In FYEO, when Bond and Melina are in the wreck of the St. George's, I swear there's one dead sailor in there who's still sat at his workstation. Now that's job dedication.

Wasn't there a sailer who was handcuffed to his duty station? More haunting than funny, I suppose....

Bond in TB whacking the fire alarm with his elbow after discovering Derval's body, nonchalantly as you like. Always gets a chuckle out of me.

I don't think that was unintentional.

No, the guy I'm referring to is in the main room where Bond and Melina fight the henchman in the suit, not the smaller room where the ATAC and its shackled operator were.

I don't think that was unintentional.

Not sure, I interpreted it as a "cool" moment that also manages to be quite funny. To me, anyway.

I watched Octopussy with my son today. Where do I start. Tarzen calls, James Bond as a clown and a snake charmer playing the Bond theme. Carry on 007. Sid James as Blofeld with Hattie Jaques as Pussy galore and Bernard Breslaw as Jaws perhaps.

Were talking the Glen/Moore era here, so you can't class it as unintentional comedy as both had wicked senses of humor.

That's really the opposite - intentional comedy moments that weren't all that funny.

FYEO. When Bond discovers Ferrara's body. There's a shot of Roger where he looks around to see if anybody's watching. He looks far older and ropier here than at any point during AVTAK..

Actually, Roger looks noticeably older in the Cortina scenes than he does in the rest of the film. Probably because it's cold and cold has a tendency to add years on....

When Bond nods at the guy who's trying to ram the Citroën 2CV6 in For Your Eyes Only

Um... that was intentional. :S

Thanks for the quick reply to that one ;)

When Bond decides to do a little bit of housework in TMWTGG. ;)

It's in the hotel, just right after he shoves Goodnight in the wardrobe.

It makes me chuckle every time I see Sean's amused laugh at the belly dancer in the Gypsy camp. I feel like I'm laughing with him at the same thing, really.

Sean's grimace in Goldfinger, just before he crashes the Aston Martin into the wall
Also, in LALD, Roger's slo-mo look of alarm at the snake rearing up at him in the mirror

You never know if it was on purpose (we are talking Mankiewicz, here) or if it's just me being my usual puerile self, but it cracks me up after Rog magnetically unzips Ms. Caruso with his smooth-like-buttah "Sheer magnetism" line, the next spoken line is Solitaire reading, "A man comes."

I have never actually caught that before either. Great observation. Knowing Mankiewicz, it was probably intentional.

When Vesper enters the casino in Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's facial expression cries out for a Sid James leery chuckle and a Carry On-style sleazy saxophone on the soundtrack.

He's making that face because Terry Hatcher is like 4 months pregnant and is sporting a little Volkswagen under that dress. If you look at all the scenes she's in, the camera angles are all quite deliberate to conceal that fact.

I do believe Britt Eckland was expecting too but not quite as much.

For example: In License to Kill a crowd of reporters surrounds the van Sanchez is being taken away in. In the middle of the usual barrage of bland questions, one offscreen reporter throws this beauty out-"Are you really Columbian?"

...

Second, I'd love to know whether or not it was in the script or just an ad-lib from an extra.

The way scenes with extras are usually done is that the extras aren't allowed to say ANYTHING due to the fact that anyone who has an audible line of dialogue in the film has to have a new contract written up and will get paid more than other extras. This means that the reporters' lines of dialogue were either: 1) said by paid actors on location and were, as such, most likely not ad-libbed but in the written script or (more likely) given to the actors by John Glen or a script supervisor or 2) it was recorded in the studio by a vocal artist and was, once again, a planned/authorized line of dialogue....

Thinking about any of the possible ways that it was consciously put into the movie makes me smile.

I can buy that. Mank did use "She's just coming, Sir!" in TMWTGG, so there's definitely a, um, theme there.

AVTAK - when Bond first meets Zorin at the garden party, Zorin says :

"Built by a Duke in the 17th century who believed he'd be reincarnated as a horse. Have you been interested in thoroughbreds long?"

Zorin telling him that completely random and bizarre bit of trivia and then segueing into a question, combined with Walken's typically unique delivery, make this line an instant classic.

And then there's the thrilling scene in the blimp at the end where Dr.Mortner tries to stand up but he forgot to undo his seatbelt. Now while I'm sure that was intentional, I assume we're supposed to be somewhat "in suspense" over whether the old man will be able to undo his seatbelt in time to stop Stacey. And it becomes doubly silly when we see he is in fact holding a gun, so he could just shoot her from the comfort of his chair whilst remaining securely fastened.

I can't see this mentioned anywhere else on this thread, so I'll mention it - the gangsters in GF. They are played in such an OTT manner, complete with stock "tough guy" American accents, that I can't help but laugh.

Plus, they seem pretty juvenile for manjor crime lords, what with the laughing while riding hobby horses bit and the habit of getting upset at everything ("what's with that trick pool table?", "who closed those windows?" and "I don't like this!").

Agreed. This is one of the silliest scenes in the franchise. I think I counted 9 different inane comments by the gangsters during Goldfinger’s demonstration.

Goldfinger's demonstration is itself an unintenionally comedic moment.

He brings all these goons together, supposedly to pay them off, offers them 10X their payout to listen to his plan, which he spent 15 years working out (half that time must have gone into designing and building the trick briefing room), then tests his nerve gas on them.

All so Bond can crouch under the model and listen in.

BTW, is anyone - North Korean or otherwise - stupid enough to open a locked cell because the man inside disappears from view for a moment?

Good point. Mind you, reading the Darwin Awards website and books means that yes, there definitely are people stupid enough to do something like this. Also, it always reminds me of the German bank robbers, from just a few years back, driving in the car everyone was looking for, who were stopped by police only to be asked if they'd seen anything suspicious.

There are a lot of things in the Bond films I might not have found so funny if it weren't for my wife. She has an adorable sense of humor, and finds the oddest things funny. Here's an example;

In Goldfinger, when Bond is handcuffed to the dirty bomb, after Oddjob throws that soldier with the keys over the railing; My wife laughs every time she watches Bond struggle to pull the heavy dirty bomb along to get after the keys in the soldier's pocket before Oddjob gets down to meet him. She gives another chuckle at the way-too-high toss by Oddjobs hat over Bond's head in the same scene.
Now, of course, I find that scene funny. I didn't before...

There are many more instances of my wife giggling at odd moments in the Bond movies... Mostly in the more serious films, but this is all I can think of for now. I'll post more if/when I remember.

Funny you should mention Sid James. There was a report in a national newspaper a few years ago which stated that he was one of those who tested to play the part of James Bond in Dr No, on the basis of name recognition through his appearances in the Carry On films. The newspaper even produced some "stills" of the test scenes.

Of course, the newspaper was dated 1st April! :)

Bond's disguise in the PTS of Octopussy. The moment he places the fake moustache on his face has me in hysterics. He might as well have worn those comedy glasses with the fake nose/moustache.

Another favourite is Bond tucking Stacey into bed in AVTAK.

And seeing discussions of Brosnan's pain grunts reminds me of Moore's grunts in Octopussy and A View to a Kill - the same soundbite is used a number of times, but it's quite audible when he falls out of the window of Octopussy's bedroom and during the Eiffel Tower chase.
