They've done the same thing with another novel, By the Pricking of My Thumbs, which was a Tommy and Tuppence story originally. Now it's a Tommy, Tuppence and Miss Marple story!
I suppose they think they'll get better audience figures if they've got a more familiar leading character in them.

She doesn't, Qwerty. But for this new series they've taken some of Agatha Christie's non-Marple stories, and put her into them.

Oh, I see. Understandable, although I don't think it necessary for this specific novel - in my opinion, it is one of Christie's best non-Poirot/Marple novels.
Thanks for the info!

"Bond loses his Marples
"FORMER James Bond star Timothy Dalton will rub shoulders with Laurence Fox and James Murray in ITV's final Miss Marple mystery, which hits the screen next year.
"The former 007 plays Clive Trevelyan, the owner of a mansion on the moors which is a guest house where Marple goes to stay...
"Trevelyan is also an eminent politician tipped to be the next Prime Minister, but that plan goes awry when he wakes up all dead one morning with a knife in his chest.
"The prime suspect is his alcoholic nephew Jim (Fox), but eager journalist Charles (Murray) is determined to prove his innocence. Hours of fun."
Deb will be contacting Mr. Dalton's London agents -- with whom she maintains regular monthly contact -- when they return to their offices after New Year's, in order to verify the above.
As Lady Rose says -- That's what I call a Christmas present!
P. S. LADY R: -- can I come to stay at your house when HE's on tv???

According to Mr. Dalton's TV Agent's Assistant, to whom Debra Best spoke yesterday, the tentative air date in the UK is:
5th March, 2006.

There's happy in your body of work, sure. But without wanting to sound too critical, there's also complacency.

Personally, I'd rather he appear in a pivotal role in a high-profile primetime British TV production, like this one (which will at least get him some decent exposure, and could well lead to him being offered bigger and better roles in the UK), over the roles he's been taking in these big-budget American miniseries in recent years. Most of which perform poorly in the US anyway, and barely even get shown on TV here, except as low-key afternoon filler fare, or in a graveyard slot on one of the satellite channels.
And considering the calibre of some of the actors these Agatha Christie adaptations are able to attract, he's not exactly slumming it, after all. Or if he is, he's in pretty good company!

I know what you're saying, David. But he can't take those kinds of roles if he's not being offered them.

I agree with you totally Royal Dalton. Those Hallmark epics aren't doing him any favours. I think its the best thing he can do and get back to the UK and back in some good dramas and raise his profile again. After all, film making isn't confined to Hollywood any more and the British film industry is producing some great stuff.
Agatha Christie always gets a good audience and a good cast and its alaways on at prime time. Its not a bad move. I notice that Patrick Stewart has been working a lot more in the UK also got himself involved in some programme for ITV which looks good. Maybe, there is just more work here.
And DS ....'As a huge Dalton fan, I a very disappointed that he has descended to the lvel of BBC counrty-house costume drama. ' ..... remember it was a little drama on the BBC which made him very, very popular

just a few words about your post... Debra did confirm Tim's appearance in the Miss Marple Series "Sittaford Mystery". As for the air date, it was me who found it on tv.com (and I guess Debra did confirm only Tim taking part in the tv film, not the air date)

BTW I will be happy to welcome all Dalton interested fans on my website (in Polish and English) under http://www.timothydalton.prv.pl

I agree Tim can't do roles he's not offered but I remain disappointed.

In fact, far greater than a "guess whose the villain 'cos I'm the biggest star role here" role in Miss Marple.
Is he ? Have a look at the synopsis posted by Daltons Wendy back in post 15

Anyway, I'm glad he's back on our screen in the UK. It may lead to other things.

Hello, Rochester! May I join with Qwerty in welcoming you to CBn? I clicked on to your website; looks great!Dalton's Wendy,

Re my post about the broadcast date: Debra Best personally spoke to Mr. Dalton's TV Agent's Assistant in Los Angeles to confirm the information on the date. Deb's information is never second-hand: she always goes directly to the source.
In reply to David Schofield's Post #20: I think we all agree with your desire to see an actor of Mr. Dalton's talents and presence do some of the greater works of the theatrical canon, but, unfortunately, the allocation of starring roles on stage and screen are often based on decisions of business, rather than on the actor's qualifications. And, unfortunately, Mr. Dalton is a bit too old for Hamlet . . . and way too young for Lear. (He would make a perfect Macbeth, though . . . )
I think both Royal Dalton and Lady Rose summarized the current situation best.
I agree, David, this is certainly not the best of all possible roles for him, but 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Does that mean I can come to your house, so I can watch it, too?
I agree, David, this is certainly not the best of all possible roles for him, but 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.
And I will clear the living room when its on and watch it, of course, however disappointed I might be.
