I know it's a bit early to be talking about BO #'s but I was just wondering which film you people think is going to do better at the B.O. The first two MI films were pretty big hits and they got Tom Cruise, but there's a lot of publicity surrounding CR so what do you think?

I imagine that M:I-3 (which I'm not especially looking forward to, although I'll certainly see it) will do better at the box office than CASINO ROYALE (certainly in the US), but I reckon that CASINO ROYALE will probably be by far the better film.

Yeah, I have a feeling MI3 will do better in the US but CR will definetly have a much better WW #.

Bond will kick MI3's butt. Cruise's star is dimming lately, especially after his ridiculous press tour comments...No contest!

Erm...War of the Worlds was actually Cruise's biggest moneymaker in his entire career. MI3 will probably beat CR at the box office, but who really cares? I just hope they both deliver the goods. (MI3 opens on May 5 in the US).

4th of july release, Spielberg, a remake of a classic sci-fi story...carrot top could have been the headliner and it would have done $175M...

Agreed Tarl. There seems to be less of an overall appeal for him, IMO anyways.

There used to always be comparisons of the movies between him and Nicole Kidman, and I think she's in a much better overall view by the public now.

Previous 4th of July releases include Cats and Dogs and Wild Wild West, funnily enough I don't recall either of those making near $600 million. And oh yes, Spielberg, riding high after the blockbuster successes of AI and The Terminal, he's always guaranteed box office! A remake of a classic sci-fi story, what, just like those other successful remakes Godzilla, A Sound of Thunder, Rollerball, Solaris, and The Time Machine?
I remember hearing much the same line over the summer. Everyone was saying how WOTW was going to OMG BOMBBB!!!!1! because of Cruise's antics, and when it became a huge hit, everybody was saying "Oh, yeah, um, it's a hit because of Spielberg, yeah, let's go with that". If Cruise really turned off that many people, the movie would have done Battlefield Earth numbers. But we are speculating idly...MI3 and CR will be successes, we will be there to see for ourselves.

Let's not go overboard here, DAD was the highest grossing Bond film in recent years, and yet it wasn't even one of the top ten earning movies of 2002.

I don't care either way. I hate the MI films because it's not about a "team" but rather one cool guy-and they just plain suck. I love Collateral, fyi.

God, I'm sick to flippin' death of "box-office comparisons", weekend reports, "who can open a film?", 30-day grosses, "does it have legs?", etc. etc.

I am old enough to remember when there was absolutely zero, yes Z-E-R-O news reportage of the box-office grosses of films. I didn't know, and didn't care. Critical reviews I did pay some heed to (this was before the "Era of the Sycophants"). But mostly, I cared if my trip to the movies was enjoyable.

Funny thing, the movies were a hell of a lot better, in the main, before they started reporting revenues.

I'm hopeful MI3 will be good. I'm optimistic anyway that JJ Abrams can bring Mission Impossible back into it's realm, instead of going into the horrible Tom Cruise ninja crap that John Woo did with the second. That was an awful film.

Which will gross more? I'll bet it's a toss up in the US. It depends on the market and what opens opposite of them. MI3 may get its :) kicked by Sony's Spiderman. It's certainly a very real scenario. While nothing as far as action flicks go may oppose Bond. Worldwide - always bet on Bond. Not many films worldwide can do what Bond does or has done almost consistantly from it's inception.

Whatever, MI 3 will outdo Casino Royale in every way.

And I really hate to say it but I hope the next xXx movie is three times more harsher towards Bond than the previous two were.

I mean I love Brosnan's films too, but just cause you don't like the new Bond doesn't mean you have to damn the whole franchise.
