Could we regard Steve Martin as the Daniel Craig of Clouseau actors? An unpopular choice at first who some got used to and many continued to dislike?

But, just to be semantical, wasn't Ted Wass an unrelated character to Clouseau?

true, Wass's character wasn't related to Clouseau, but as i said, he was Clouseau-esque. that is, he was still the bumbling detective used to drive the plot, and they used a lot of the same jokes with him as they'd used with Clouseau. there were differences, but he wasn't THAT different, you kneou. But, just to be semantical, wasn't Ted Wass an unrelated character to Clouseau?

By the way Clouseau, what's up with your sig? You know MI6 isn't that popular around here.

but yeah, i agree that Dreyfus does a good parody of a Bond villain in TPPSA. i especially like the scene where he "tortures" the professor's daughter!

i can't help how popular MI6 is or isn't around here. i just happen to like it!

My favorite scene is the one where Clouseau "interrogates" the servants at the English country home. It always has me rolling with laughter.

Shawk: I'm Shawk trhe gardener
Clouseau: And what is it that you do?
Shawk: I'm the gardener!
Clouseau: Why didn't you say that in the first place?
Shawk: I did
Clouseau: Look, don't try to get funny with me!
LATER IN THE SCENE
Clouseau: Look, what was your name?
Shawk: Shawk
Couseau: The cook!
Shawk: The gardener
Clouseau: Arrrr.....now we are getting somewhere!
(After smashing a piano in a vain attempt to kill a bee)
Housekeeper: But that was a priceless Steinway (sp?)
Clouseau: Not anymore!
Clouseau "what is your name?"
Housekeeper "Mrs Leverlove!".
Clouseau "well Mrs Loveliver, I would take a short guess and say that you're the Housekeeper, am I right?"
Housekeeper "I've been with Mr Fastbender for over 30 years!!!".
Clouseau "that would account for your hysteria over a simple blemish on the furniture!".

...and from the same scene...Me: And... they were your fingerprints!
M.Ballon: Well, why not? It's my house. I've often been in that closet.
Me: For what reason?
Ballon: Last time was moths.
Me: "Meuths"?
Ballon: [very clearly] Moths!
Me: Yes, "meuths."
Ballon: Maria was complaining of "murths."
[frowns at himself]
Me: "Meurths"? Is that right, Maria, that - that you were complaining about these "meuths"?
Maria: Yes, I did complain about moths.
Me: Oh, you mean "meuths"!
the group interrogation at the end of The Return of the Pink Panther doesn't have as many long exchanges like that, but it's still a funny scene, with Col. Sharkey trying to kill everybody, and Dreyfus trying to kill me!Me: Uh... What was I saying? Uh... Listen, you, you daydreaming fool, what are you doing there? I mean, can't you pay attention when I'm talking? Don't know know what I was saying? You're not listening to me.
Maurice: With the greatest respect, monsieur, I heard every word that you said.
Me: Would you be kind enough to tell me what it was that I said?
Maurice: You were talking about the closet, monsieur...
Me: Uhhh, yes?
Maurice: You were saying that when the closet door was open, Maria received a bump on the head, and from that that you inferred that someone had been hiding in the closet, monsieur...
Me: Yes, she received a bump on - And, listen, monsieur, next time I may test you without warning!
classic stuff, all of it!Charles Lytton: (after Dreyfus stops shooting) He's out of ammunition.
Me: He's out of his mind! That's what he's out of!

i have all of them in my collection (except for the newest one, which hasn't yet been released on DVD - i can't be expected to own things before they come out, can i?!)

you know, another thing i should point out that these series have in common is that both series tend to use "pre-titles" sequences, which, to my knowledge, are not all that common.
also, the main theme songs have been changed and remixed multiple times over the years, but always tend to stay fairly true to the originals.
interesting stuff sometimes, no???

i'd really rather get back on topic, though, and leave it up to them to say something to me directly, rather than go on and on about it here and just make them mad, you kneou?
sorry for venting my frustration.

they're all semi-cheap to start with, i think. i know i picked up my copy of Return of the Pink Panther at Target for $9.99. Curse of the Pink Panther was also $9.99, i think, at Sam's Club. i couldn't find Inspector Clouseau or Son of the Pink Panther, either one, in stores, but i ordered them online for about the same price as those first two.Surely, I agree. Okay, back on topic. I recently watched Return of the Pink Panther, and loved it. Any idea where I can find the movies cheap?
The Pink Panther (1963), A Shot in the Dark, The Pink Panther Strikes Again, Revenge of the Pink Panther, and Trail of the Pink Panther are all together in a box set, i found. it's $40 at Wal Mart, which comes out to just under $8 per film for those 5. not a bad deal.

not that i'm aware of. the only other thing i could suggest is getting them used at Amazon or eBay. i know at Amazon, the 6-disc box set is being sold used for about $29. i dunno what it's going for on eBay. but for that little difference in the price, i'd probably rather pay the few extra $$ and get it new, you kneou?Yeah, I saw those. I found them on Half.com for 33. Was just wondering if there was anywhere cheaper is all

maybe you could settle for a red Smart Car.Guarantee they work, yeah. However, money's tight, ya understand. Unlike some, I can't afford an Aston Martin. (wish I could though.)

to an extent, perhaps. but then, looking at all the similarities between the two (as noted above), i'm not so seure! more like just the ridiculous side of Bond, rather than being fully anti-Bond, if you kneou what i mean.Just as the Pink Panther films should be considered the "Anti James Bond"?

"The Inspector" was another cartoon spin-off from the Pink Panther films in the 60s. like the "Pink Panther" cartoons, "The Inspector" was started as a series of short films that appeared in theaters prior to other films. and here's the Bond connection: the very first installment of "The Inspector" (entitled "The Great DeGaulle Stone Operation") was featured before original screenings of Thunderball in theaters!
