I'm probably going to publicly embarrass myself by saying that every time the famous "Casino Royale" torture scene comes up I've always wondered just what in the heck a carpet beater looks like.

I thought a few other vacuum using CBNers might have wondered too so... here you go!

Ah, thanks for that! You're certainly not the only one who would have difficulty in recognising a carpet beater.

But ooh...me plums! No wonder Dan the Man's not looking forward to shooting this scene.

I often thought of a carpet sweeper, which I know makes no sense, because I've never actually seen a carpet beater, until today!
This may be one of those scenes I close my eyes for..and I'm not even a guy!

Surely they're going to use something a tad more menacing? If they use THAT the audiences will roar with laughter!!

I cringed while reading that part of the book. And I'm a chick. I'm gonna hafta lend CR to a guy friend and watch their reactions...

EEK!

I remember reading CR for the first time when I was 13, and the carpetbeater made a great impression on me. I read it again a few years later and I crossed my legs to brace myself. And I'm a girl!

If someone had you stripped naked, tied to a seatless chair and then repeatedly whacked your twig and berries with it ... would you be laughing?

It's what Fleming wrote. Comedy gold, eh?

Arbogast, that carpet beater looks exactly like the one my mother used to use on carpets and rugs when I was growing up. Notice how I tried to write the shortest sentence possible after the word 'mother' just so none of you got the wrong idea there. Maybe there was only one company (Acme?) out there making them back then. I remember when I first read "CR" in my teen years and the torture scene came up. I had to cringe, because I knew exactly what a carpet beater looked like. Nasty, nasty piece of work.

Good thing it had a big loop. If it was smaller it might've gotten stuck on his willy.

If I was adapting the scene for the modern day, I'd have Bond stripped naked, strung up under a running shower, then have live electric cables applied to his genitals!
