I'm actually pretty excited by this....my favorite James Bond film Never Say Never Again was largely set in the Bahama's.

Sure, sounds fine. I tend to doubt South Africa was ever "playing" South Africa anyway, so I'm sure the Bahamas can "play" wherever it's actually supposed to be just as well.

The Bahamas have another interesting Bond connection. Former James Bond Sean Connery keeps a home there where he recently recorded his voice track for EA's upcoming 007 videogame, From Russia With Love.

Coincidence? I THINK NOT!!! Sean is back... search your feelings, you know it to be true.

Well, not that it looks as though CASINO ROYALE is going to be anything like as good a film as NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN, of course. Still, nice to know they're moving forward - obviously, a delay isn't in the offing (yet). But as ever the question: who will be Bond?

Wasn't there a report last year that Peter Lamont was scouting the Bahamas?

Curious.

I'll just copy my comments from the other thread.

I don't mind Campbell scouting the Bahamas but if they shoot there I want the movie set there. It was cool and original to have it in South Africa but I prefer the authentic feel that would come from the movie being shot at its actual location.

Bond obviously is familiar with the Bahamas, perhaps he could just be on holiday and come across a new SPECTRE-esque foe and call it in to M and the gang. In this way its almost like the shrublands bit in TBall but also closer to Fleming's real life story of running across a German agent and taking it upon himself to bankrupt him. In essence, Bond stumbles into a plot, MI:6 advises him from afar in a short sequence and sends Vesper as backup. A bit like Miranda in DAD but thats tough to get around. Still, the whole thing is mostly just Bond on his own.

But I digress, the Bahamas can work, but I think they should just let them work as the Bahamas not as a stand in.

Where else will CASINO ROYALE shoot? Prague? Any filming confirmed for the UK? Anywhere else rumoured? I haven't really been following the location news too closely.

We said in an article a while back that, despite reports, CR will shoot very briefly in the UK. I'm assuming the Prague studio is still the plan (there will be no shooting in the city), but I haven't heard much about that lately. There was a rumour on the AJB boards that the team might shoot at Pinewood afterall, but we could never get any confirmation on that.

Very cool and ties into something a friend of mine told me just yesterday (he just got back from a week at the Atlantis resort) he was told by the manager.

"The Bond people are here scouting for the next film."

I took it with a grain of salt (and a pint of Guinness) but I guess it's the real deal.

I'm cool with the locale, they can set it wherever they want - Hey, Cadiz doubled (and quite well IMO) for Havana, and the Bond people have been filming there off and on since TB. Cool. :)

Hmmmm....May have to schedule my vacation (well, one of them) next year around filming.

Maybe I can get extra work. :)

BTW, I need one of our Bond location experts here to vet this article. I said Eon shot underwater footage for TND in The Bahamas, but now I'm not sure about that. I know they did TSWLM there and some film after that (besides LTK). FYEO maybe? Or am I right about TND? Any help?

The Bahamas? Again?

Well, at least it looks like they're actually shooting there, rather than going the cheap route by trying to make Cornwall look like Nassau.

Don't give up hope just yet. It's not certain that the Bahamas will be used exclusively as a substitute/replacement for South Africa. It's possible that Eon could film in both countries.

My recollection from the dvd documentaries is that they shot underwater in the Bahamas for both TND (shipwreck) and TWINE (submarine stuff). I would guess that the same holds true for FYEO. I seem to recall John Richardson saying something to the effect that they always shoot 2nd unit underwater stuff in The Bahamas due to clarity of the water and good access to resources.

Cool. Thanks. They sure seem to be fond of The Bahamas. (God, I hope CR doesn't have underwater stuff. I've just never been a fan). I bet there's also tax savings.

Pretty sure the Never Say Never Again DVD booklet has a paragraph or two on underwater Bond films and shooting locations.

I'm not a big fan of underwater stuff either, especially since both Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough featured underwater stuff. I'd like to see some snow and ski action - this time done properly after the very poor attempt in The World Is Not Enough.

Incidently my favorite underwater stuff is the shark sequences in Never Say Never Again :)

Underwater stuff is okay, but a little of it goes a long way, and it always seems to go on forever in the Bonds.

Just about the only underwater bit I'm never bored by involves the Lotus in THE SPY WHO LOVED ME.

Well it's nice to hear that -- apart from the little matter of who will be Bond -- the production is making some progress...

I can't say I'm that excited by the Bahamas; I have to wonder what they can show us that we haven't seen before.

I'll double check a few things, but I *believe* the TND underwater stuff and the Devonshire was actually done at the Fox studios in Baja where Titanic was shot.

Agreed that a little underwater footage goes a long way. I think the bits in LTK, TND and TWINE are efficiently edited to convey aura and excitement w/o bogging down.

But my predilection for a tropical setting stems from the ambient opportunities above water: sandy beaches, trade winds, palm trees, bikini-clad ladies, calypso music faintly heard in the backround, beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Thunderball captured the tropical vibe quite well. I would welcome that again.

There are casinos in the Bahamas, so the Bahamas could very well be the Bahamas.

Although if Brosnan comes back a lot of CASINO ROYALE could risk looking an awful lot like AFTER THE SUNSET.

Agreed 100%. And I hope CASINO ROYALE will bring back that good old-fashioned "travelogue" quality, which films like THUNDERBALL, YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE and THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN are so rich in.

Interesting news. God forbid they film anything in France, where, oh I don't know...THE BOOK IS SET?
