I saw this "film" today. What it really was hardly qualifies as a "film". It's as though the director and actors conned the studio into financing this movie without a script and they just filmed as they went along, making s!@$ up as they go; sure they looked like they were having a blast-why wouldn't they? They're in Amsterdamm and Rome, lake Cuomo...etc.lodging in 5 star hotels and private villas. This movie is self indulgent, pointless, meandering and boring. The irony: Clooney and Pitt are watching Happy Days re-runs translated into iltalian and later in the film they have a ridiculous gimmick*that is so cheesy that I couldn't help but think of Happy days' legendary "Jumping the Shark" episode... :)

Anyway, don't waste your time or money...If you must see this I suggest renting DVD in 3 months.

On a positive note:I did enjoy some of the scenery. Italy is beautiful...of course.

When you think about it, there's not that many ocean's in the world anyway!. :)

I did enjoy the remake, but a follow-up to a remake is never a good thing.

Can't wait until "Try Another Day" la partie deux!. :)

Cheers,

Ian

Yes, it IS annoying when your expectations are shattered.

I tend to wait until movies come out on DVD before I bother watching them now.

The last movie I went to see was 'Harry Potter and The Spotty Pygmy from Cheme"!. :)

I think 1-in-8 movies are pretty good, but there's a lot of waste of celluloid out there.

I've heard some good comments about this film, that it promises just a fun ride. I'd like to check it out if I'm able to.

Hmmm.... what's Brosnan got in the pipeline? Oh, yes, THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR 2.

I'm skipping OCEAN'S TWELVE - wasn't mad about the first one, although I quite enjoyed it, and I've read some absolutely scathing reviews of this sequel.

And I agree with film critic Rex Reed's description of Steven Soderbergh as "the overrated critic's darling" - yeah, OCEAN'S ELEVEN is okay, and OUT OF SIGHT and TRAFFIC aren't bad, either, but I just don't understand why so many people seem to rave about this director.

It frightens me that someone of your film acumen, Loomis, would ever listen to Rex Reed. That guy is about as cranky as they come and annoyingly so. Personally, I think Wes Anderson fits that description. His latest film sounds ot be interchangeable from the others he's done lately. At least Soderbergh has done a huge body of work and isn't repeating himself over and over and over.

Well, I don't know anything about Reed, actually. I just came across that description of his of Soderbergh, which I agree with. I know Reed's name, and I know he's a critic, but that's all I know. I don't know what his likes and dislikes are, or even who he writes for. But maybe I'm being too harsh on Soderbergh: I don't say he's a bad director - clearly, he isn't, he's very talented. Then again, I do think he's an "overrated critic's darling" - plenty of people seem to acclaim him as a great filmmaker, but I don't think his body of work - good though it is in places - justifies this acclaim. But who knows? Perhaps, a few more movies down the line, Soderbergh will have shown himself to be one of the greats. (Although we're in extremely subjective territory here, I know; I mean, if a critic today thinks Soderbergh's already one of the greats, is he or she necessarily wrong? I say wrong, but all I can offer in counterargument are my own opinions. How to define "one of the greats" anyway?)

This may shock you, though, Turn, but my favourite critic is Leonard Maltin. :)

I'm not crazy about Soderbergh either. I thought the first one was an okay remake of a decent movie, but really I have always thought of Soderbergh as overrrated.

I haven't seen Ocean's Twelve yet, but I'm not going to listen to Tarl_Cabot's statement because I think he complains too much, and he is inconsiderate of other people's opinions.

My friends saw this movie. They said it was awesome. Who should I listen to- some internet geek on a forum, or people I actually know??? :)

I think you're being a bit harsh there. A forum is a place where people can express their opinions and Tarl has given his. Why don't you respect that and after you've seen the movie give us your opinion.

Sorry, I just think Tarl is very highly expressing the bad side, which I find he does quite frequently.

And you're right. I'm just gonna go see the film.

Hey Ian,
I personally think that SPIDERMAN 2 was better than the first one and that HARRY POTTER 3 as better than the previous two. I also think that THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK is the best of the Star Wars movies and let's not forget that FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE was the follow-up to DR. NO.

The only true reason I have any desire to see this movie is to see one of my favorite comics, Eddie Izzard. I know that he has a very small role in it (a crime, if you ask me), and I was just curious to see if someone could fill me in on the details of his part, and how he was. Thanks!

Hmm, it wasn't really a follow-up, it's a Bond movie, and I consider all of them as seperate movies.

I know they're on the same subject, but the story's didn't continue onto the next one.

Good take my friend.

Cheers,

Ian

Again I'd say there ARE some very good follow-up's ( to which I listed only one ) but usually they're not as good as the original or the first one in a series.

I agree that From Russia With Love is better than Doctor No. :)

Evil Dead II was better than the original, and so was Father of The Bride II.

I'll retract my original post and say there are some very good remakes, but not all are as good. :)

Cheers,

Steven Spillberger :)

I though 'Traffic' sucked(an Oscar nod? are foooking kidding???) and 'Out of site' was ok but clearly a poor man's Tarantino film. :)
