To pass the time while we wait for CR to get made, what do youse all think James Bond's middle name could be? What would be appropriate?

I reckon something continental to go with his Swiss heritage. Christophe, anyone?

I started a thread on this subject a long time ago. As it turns out, James Bond indeed has no middle name. But I did always think that James Nathaniel Bond had a ring to it.

Possibly Andrew, after his father? That gives him the initials JAB, which is just funny.

If you want something French for Monique, I've always been partial to Constantin. (No, there is no "e" on the old French version.) Meaningful AND hard to spell.

Then it would be JCB! Although that's actually not a bad middle name. I was struggling to think of a suitable French-sounding name.

Greetings Mr Malcolm ... I'm sure that one of the literary giants out there will tell us the correct name.

In the meantime.... any of these would seem appropriate to your thread ...  Brooke, Basildon, Thee, Life, Bail, My, Uni, but probably more likely Euan, Iain, Georgio, Stefan.

Can someone put us out of our misery and indeed perhaps point out there is no middle name?

View Post

 Georgio or some variation thereof could be good.

Or actually, how about....Craig! Now that would be cool!

Quick thought - it should have more than one syllable, otherwise it sounds "off" somehow. James and Bond are both short names, and the rhythm works better if there's a double-beat in the middle.

James Andrew Bond

vs.

James Paul Bond

See what I mean?

Christophe's not a bad, though it feels like it should be Christopher. Which isn't really a bad choice, either.

I like and agree with this suggestion, TortillaFactory.

Or, extrapolating from Fleming's life, why not Fleming's grandfather, Robert, the patriarch of the Fleming millions.

I knew I had read this somewhere before!

I, therefore, suggest either of the two following options for Bond's middle name: either GABRIEL -- or MALCOLM.

One of you two guys is going to love me for this!

Alternatively, Bond's middle name could be ACE . . .

I say go with Malcolm. After all, my name comes from the villain in my first Bond short story. That wouldn't be good.

Surely Fleming would have mentioned his middle name when he wrote the obituary in You Only Live Twice

I've noticed that in the credits of some of the recent films Bond's middle name is given as Samantha. Personally, I would prefer something more in keeping with his favoutite pastime. Dick or Willie it is then.

As has been said Bond doesn't have a middle name. I can't remember which book it is mentioned, but Bond ruminates somewhere that he likes his short, simple name--James Bond--with no middle name. Can anyone remember in which book he makes this known? I'm afraid I can't remember.

If Bond did have a middle name, I too like the idea of Andrew. For a French name how about the French version of Andrew--Andre? Or how about going with Fleming's first name--James Ian Bond. In that case his initials would be J.I.B. which is somewhat appropriate given his naval background.

That would sound nicer if he were promoted to Vice Admiral. :)

I just hope our non-American friends get that one. Hell, I hope our American ones get it too.
