Barry's more beautiful melodies and Chrissie Hynde's voice is perfect. Bondian without being a pastiche. Ushered in the era of the End Title song which was a blessing considering Surrender, Only Myself To Blame etc.

I agree, doublenoughtspy, nice simple effective video.

I'll add my praise as well. I enjoy this song at the end of the film, it just seems to click perfectly with Dalton's Bond and Kara Milovy.

Ditto. It's a great 'end' theme. :)

Definitely. I also like their other contribution to the film: 'Where Has Everybody Gone?'

I just found the video on You Tube, a great video for a even greater song.

Wonder why that wasn't included on the The Living Daylights DVD.

Yeah. And what great themes these were as well. Got to be the first time that any group has more than one theme in a film?. (I ask you because you're younger and more virile than myself :P

Cool. Thanks very much for sharing. :)

I used to work backstage in a number 2 theatre here in Southend-On-Sea (The Cliffs Pavilion). I worked in the bar (handy for chatting up Producers and Directors), and saw many-a concert with Annie Lennox. I would of swapped at least one to her concerts for this incredible vocalist. Actually. They're very similar. It's unfortunate that I ended up working backstage. We were released from duty when the concerts were on. But on occasion, I got to work the 'limes'.

Cheers,

Ian

Indeed, listened to the soundtrack again, and Where has everybody gone? should have been the title-track!

"Where has everybody gone" is aggresive but still with the classic Bond sound (not as YKMN...) and, altough its not perfect, the song is far more enjoyable than the actual title theme. "If there was a man" is even better and should've been the main song for TLD, IMO.

BTW, what other Bondfilm had 3 original songs?

Always loved that song and, of course, the melody which is one of Barry

If you count 'Stand By Your Man,' GoldenEye has three.

LTK - had 4!

Well, Stand By Your Man is not an original song.

BTW "If There Was A Man" was initially announced as "Where Have I Seen You?" but the lyrics were re-written and the title changed.

"If There Was A Man" is probably my faves of any Bond music. I think it ranks up there with "For Your Eyes Only" as one of the prettiest melodies of any Bond song.

Certainly TD's two Bond films had excellent songs for their credits - If There Was A Man for TLD and If You Asked Me To in LTK. ITWAM is the slightly better of the two IMO. I've never been too keen on Where Has Everybody Gone? It works better as an instrumental IMO.

For the record, I think the best end credit songs/music are:

Surrender - TND
ITWAM - TLD
IYAMT - LTK
Bond theme - CR
FRWL by Matt Munro - FRWL
MR Disco - MR
WHATTITW/Bond theme - OHMSS
