True or not, considering the rumor that EON is crafting a new archvillain who will appear in more than one Bond film, I was wondering...who would you guys like to see appear in a Blofeld-like role?

I don't have any strong opinions about it, but I am interested in hearing yours.

Off the top of my head...

Ed Harris -- The Rock and History of Violence. Seems like his type of villain would not only be menacing, but more in-your-face and take charge. If he caught Bond, he'd shoot him, not give a long speech. I think he'd add a definite "real world" feel to the whole archvillain shtick, keeping in line with the supposed grittier feel of Casino Royale.

Benicio Del Toro -- would be interesting to see him "graduate" to the role of main villain.

Ken Watanabe -- since he really wasn't what he seemed to be in Batman Begins, a Bond movie would give him a chance to strut his stuff as a villain. Besides, it would get Bond back in Japan, which is something I definitely want to see!

Anthony Hopkins -- Well, one can dream, right?

Lee Tamahori -- Just kidding!

I wanted to suggest Gary Oldman, Alan Rickman, John Malkovich, Patrick Stewart and/or Willem Dafoe (who kinda already did it in EoN)-- but maybe those choices wouldn't seem "fresh," I dunno.

Watanabe and Hopkins would be excellent choices.

I'd still like to see Jean Reno.

Hopkins, although I doubt it will ever happen.

Watanabe should play Tiger Tanaka for Bond 22 which will be a combination of the unused Shatterhand story from YOLT and Benson's The Man with the red tattoo

that could be interesting. I'm not really all that interested in a "blofeld-type" villain, i personally feel that that type of character was used to great success already, and parodied to death ever since...

Sounds cool. Although I've always thought Sonny Chiba would make a great Tiger Tanaka. As Kill Bill, Vol. 1 shows -- he's still got it!

Ciaran Hinds would defninitely get my vote - look out for him as a future Bond villain (wouldn't have made a bad Le Chiffre actually either). Perfect choice.

I agree, especially after seeing his performance as Ducard in Batman Begins.

That would be a great idea. As long as said villain isn't bald or have a cat, then I don't think he would necessarilly come across as cliched.

Someone else I think could make a great contribution to a JB film is Oded Fehr. That man has style. However it may be a little too political to have an Arab as the baddie, awful though that we have to take that into account. Man, I'm on a roll today.

Perhaps instead of using Oded Fehr for a villain, they could use him as an ally for a future Bond film. They could easily cast him as a Mossad agent and he could fight the good fight alongside Bond and Leiter in Bond 23.

I want Benicio Del Toro or Christopher Walken in a bond movie... But it's just that I hate when "old" actors come back and play another character... Just hate it so yes but still no...

Other actors...

No bad ideas there. I'd like Sutherland in particular, as a villain.

My candidates, feel free to sound off on each. They are not order of preference, just order of when they popped into my head.

Julian Sands

David Warner

Arnold Vosloo

Zeljko Ivanek

Patrick Stewart

Ian McKellan

Paul Blackthorne

Hugo Weaving

Lambert Wilson

Udo Kier

(You'll notice alot of 24 villains on the list (Sands, Vosloo, Ivanek, and Blackthorne), but 24 is actually a pretty good training ground for Bond villainy, and most of these actors paid their villain dues before ever appearing on the show.)

Hugo Weaving would be great if his character were batspit insane. Something like Zorin or Carver. Completely off his rocker.

Ian McKellen - I think of Sir Ian as either Magneto from the X-Men movies or Richard III. McKellen knows how to play the baddies.

Lambert Wilson - Would love to see him as a main villain. Certain Americans are already demonizing France anyway, so why not exploit their mischaracterizations?

A few other ideas:

Christopher Plummer - If you really want a SPECTRE type of organization, there are few actors who could pull off the Blofeld type role.

Max von Sydow - Not only did he play Blofeld in the knockoff-Bond film Never Say Never Again, he played the most credible version of Blofeld to appear on screen.

Powers Booth - Imagine a more credible version of Brad Whitaker as head of SPECTRE.

I will apreciate a new Deus ex machina villain, like Blofeld was.

Someone we don't discover at least for 3 movies...

Max von Sydow was a great Blofeld - I totally agree on that. Probably the best.

Hinds was my choice for Le Chiffre and there's still a part of me that wishes he was cast in the role (although I'm sure Mads will do an excellent job).

How about both Sutherlands as father and son. Dr.Emil von Vil & his son Jack Emil von Vil ? j/k

But Ed Harris would be a great continuing Bond villain. He was great in the Rock.

I totally agree - he would have fit my idea of Le Chiffre like a hand in a glove. He'd do well as a Blofeld type villain as well.

Speaking of Hinds, does anyone know when the next seasone of Rome will start showing? He won't be in it, of course, but it's a pretty decent show.

Tom Cruise as a hitman belonging to a religious cult

LOL  Good idea, but perhaps a little too close to the truth.

Cillian Murphy will be outstanding. Forget the times when Bond had old adversaries .These times audiences want an equal in every sense of the word. Most probably he ll be in his 30s and in no matter whether physically or mentally he will be lesser than BOND.Dont expect a 65 year old enemy now.
