It's official - Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) has been cast as Maxwell Smart in the big screen version of "Get Smart".
In the November issue of Playboy in their 20 Question interview, he confirmed that it's his next project.
Now, can he measure up to the legacy that is the late Don Adams?
I guess we'll find out.

The fact that they also got a red Sunbeam Tiger makes it work almost as much as Bond with an Aston.
Now, who to cast a Siegfried and 99?

Ahhh...
"Missed it by that much."
The 11th...OK, yeah, that's when I was in the UK and not on the boards too much.
Changing the title of the thread is cool, but in the future, warn me with a PM.

From Entertainment Weekly.com, http://www.ew.com/ew...0013632,00.html
Alan Arkin is joining Steve Carell in the Get Smart movie Peter Segal is directing for Warner Bros. Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the organization that fights the evil forces of KAOS. It's the role portrayed by Edward Platt in the 1960s TV series. Carell will play secret agent Maxwell Smart, and Anne Hathaway will portray Agent 99. Dwayne ''The Rock'' Johnson and Terrence Stamp are also on board.
My main reason for upping this thread is to post a teaser poster I made for the film. I used a headshot of Carell from an Entertainment Weekly cover so it's very much in the same spirit as the poster for the 40-Year Old Virgin.

The Get Smart fan site WouldYouBelieve.com previewed an unauthorized early draft of the script, with mostly negative response. However, Hollywood is abuzz about the casting and recent table reading, which went, according to one insider, as well as anything he's ever seen. "It was fist pounding funny, and is going to make all the old GET SMART fans very happy while making tons of new GET SMART fans as well."
Being that it's Wikipedia anybody could have posted that. A good cast can breath life into a script that just sits there on paper, but having said that a bad script can also bring down a good cast, so we'll see.

Brilliant Gobi!
I've also heard that the script has undergone a major makeover with Carrell.
Arkin as the Chief is great. Also, by this fall, there will be a trailer done in the vein of the CR trailer. First in B&W and then to color. If they just do a revamp of the theme in the vein of the GE Parodie Fair mix, it *could* be awesome.
You know, it just *might* work.
Production starts this next week.
*fingers crossed*
"The situation is under CONTROL" - That's a great tagline.

Don't give anyone any ideas.

*pumps fist* "Old School!"
While I've never been one for cameo's from former stars of a series showing up in a motion picture revamp, I'd hope either Bernie Kopell or Barbara Feldon might turn up somewhere in this.
Best bit in recent years that I've seen in any "based on a TV show" film is the still heavenly Jaclyn Smith in CA-2 giving a "divine" pep-talk to Drew Barrymore.

Don Adams will forever be Maxwell Smart, but Carrell has my seal of approval. He will be fine I am sure. I hope it is indeed fist pounding funny.
