Who would you cast in 'Live And Let Die' if it were to be made now? Here's who I would cast for a 2005/6 version (not changing the tone or much else from the original movie)

James Bond: Hugh Jackman- Has a similar sense of humor as Roger Moore had in the original
Kananga: Samuel L. Jackson- Has the same kind of cavalier attitude that Kananga has, and could pull off Mr. Big perfectly (watch his performance in 'Jackie Brown')
Solitaire: Keira Knightley- Has the same kind of innocence and naive qualities that Jane Seymour brought to the role
Tee Hee: Michael Clarke Duncan- Looks very similar to Julius Harris, only is much bigger and could be a physical match for Jackman's Bond.
Leiter: Owen Wilson?- I couldn't really picture anyone else who could bring the same charm that Hedison brought to Leiter in LALD, and would have good chemistry with Hugh Jackman
Baron Samedi: ??? (Can't think of anyone)
J.W. Pepper: ??? (Can't think of anyone. Maybe Will Ferrell?)
Rosie Carver: ??? (Can't think of anyone. Maybe Gabrielle Union?)

Bond:Brosnan
Kananga:I agree concerning Jackson
Solitaire:Rachel Weisz
Tee Hee:Excellent choice regarding Duncan
Leiter:Denis Leary
Baron Samedi:Djimon Hounsou
J.W.Pepper:not Will Ferrell-how about an actor who specializes in playing rednecks?
Rosie Carver:Vivica A.Fox or Lisa Raye
jive talkin' cabbie:Chris Tucker
Strutter:Avery Brooks
Mrs.Bell:Louise Fletcher
M:Judi Dench
Moneypenny:Samantha Bond
Miss Caruso:Sofia Milos
Whisper:Anthony Anderson

Some of the ideas here are good like Avery Brooks(Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, right?) as Strutter. I hate to be a party pooper though and say this is the last Bond movie that would be remade because of political correctness. Especially with the good guy being white and the villians black.

I know that it's highly unlikely that it would be remade, but it's kind of fun to think about these things since there isn't much new news for us to dissect nowadays. I think that if it was to be remade, Quentin Tarantino would be the one to direct it. Not only is Samuel L. Jackson one of "his actors" (like Uma Thurman or Michael Madsen) but he is possibly the only director who could get away with that kind of movie today without receiving much flak from the press or the black community (with the exception of Spike Lee, perhaps.)

I really hope that you were joking with some of your choices there Righty007. I could imagine Dave Chappelle as the cab-driver, but not as the famous Baron Samedi (who is about twice his height.) Don Cheadle isn't as threatening as Kananga should be, and I think that he would make a better Harold Strutter. I also think that Brosnan would be miscast as a Moore-esque Bond (Brosnan would be cast in a modern version of TB or TLD)

I was dead serious. I don't joke when recasting my most favorite James Bond film. Brosnan is still James Bond and Don Cheadle is the perfect bad guy. Have you seen After the Sunset? Dave Chapelle looks like Holder and could pull off the goofyness of the character.

I didn't mean to offend you, and you are entitled to your opinion, but my main point is one of the reasons why Baron Samedi stood out so much was his height, his laugh, and his sheer screen presence. I could see Dave Chapelle making a good Baron Samedi impression, but the character isn't supposed to be goofy, he's supposed to be creepy and charismatic.

Brosnan is still James Bond, just like Connery is and Moore is, but Brosnan is "Brosnan Bond." I don't think that he would do the same if cast in a Roger Moore role, just like Moore wouldn't do well if cast in a Connery or Brosnan. All 5 of the Bond actors have their own screen persona that can't be imitated by one another. That's why I picked Hugh Jackman, because unlike some of the other Bond contenders, it seems like he could play that light-hearted Bond that Moore did.

James Bond : Julian McMahon
Mr.Big/Kananga : Laurence Fishburne
Tee-Hee : Keith David
Solitare : Jessica Alba
Felix Leiter : Michael Vartan
Baron Samedi : Djimon Hounsou (excellent idea, TheSaint)
JW Pepper : Jim Belushi (or if he doesn't have to be tubby, Billy Bob Thornton)

I agree that Laurence Fishburne would make a good Kananga also. I also think that casting Billy Bob Thornton as the sheriff would be inspired. Good work.

Natalie Portman as Miss Caruso? YIKES! :) Too Jewish, little girly, and innocent to come off as an Italian spy.

Natalie Portman could play an innocent girl, like Solitaire but I probably would not cast her.

I say Jessica Alba as Miss Caruso.

Is Adam the henchman who had the gasoline dumped on him during the boat chase? It's been a while since I've seen LALD.

James Bond: Daniel Craig (I think he'd be a better fit for this particular story than my usual choice, Clive Owen)
Mr. Big/Kananga: Don Cheadle
Solitaire: Keira Knightley
TeeHee: Michael Clarke Duncan
Baron Samedi: Samuel L. Jackson
Rosie: (Don't know who should play this part)
Sheriff Pepper: Billy Bob Thornton ( :) to whoever mentioned him above. That would truly be a bit of inspired casting right there.)
Felix Leiter: Gary Sinise
Cab driver: Chris Tucker (once again, :) to whoever mentioned him before)
M: Michael Gambon

I think that Samuel L. Jackson would be better suited as Baron Samedi instead of Tee Hee (even though he would be the perfect Kananga.) Michael Clarke Duncan is about as perfect of a choice for Tee Hee as you can get.

Actually, that's what I had meant to type in. I was going back and doing some editing to my list as I was making it up and might have made a deletion or two that caused them to get next to the wrong name, but I did mean for Michael Clark Duncan to be Tee Hee and Jackson to be Samedi. I agree, though, that Jackson would also make a good Kananga, but I also think that Don Cheadle is just as capable of playing that role as well.

I've gone back and edited my post to correct my mistake.

Don Cheadle would be capable of playing almost any part offered to him. He's played almost every kind of character, so why not a Bond villain or ally? (I'd rather see him as a villain, since he almost always plays a good guy, with a few exceptions.)

Hey bryonalston, before I opened this thread those top three were precisely the same. I especially think Keira Knightley would be perfect.

Thanks. She would be. I simply can't see anyone else pulling off that role (especially not Monica Bellucci :))
Again, I still think that Don Cheadle would be better suited as Harold Strutter than Kananga. Hell, he could even play Rene Mathis in CR (why not?)

Yeah....I can't see Bellucci in the role. I really cannot see any other actress today other then Knightley being able to pull off the Solitaire role.

Cheadle as Kananga? No way, Jackson is a far better choice IMO.

This is how I would do it-by keeping it faithful Fleming's book. By the way, Live and Let Die is my favorite Moore film, great topic!!!!
