The 60's era is widely regarded by many in a previous poll to be a favorite including me, and the 90's only started during its 2nd half, but you CAN compare the 70's and 80's together as they both have Bonds spanning bookend to bookend

and just for the heck of it i'll add in the ratings from my 1996 movie guide out of 5 stars
70's--
DAF ****
LALD **
TMWTGG **

I think the 70s Bonds were far superior to the 80's ones. The 70s films were bright, colourful and alot of fun, especially The Man With the Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me. The 80s ones are kind of dull and stale, with only The Living Daylights really offering anything new and fresh.

I give the edge to the 80's, 4/5 are great as opposed to only 2/5 from the 70's.

I prefer the 80's but only just. I think the Glen films were more consistantly brilliant. The 70's boasts the best Bond film (TSWLE), but has some decidedly dodgy moments either side of it, mostly concerning over-the-top humour that wasn't always funny - Dolly in MR, Pepper in TMWTGG etc

I seem to prefer all things 70's to things 80's. No exception with the Bond films. I'll sign on to Freemo's comments on the matter.

Yes, I'll go along with that one as well. TLD and OP (guilty pleasure of mine) were about the only shiny, polished spots on an otherwised tarnished and rusty era. I don't know what direction they were trying to go to in that era, and with the ultra-serious FYEO alongside the ultra-campy OP, the produces probably didn't know either.

The Seventies films, while widely panned, were at least consistently entertaining and maintained the ridiculous comedy aspects that defined Roger's films. Hell, even DAF was a Roger Moore Bond film that just happened to star Sean Connery, right down to the pink tie and moonbuggy "comedy bit."

I like both the '70s and '80s eras of Bond, but much prefer the '70s. Why? Because Bond was never so much bloomin' fun as during that decade, and the perfect representative film of that era is not, IMO, THE SPY WHO LOVED ME but THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN, which gets my vote for the most entertaining 007 flick of all time.

I prefer the 1980s.

I'm not a big fan of DAF, TMWTGG or MOONRAKER from the 1970s.

weighing my favorites I would say the 80s...they've got TLD, FYEO, OP and LTK....the 70s only have TMWTGG and TSWLM as the real highlights.. DAF and MR are at the bottom of my list.

80s for me thank you.

The 70s is book ended by two weak films, DAF and MR. TSWLM is the highlight.

The 80s starts off with a great one, FYEO and climaxes with TLD. It did taper off with LTK.

I think The 80s were the second(after 60s) best great decade for James Bond fans: 6 films, 3 007 stars including 2 of the best :) , great songs and locales...good fun all around.AVTAK was the only weakness.

70's.

The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker are my top two favorite in the entire series, while my top two from the 80's - Octopussy and The Living Daylights sit at about #5, #6 overall.

The 70s, easily. So much fun. The 80s Bonds just didn't have the same amount of energy to 'em...

I'm a big fan of the 80s. With the exception of For Your Eyes Only, each film in that decade lies somewhere in my Top 10.

The 70s has its gems too (The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker), but it's bogged down a bit by the others.

The 70s was hands down was the best. All 5 of the 70s entries were top-knotch. Of the 80s entries, FYEO, Octopussy and TLD were fine.

80's beats the 70's easily. You've got a remake of Connery's best starring Sean, two outstanding Tim Dalton adventures, and Moore's best(FYEO). OP and AVTAk were also good fun.

I definitely would have to go with the 70s. The Spy Who Loved Me is my all time favorite and I also am one of the few who seems to really enjoy The Man With The Golden Gun. :)

Yay,007Travis. I liked the 70's peroid just a tiny bit better than the 80's. John Glen should have brought something new and fresh every time he directed a flim. The great ones in the 80's were FYEO and TLD. The great ones in the 70's were TMWTGG and LALD. LALD had a bit more suspense then TLD.

Tough one. The 1980s brought us The Living Daylights, the best post-1960s Bond film ever. However, it also brought my least favorite Bond film A View To A Kill. Maybe its for nostalgia reasons, but the 1970s entries(often unfairly labeled "the dark years of 007") are always consistently entertaining and watchable at least. Therefore, I vote for the 1970s. BTW, I prefer both the 1970s and 1980s Bonds to the 1990s flicks.

The 1980s is the best without question. For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy, The Living Daylights and Licence To Kill are all great Bond movies and are overall superior to the Bond films of the 1970s.

yeah, Despite how it would shock many to think 80's is better than 70's and the 007 series isn't exactly best>next best>next best in terms of decades despite how we've all grown accustomed to thatorder, the 80's beats the 70's as the most dignified films. Even 80's beats 70's in most fun with Octopussy and NSNA. Only thing 70's has is TSWLM and DAF if you're into comedy.

The '80s, easily. We had solid films in For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy, great ones in The Living Daylights and Licence to Kill, and even A View To A Kill had its moments. Three of the decade's theme songs are in the top five overall, and the movies showcased some of the best villains, henchmen, and Bond girls, and two starred the best Bond ever in Timothy Dalton.

The '70s really only had The Spy Who Love Me going for it as a great, with Live And Let Die being respectably good. The other three are probably in the bottom five Bond movies overall. Probably my least favorite decade to date.

For me It was the 80's, or the Glen era. I know that some feel that Glen didn't have the flair for Bond. But, I thought he was good. They was a sense of conitnuity to his tenure. What I dislike the most about the Brosnan era was that all four movies felt like stand alone movies. Glen's Bond seem like they were part of a larger series, which I enjoyed.
