I watched it when it came on tv back in the early 1980s and it was entertaining enough, but its not the sort of show with a significant enough season story arc to really warrant picking it up as a season 1 DVD set.
I'm sure that Brosnan fans will snap this up though just as I snapped up all those SAINT episodes on DVD. :)

There's always a delay from when a show is announced until the listing appears on amazon. Might try checking some of the other online retailers Athena

"Wilkinson Sword" was a good show, but I much prefered Moonlighting, which was the way that one of the creators of RS wanted to go in.

Really not a bad price considering the amount of episodes included.

It's fairly standard. That's the same price generally for most television shows, whether that be Buffy, Magnum, Smallville or Alias.

I suppose I'm comparing it to the sometimes higher A&E boxed sets.

Sadly, yes. Some of those list prices are way too high.

Not sure if I'll buy it (there are so many other tv series on DVD that I've been far too cheap to purchase) but it's nice to know that I have the option to. I never saw the show, not even sure if it screened in Australia during it's original run, but I'm definitely interested now. Maybe I'll sucker a family member into getting it for me for my upcoming birthday. :)

I received this e-mail from TVShowsonDVD.com that gave an updated release date for RS:

"A little over a week ago, we brought you the breaking news that Remington Steele - Season 1 would arrive on DVD this Spring. The date we got from Fox's press kit was April 26th, and that's what we passed on to our readers.

Since then, we've noticed that other DVD news sites have relayed this news with a different date, and we discovered that this other date was also in the same set of information, just in another place. We contacted Fox to ask for a clarification, and they apologized, telling us the the second date was the correct one.

The accurate street date for Remington Steele - Season 1 is May 24th. All the other information posted in the previous story was accurate. Fox is still waiting on final approval of the cover art, and just as soon as that's done we'll bring it to you. Stay tuned!"

Another e-mail update from TVShowsonDVD. com:

"Now we have word from Video Business that this release is a 4-DVD set, and will contain some extras. In an article (registration required) posted yesterday to their online site, the trade magazine had this to say:

The four-disc set of the first season of Remington Steele, starring pre-007 Pierce Brosnan as a suave thief hired to be a front man for a female detective agency owner (Stephanie Zimbalist), also debuts May 24 ($39.98), with audio commentaries and featurettes.

It sounds great. We will be looking to Fox Home Entertainment to provide details of those supplements. And cover art as well. So stay tuned, and we'll be back with more just as soon as we can!"

Too bad my mum is not alive to hear this news. She loved Pierce in his "perfect English gentleman" role -- the precise reason I did NOT want Brosnan to play Bond back in '86. Had she seen the Brosnan Bond era, I'm sure she would have objected to the rampant womanizing, the enter-the-room-and-blow-everything-to-hell Rambo Bond scenes, the cowardly point-blank disposal of a woman or the (much-preferred, in my thinking) swat to the back of Xenia Onatopp's head. But I'm sure she would have forgiven all those sins to see Remington Steele back in action again;P.

Sorry mum. You know I love ya.

I don't see Brosnan's relationship with Stephanie Zimblest getting much better out of this. :)

I remember watching the show when it came out in '82. It was fresh and unlike most shows on television.

Putting Brosnan on the box cover by himself is a real slap in the face to Stephanie Zimbalist. That's like putting Bruce Willis on the box cover of Moonlighting by himself. As for the "Before He was Bond he was..." tagline, I'm glad none of the various Saint box sets had such a line on them.

I remember watching this show on television and thinking it was okay.

But, I will not be picking up the set because I don't think it has any re-watch value (for me at least) unlike shows such as Buffy and Charmed.

There are a number of shows I really like that don't have that crucual re-watch value so that's not to be meant as a rip on REMINGTON STEELE (which at least had the attractive Stephanie Zimbalist in it).

Other shows I REALLY like that don't have a re-watch value are MURDER SHE WROTE (because after you find out who committed the crime, the mystery is gone), ALIAS (because it has season-long story arcs) and VERONICA MARS (for much the same reason).

Having said that I have picked up season sets of ALIAS.

Remington Steele - Season 1

Etailer DVDPlanet posted Remington Steele to their site late yesterday. They're showing 3 releases for the first season; the complete first season, season 1 vol 1 and season 1 vol 2.

The season set will contain 4 discs, while the two volumes will contain 2 discs each. SRP on the full season is $39.95 ($27.97 DVDPlanet price) and the two volumes are $22.95 each ($16.07 DVDPlanet price).

We'll have more information on the specs, and extras, when Fox officially announces the title in the next few days. All three sets will hit stores on July 26.
