Vaughn and Connolly had ideas for shooting Layer Cake 2 next year. The kernel for the script was Morty was diagnosed with cancer, and induces XXXX (who recovers from being shot by Sidney) to unretire for one last score in Morty's birthplace in Jamaica...

It was the first Layer Cake which made Daniel Craig a great choice for Bond in my eyes.

A lot of it depends on how soon shooting for the next Bond movie (after Casino Royale) begins.
My thinking as well.

why didn't you like Layer Cake?
I thought it was proof a stylish, inventive thriller could be made without a Hollywood "important picture" budget...

It just didn't grab my attention at all. The opening monologue with Craig was great, but after that, it was boring, poorly directed, and really just didn't do much for me. I had heard rave reviews for the film before I got it (as it arrived much later in the US than in the UK and elsewhere), and I was hyped up to see it (and to see how Craig was in it), but the film disappointed me on every level, and Craig was the only redeeming quality that I could take from it.

Uh... <possible spoiler alert> doesn't Mr. Craig character die at the end of Layer Cake, Part I?
You can't have your cake and eat it too, ya know.
Perhaps it would be a reboot.
Can't see why they'd want a sequel to it.

Almost seems like maybe they're just gonna make a sequel movie without a book.
Kind of like the Godfather sequels. I would love to see a sequel to Layer Cake. I kind of identify with the characters and story in some ways.

Sequel to Layer Cake? Bit pointless. The story was over and done with at the end. It was quite good, but a sequel would just be playing off Craig's Bond casting.

I'd like him to do another action/spy thriller role like he did in Munich but as the featured player. Maybe he could do a true story about an SAS or MI6 mission in Bosnia or the Afghanistan operations post 9-11...

Won't happen,
So sure are we? I think a sequel would be great, and if Vaughn was able to make the first on the cheap, I don't see why a sequel would be out of the question.

What I meant was: a LAYER CAKE/LONG GOOD FRIDAY crossover flick (i.e. the ALIEN VS. PREDATOR/FREDDY VS. JASON of low budget London gangland-set cult films) won't happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a LAYER CAKE followup, although I get the feeling that another Vaughn/Craig crime movie with a similar vibe would be more likely than LAYER CAKE 2 - a spiritual followup, if you will (rather like Mike Hodges did CROUPIER and later I'LL SLEEP WHEN I'M DEAD with Clive Owen), instead of a formal sequel.
I really wish that Craig and Vaughn would reteam on BOND 22, though.

...and Pierce Brosnan could reappear as the mute Irish assassin from Long Good Friday, I suppose? Oh, the possibilities......I'd love to see a LAYER CAKE/LONG GOOD FRIDAY crossover movie, in which Craig's xXx (or whatever he's called) crosses paths with Bob Hoskins' Harold Shand, in order to establish who's the guv'nor.
Even though I liked Layer Cake, a sequel isn't really necessary. Tend to think it would come off as extraordinarily cheap/desperate if Craig's XXXX character "wasn't really dead" and had to "come back for one last job." Snore. Wasn't XXXX supposed to be on his "last job" in Layer Cake? Can they really do anything else with the character?
Still, won't be at all surprised if it happens, or if Vaughn follows Guy Ritchie's (or, as it's been pointed out, Mike Hodges') example and does a companion Snatch film to Layer Cake's Lock, Stock featuring Craig.

Goes without saying, although he'd now be a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly, and in a highly symbolic scene would be killed by Craig's character.

I see. Rereading that it makes sense now, I just read it as you saying that Layer Cake 2 wouldnt happen. I don't see why Craig and Vaugn coudlnt team up for Bond 22 and also Layer Cake 2, in fact the more they work together I imagine the better the films will be.
